To be fair, this has nothing to do with David losing people, not much anyway. I'm not sure anyone realized, but David had a REALLY abusive mother, and I've had similar parents. She basically forced him to live the life SHE wanted, and guilt tripped him every time he wanted to live his own, crying and balling when he disobeyed, he couldn't even spam his leg for stress relief, she told him to stop it. She was basically putting him in a nightmare life to live through him so she could say she was in the Arasaka family, I mean think about it, what type of people REALLY wanna join Arasaka? That's exactly why he is the way he is, he's got psychological childhood trauma, of being guilt tripped into not doing what everyone else wants. Think about it, it's what lucy keeps saying to him, he needs to live his own dream, but he can't, he still keeps his mothers ashes, wears her jacket, hesitates to knock out the Arasaka guy even though hes clearly just wanting him to test the cyber-skeleton, it was so bad he was on the edge of betraying his whole crew and Lucy just to not let his mom down. At the end hes like "look mom, I'm at the top of Arasaka tower" It's so ingrained deep in him he does it with everyone, he carries on maines arms and "just keeps running" Endlessly upgrading because that's what maine wanted for himself, now carrying on his dream. And lastly, living for Lucy at the end, just to accomplish her dream. This all comes down to the emotional and psychological abuse of his mother, if she never constantly shamed him for basically not doing her will, none of this woulda happened, he'd have stopped upgrading FAR earlier, and noped out with Lucy LONG ago to live in some other safe location.

Just for Context there is a way to Cure Cyberpsychosis. Mike Pondsmith, the guy who created Cyberpunk has said that cyberpsychosis can be cured by love. It's Human connection that helps a person recover from it and love is the strongest form of connection. That is why David is this resistant, his Love for Lucy litteraly keeps him sane.

There’s some kind of beautifully twisted irony to David fulfilling the 3 wishes entrusted to him in the most skewed way possible: -His mom wanted him to get to the top of Arasaka Tower. Well, he got there, at least physically. -Maine wanted him to make it big, and man he definitely made a name for himself after this shit and his psychosis -He got Lucy to the moon just like he promised, after she decided she just wants to stay where she is and live a comfortable live with David as her partner. There’s probably more in that regard but these are the ones that stand out the most and let the show end on a pretty strong note

@Blackman Whitesuit they did have another chance at it. Get the game now. Cyberpunk literally was number one on steam charts for at least a month or two when this show released. The game is in a good state now though I think certain elements are lacking like for example Adam Smasher is still a little bitch in the game and cops represent zero threat at all The cyberpsycho quests make the game worth it all by themselves. There's moments of genuine terror to be had.

But it is not mediocre by any metric, maybe mediocre by CDPR's extremely high standards they set with Witcher 2 and 3 but still a very high quality game compared to the rest of AAA games in the industry with some memorable characters and a really good story with some flaws. They had to deal with a lot of technical problems and they really had to delay this game 2 more years tbh, as I think they were really struggling to optimize and creating the city itself took too much of the budget which made it difficult to polish rest of the stuff. It could have been so much more but a very good game nonetheless. The hype ruined it imo, if this came out without the overrated hype, the expectations would have been more reasonable for a Studio who is trying to get used to a city based cyberpunk RPG as opposed to a dark fantasy setting. Cyberpunk 2077 felt more like a Witcher 1/2 type situation where they are trying to get the feel of things. Expect a major improvement in the new expansion and the sequel. Also mediocre by what standards? Your expectations? The game still has some of the best world building, characters, world design, art design and open world level design in the entire industry. The game has serious issues and flaws, but it's far from mediocre and excells at many things. There are moments where you feel this is the best game ever and then you go this doesn't work, it's crap. It's somewhere in between mediocre and phenomenal. The game has some extremely well crafted and amazingly thought provoking side quests in gaming history, but there are some unbalanced elements in the rpg systems and gameplay. Also it has the best combat in action RPGs involving shooting. It's way better than anything Fallout, Deus Ex, Outer Worlds has ever done. Weird mix tbh. I really can't rate it accurately. There are both equal amounts of amazing stuff and bad stuff.

