In this After Effects Tutorial I'm gonna show you how to create a Cyberpunk 3D Hologram with native 3D objects.
3D Holograms that you find in movies like Blade Runner, Cyberpunk 2077, Akira or Ghost in the Shell.
BUT BEWARE! It's a very fast tutorial.
My intention is rather to show you the general concept & approach on how to deal with native 3D models in combination with effects.
Still, I hope that you still find some useful techniques you can apply in your After Effects projects.
Enjoy watching!

WOW, this is AMAZING! And the way you use the tools, finding so good short-cuts, work-arounds and use the tools/effects in a different way... It feels like watching new videos Andrew Kramer. You are on the same level in my opinion. Please continue this way, I learn more, more and more 🙂

Michael, you gave me the same vibe with the legend Sir Andrew Krammer that I always get lost and overwhelmed in the middle of the tutorial by the amount of knowledge and almost fainted at the end by keeping promise "this is the last one". but this is a treasure for me. I'll definitely watch it several times to follow each step. thank so much.

Amazing video again!!! The only great content of this subject I've found so far. Now a newbie question... It seems to me that to get some 3D stuff from after effects, you have to do a lot of improvisation to get around the limitations... Would you think that was more easy to do that in other software? Like directing in Cinema 4D, or even with other compositing software that is already 3D ready, like Fusion from blackmagic?

"... and that's it, guys" 😂 lol duuude, you just fried my brain in less than 15 minutes. coming from 2d, I guess ill have to rewatch that clip a couple of times, but it feels pretty useful already. gotta take some of those ideas for my next project. thanks

Sorry, I admit it’s really fast 😂. It’s more of an advanced thing showing what’s possible with 3D, giving general ideas than step-by-step instructions. But thank you that you still find it useful 😊

@@MichaelPonch lol no worries, I take those thought provoking tutorials over step by step instructions every day 🤓 I am just not that fluent in 3d spaces, thus figuring out what is happening on the screen, and - more importantly - WHY it is happening does not compute, at least not in real time 😂

@MichaelPonch This is brilliant stuff, I am amazed how you are solving many limitations of ae. How to work with 3d coordinates, while applying multiple 3d aware effects to a 2d layer. I want them to interact to each other. for eg: cc ball action, or any 3d aware effect for that matter. It seems you subtracted the half of your comp width and height. How did you come up with it? Can you explain the logic please? Been scratching my head for a long time for this?
@MichaelPonch
@MichaelPonch 9 күн бұрын
Thank you very much 😊. Usually I look at the position values, compare them, trial and error and try to see a math behind it. Thing is that they all have their own 3D space. Partly because third party developers (all the CC effects). But these issues were solved before me :). Just google it. Creative Cow is also a good place to find the answer. And ChatGPT can be helpful as well 😎

Wow! Please make a tutorial on how you created the glow text and neon line strip on the kitchen drawers in the intro
@MichaelPonch
@MichaelPonch Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll consider to make a tutorial. Actually it’s normal text with a glow effect and setting the blend mode to Add. But the background footage must be lit darker so the glow will be more visible. Happy New Year 😊

Michael, I am confused about how you open a new comp to animate the 3D object’s motion. Which is at 3:28.
@MichaelPonch
@MichaelPonch Жыл бұрын
I admit that was a bit too fast. So sorry for that 🙈. In my case it was simple rotation animation for the cup, position animation for the lid and scale animation for the splash. Just 2 keyframes for each 3D object. On top there was the camera animation coming from the camera tracker. Edit: it’s in the same main composition but I turned of the background. After animation I precomposed each 3D object as explained in my video

hello my point lights dont make the same looking colour as yours when shined on the model and when i do the 2 views option it doesn't show the model
@MichaelPonch
@MichaelPonch Жыл бұрын
Hi! I think I didn’t mentioned it in the video but I used another falloff type, like linear or inverse square. As for your 2nd issue. The model might be out of the borders. Check the draft 3d button, zoom back and you might see the model far out of your screen 😀

I have recently downloaded after effects beta but it seems like i am missing the Mercury 3D as a renderer option. Any thoughts on how to get it ?
@MichaelPonch
@MichaelPonch Жыл бұрын
I hope they didn’t change anything in the latest beta version. Have you tried to drag a 3D object into the composition? Normally a message pops up that says that it automatically changed to Mercury 3D.
@ThomasThemistokleous

@@MichaelPonch thanks for replying back ! There is no Mercury option at all…it does notify me to adjust my render preferences into Mercury but there is no such an option besides cinema 4D
