The game gave some clues to David and Rebecca's fates even before the anime went out, but the ending still really hit me hard. I cried lots lol. The David Martinez drink has been in the Afterlife bar in the game since it was released and everybody was wondering who the hell is that since you only get a drink named after you in the Afterlife if you died a legend, and I watched a lot of lore videos on Cyberpunk but there was no David Martinez, but now we know who he is, and damn he really did go out a legend. Rebecca's shotun "Guts", was added to the game as a dlc from a patch 1 week before the anime. And it can be found around the place where she died. Players can now also get David's yellow jacket through a side quest where you'll be in contact with Falco. So I really hope they add Lucy in the game someday, maybe through a side mission. Chibi is right, it would be a really missed opportunity if they don't add Lucy to the game.

On episode 6: My favorite frame wasn't, in fact, what was going on upstairs with Maine, Dorio, and David. It was the close-up of Lucy in the car with her head in her arm, covering most of her face except her cybernetic eyes - still fruitlessly trying to "call" David - quivering with fear while screams, gunshots, and explosions resounded in the floors above. She was so scared she was going to lose everyone and be the last one standing again, like what happened in the 'Saka hive (which, alas, turned out to be her fate regardless).

Spoilers: When David appeared on the moon with Lucy I cried even more. This was honestly a masterpiece for me, it had action, romance, stakes, tension and realistic characters and memories for the characters. It was literally the game in anime form. Becca and David’s relationship just felt real, she was in love with him, but knew he loved Lucy and still helped him reach the top of the tower. The characters actually talked to each other when they sensed one was down or going through Cyper pain. Like it was amazing for ten episodes. Honestly the only problem I had was the characters not talking and hanging out more, after episode 6 things went south with everyone. Overall highly recommend the anime. So many emotions I went through especially with the deaths of everyone involved.

I genuinely believe this is one of, if not the best, more mature aimed anime in the last 10 years. The topics it touches are easily translated to modern equivalents to make it relatable and at the same time, a thrilling romance tragedy. I've also never seen anime handle casual nudity in such an adult way, practically ignored in most scenes that it's involved in. This and the genuine romance that grows throughout the show in a way no silly fan-service filled harem "romance" ever could. The industry needs to make a conscious shift to start churning out more content like this for the now adults that started watching as young teens in the 90s. TLDR: 10/10 masterpiece that the entire industry needs to take notes on. bravo to trigger, best work yet.

If you watch in English the character's words match perfectly with the on-screen text on phone calls and stuff. This show was primarily meant to be viewed in English for the game's audience. Ironically it seems like it was translated from English to Japanese, and if you turn on the non-CC subs on Netflix with the English dub it's like you're reading translation from Jargon into "normal" english. Also, the sub issue might just be the specific Netflix app you're using. It was fine for me.

David, for me, is the anti-Legend of Cyberpunk. The core aspect of being a cyberpunk in this world, is to gain back freedom that was taken away from you, to do away with rules meant to restrict inferior people, and it's kind of the edgerunner's motto. Cyberpunk's society is incredibly individualistic, and the outlaws are even more selfish than that, they'll trample anything to achieve their glory, and chase their dreams, that's how you become a legend in night city. Now David's the entire opposite of that, he never once acted for his own dreams. In their first encounter, Lucy points that out. That's why she thinks he'll make a bad cyberpunk and that's also why she thinks he's too good for them. He's the only one who doesn't follow a selfish dream. First he follows his mom's dream of climbing up the corpo ladder, despite his unwillingness. Then he follows Maine's crew and motto, inheriting his will to make it big and immortalize himself as a legend. Last, he grants Lucy's dream at the cost of his own life. It's also interesting to point out that in the end, he does grant everyone's wishes, but not before twisting them and corrupting them. He does "climb up" arasaka's ladder, he does make it to the top of the tower, leaving bodies in his trail. He does become a legend worth remembering, at the cost of his life and everything else, like Maine tried to. He does send Lucy on the moon, without realizing her true wish all along was just too keep him by her side, alive and well. He's a failure in that sense, and that cements him as an incredible tragic hero, dying, wronging everyone trying to make it better. It's also likely that because of Maine's will, he intentionally disregarded his life and engaged in self-destructive behavior, like his numerous augments and the riskiness of his job, even though he had every opportunity to run away with Lucy and live happily.

It moves at such a fast pace and the characters are so well and efficiently written and designed that I didn't even realize how much I had come to care for pretty much all of them until David said goodbye to Lucy and that just demolished the floodgates and all the emotions from the entire series overwhelmed me. It's been like 5 days and I'm finally coming out of the mini depression this show caused me, I genuinely cannot remember the last time a show did that to me. And in such a short run time. I’m watching tons of anime currently and have watched tons of anime just like everyone else and this is easily one of my favorites and it only has one season(so far👀) ending broke my heart and even though I knew the outcome considering David’s drink in the game but cd projekt red made a beautiful story and studio trigger gave stunning animation but I honestly expected nothing less from them and they made adam smasher a literal killing machine man’s the biggest menace yet

Adam is not like that in the game??