To my knowledge and maybe it's a theory, but Adam Smasher being full borg and not having Cyberpsychosis is due to the fact that you need to have emotions in order for your brain to fry. He was a mass murdering killer before he got the upgrades so he was almost born to be the best suited for them, until the Cyber God V comes along of course. His appearance is a little downplayed in the game, but the history with him is fantastic and I think they did a great job showing him here, kinda like hearing about how powerful Vader was in the OT but actually getting to see him do shit in Rogue One. Also some fun little extras, you can get David's Jacket in the game, you can get Lucy's apartment and meet Falco and, if you go to where Rebecca died in the show in the game, you can grab her shotgun Guts in a nearby bush.

The TV shows sorta distills that to only mean the violent psychos but not all Cyber Psychos are insane random killers. Adam is considered a high functioning Cyber Psycho. Fun Fact! The bar "Afterlife" in night city, where most of the hot shot mercs hang, names drinks after famous cyberpunks. One condition, you have to go out in a blaze of glory. At least 6 months before the release of Edgerunners, they added a drink called the "David Martinez" to Cyberpunk 2077 (the game) that you could buy in the Afterlife.

I agree with Rick's nitpick here. This show was already amazing as it is, but if i could have just one more episode, I wish they could've shown more of how Arasaka was a constant threat in the shadows, and how that pushed David to more cybernetics, and Lucy to become more distant, trying to kill anyone tracking them. It was the main tension point in their relationship, and it feels like things could've ended better for them if they just had one decent conversation. Obviously they're both extremely dysfunctional and incapable of healthy communication so i get it, but if Trigger could've shown how Arasaka was this super scary threat constantly hounding them and pushing them to extremes, it would be perfect.

I did say on an earlier part to buckle up as the end was brutal, as it often is for most in Night City, you don't get happy endings. Adam Smasher is not just Arasaka's thumping right fist but he's also the game's final boss. You have to play all the way through to get even with him. I always make sure I do as he's now owed not just for Johnny Silverhand but for David and Rebecca as well.

What I really love about Cyberpunk as a franchise is that it's a warning to the future. Much like Brave New World was when it came out, Cyberpunk warns of a future of corporate greed and advancement of technology past the point of no return. The World is horrific where you can't tell man from machine, where what it means to succeed is to be the bigger fish in the pond, Where life is divided into 2 camps of surving day to day living only to be forgotten or going out with a big bang and being remembered forever. Night City has no happy endings it is already the worst case scenario of a future. A future where the poor dispense their dead from vending machines, where technology carves away your humanity, and where corporations create weapons to fuel ongoing wars propogated by greed. This is why I encourage any and every person to play cyberpunk + Phantom Liberty it is a modern masterpiece of story telling and commentary.

I love this world and anime it is one of the most faithful adaptations I've ever seen. Nearly everything in this show is in the video game. The guns, mods/chrome, cars, locations, the music, UI, Hacks and certain characters you can see the show like Rogue and Wakako are in the game. And now when playing cyberpunk 2077 everytime "I wanna stay at your house" - By Rosa Walton comes on the radio i just sit in the vehicle feeling sad. Also yeah there are plenty of cool references to Edgerunners in the game now. Including the graves of the crew and the drink at Afterlife the David Martinez. If you make it big in NC and go out in a blaze of glory you get a drink named after you at the Afterlife club. It is the to my knowledge the second worst fictional world to live in. There is only 1 world worse than this and that is 40k.

after watching the show and really enjoying it, I agree with Rick that the time jump was abrupt and could have been rife for expansion. I feel like the show could have been better as a two season arc, of 8 or 10 episodes each, with Season 1 going from little David to the death of Maine, and then Season 2 being the aftermath of Maines death, Davids rise to lead the group, then finishing with these last events. I just want more of this show and the world. Would love a season 2 following another crew or group.

Sure the game still has many flaws and lot of the promises made by the company were never realized but.... The Game nowadays its completely functional and a total blast to get through. Even more so now that they included little Easter-Eggs from the show like obtaining David's Jacket, or hearing the song "I Really Want to Stay at Your House" in the Radio.

Fighting Atom Smasher in the game was a blast! Took alot of firepower and inhancements to beat him. I think I used almost all the ones I had. FUN!!!

can you look into the background noise that often pops up in the videos? like it's humming and humming, but sometimes shuts down. For example, you can hear it in the "david" segment here, and how it shuts down at 19.32. If it's just some dude with a drill outside on the street, then, whatever) But if it's some kind of PC cooler that just too close to the mic, it might be worth it to rearrange it. Just a thought.