Just finished the series yesterday and still trying to recover from it ! What a massive slap in the face ! Both visually but also emotionally ! Not only it is an absolute masterclass of anime in regard of art direction, characters, atmosphere, music and pacing, but I think we can all agree it completely takes the cake with Arcane as the best animated adaptation of a videogame, ever. The bar has been set reeeally high with these 2. I haven't played the game and don't plan to (I hate fps with a passion, regardless of the quality of the game), but I'm hanging around to listen to all the angry mob going back to this glitchy game to stick it to Adam Smasher one more time after they've been emotionally wrecked by seeing what he did to David and Rebecca. Great breakdown, Chibi. I appreciate your take on it.

It's actually Phenomenal that this anime is such a masterpiece in only 10 episodes!! Most animes have multiple seasons and dramatic plots just to make you have a fraction of what Cyberpunk Edgerunners does in such a short time.

Even if it isn’t anime of the year,ep6 is one of if not the best episode of the year, and that’s counting the 3 AoT paths episodes, the last ep of Kimetsu No Yaiba,Boji vs Bosse and Made in Abyss ep10,let’s see what Mob Psycho and Chainsaw Man will bring us. Honestly this show was on the line of perfection, only missing one or two extra episodes to flesh out some characters and the main couple and it would be perfect. But the fact that even with those details I still connected so much to these characters shows the quality of the writing. Now,if you excuse me,I’ll keep jamming to I Really Want To Stay At Your House because my post-anime depression is still yet to go away.

5:25 you really interesting and impressive part on the anime is that the team goes out of their way to make sure 90% of the location be it skyline views or a simple hallway are all actually in the game. For example David’s rippledoc’s shop is actually note for note identical to the one in n western Santo Domingo just a few blocks from David and his mothers home in mega building h4. Another cool one is the run Lucy and David train on and is nearly identical from the debris placement to the skyline. But still my favorite is you can visits Rebecca’s apartment in one of the side gigs during the game. Long story short with enough time and patience damn near every shot in the show has a location in game

A lot of the reason it hit so hard for me is bc we rarely get well-made tragedy these days, esp in more mainstream media. The ending is sad, for sure, but it's cathartic. It's a safe sorrow the way that horror movies are a safe terror. Too often stories go for tragedy and end up in motiveless grimdark and it's exhausting. I once heard a lecture where someone said that the great appeal of tragedy is to see terrible things happen to people you're supposed to empathize with and see yourself in, and that the catharsis comes from seeing someone's life go horribly wrong and still have the author hold your hand and tell you 'this story mattered. even though it had a sad ending it still mattered. even if you don't succeed your attempts matter.' Grimdark tells you that the world sucks and nothing you do matters, well-written tragedy tells you that sometimes the world sucks but everything you do matters so so much, your story is still worth telling even if you never achieve that happy ending or if you lose it along the way. People have inherent value and their stories deserve to be told no matter if they turn out okay or not and in a reality that has no concept of 'fair' that shit just hits good man!!! feels good!!!!! it's COMFORTING (

I concur with the subtitle problem on Netflix’s end. I had a hard time reading Gurren Lagann’s subs with the dialogue being overlapped. It’s probably an issue for other streaming platforms as well.
@damontcs2 жыл бұрын
Glad you mentioned the subtitles. I always prefer having subtitles, even when watching english-language content, and I did that this time as well. The subs for the anime are straight up horrendous. Many things were just straight wrong, and I noticed quite a few times where they just put instead of what was actually being said - even though it wasn't hard to hear at all. The actual anime though, holy crap it was so good.

Just a cool thing I want to mention about 18:40 - The reason why their conversations over the phone sounds as if they were google translated (in the way that they repeat words or say stuff that doesn't sound like something someone would actually say). As a usual phone call goes, you think and structure your sentence before saying it into the mic so that form of communication has in a way an extra filter. From what I understand in the CBP Universe it's literally your brain's thought being streamed in real time directly into the call. Depending on the circumstances of the call, in high pressure situations, with your brain going into overdrive their sentences are structured more erratic while in a normal situation it's similar to a verbal conversation. I thought it was a super cool attention to detail decision to help add into the world building of the CBP Universe. =)

Ran into a similar issue with the subtitles when i was watching the live action series King's Avatar(highly suggest, decided to watch after watching the anime few years back) where the white subtitles would blend into the background making it hard to read. Had to first google if theres a workaround which there was by going into the settings to change the colors. Main problem is it can't adjusted via the damn app but only through the website and the change doesn't update right away. Since it allowed drop shadows i did a green shadow to the white text which helped a bit but kinda work with how color vibrant Cyberpunk was. I liked the concept of subtitle text to the side of screen when they were doing calls but that should have a 2nd copy on bottom of screen since sometimes a call text would switch to subtitles which kinda made the call text feel redundant.

It was to get revenge on Adam Smasher for killing Best Girl Rebbecca and also Dave...

Bruh, forget the glitches. EVERY character that's come out of the Cyberpunk universe so far has been phenomenal. I managed to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 despite the glitches (I played on PS4 btw) because the characters were so good and the lore was so immersive. Edgerunners took everything Cyberpunk had to offer and fucking ran with it. Insanely well done, from the voice acting, the writing, the animation, the soundtrack, and even integrating actual features from the game. Which is another super cool thing they brought in. Most of the locations, weapons, characters, slang and terminology, are all things that have existed in the game since launch. Just top tier all around.
