My friend of 10 years quit nursing to retrain as a game dev after swine flu put him in a hospital bed for 2 weeks and ran up 100k in bills lol. I don't wanna say he lost his passion but he is definitely career focused he's taken less than glamorous jobs just to get his foot in the door. He needs a certain amount of creative freedom so getting a management position was important for him. Halo was always his passion, now he does level design but has more of an interest in graphic art design. He still plays games but in very short spurts because he has a daughter and work keeps him busy. Leaves a VERY short window for just casual gaming. He's a multitasker and when he's doing homework so to speak he likes to have something running on a second screen, when Cyberpunk came out he actually had me stream my game for him to watch while he worked from home lol.

I was one of the unlucky ones that got a preorder of the PS4 version, but I still saw the gold hidden within the rubble, a few months later I downloaded it on PC(pirated it tbh since I already had bought it) and had one of the best experiences I've had in gaming, I still reminisce about listening to the Nomads play guitar at a campfire as we prepared for a train robbery, or helping any number of the characters with their side quests, in my opinion it is not only one of the best WRPGs ever made but also one of the best cyberpunk stories ever told, I can't wait to get a Series X to buy it and replay it again before going through the Phantom Liberty expansion.

Im impressed and grateful that Hook was mentioned. All-time favorite movie. Had it recorded on VHS-my grandmother used to just record movies on TV as opposed to buying them so I still get confused watching it as an adult when I’m expecting a cut to commercial. I got the opportunity to see Robin Williams when I worked at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek Resort the year before he passed, and it’s probably one of my favorite memories. Funny enough, if I had actually worked that night, I would have met him in the Green room.

@@Secret_Takodachi To be fair, I think the only important things that Cyberpunk is missing now are more consequences to choices, (PL seems to be good though) and just more overall interactivity with the city itself. There's just nothing to do in Night City apart from those arcade minigames that get old quickly. To trigger police, you must go around shooting people for no reason. Why can't I do something simple like robbing a shop or having some sort of actual deep minigame like Gwent? The airdrops are cool but are only restricted to Dogtown. I think Gabe just doesn't want to get involved with CDPR's past decisions and just does what he can with the cards he has now.

Mostly just lore from the 2077 books, but I hope they can continue to stay true Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk specifically going forward. They’ve done an incredible job so far I think. I’m not worried. It certainly was a dodge don't get me wrong, but he literally was referencing that they went to the trailers, implementing stuff shown there (Like shooting out of the caliburn) in order to help it to more resemble what was promised. @@LiterallyStuart Well, now that he's the Director for the sequel, he can't answer that because it's a liability to the company. I hate it, but I get it...But fuck do I hate it. I wish they'd just be honest "Yeah, launch was a fucking disaster and we've been trying to earn back that trust you all put in us since The Witcher". But no, they say "things happened" and pretend that they didn't have outright fraudulent conversations with investors, withheld the truth about the state of it on current gen (at the time) and my person favourite, knew about the game-breaking bugs before launch and kept them under wraps. Publishers take the blame, as they should, but higher-ups in CDPR management 100% should be worshipping the ground we walk for the sales numbers they've since gotten from us.

Gabe seems great, but he's still got big Director energy. And by that I mean Ralph asked him a very straight-laced question about whether or not the team felt they had now delivered on the Promise of what Cyberpunk was going to be, and he absolutely dodged the question to instead plug the update's features. When he says "Trailers aren't promises", sure, that's not untrue, but a game like Cyberpunk was in a very precarious position of being a game that was making a lot of claims about what kind of world it'd be and a lot of that never got seen by the players, it was more tell, don't show. In a way, Cyberpunk 2077 is a match for the setting of a Cyberpunk world, but it's not a match for the creative vision that birthed it. If I was them, I'd get to work on tempering expectations, and smashing others when it comes to developing the sequel. Have a clear idea of what is simply not doable, and work within the framework of what is, that way the team can deliver more of that fantasy Gabe seems so passionate about. If they deliver anything less than "more to do, more to see, more ways to play and more narrative paths" Cyberpunk 2 will not succeed.

I wonder if you'd ever have James Stephanie Sterling or Yahtzee as guests? Arlo has already been suggested by Jirard, so that makes me happy.

The gamespot guys really do be killing all the vibes. The energy they give off is almost analogous to corporate social media accounts using memes. I feel like Ralph only has them on because of their connections with other PR guys that allow him to interview so many game devs pretty much in every podcast episode. This is just my theory because he did not do that many interviews with so many key game devs, and the only time he did was when he had to fly himself to their offices, which I can imagine is both expensive and time-consuming to be doing TWICE a month (which is how often these occur in this podcast), even once a month sounds like a lot to commit towards.

The fact that this is the first time a studio has really nailed From's formula, after all these years, says something about Lies of P. It is so fun and atmospheric.

Seeing his passion and geeking out about the DLC, while also trying to not spoil it because he wants players to experience the moments themselves, has absolutely convinced me to get the DLC and give the game another full playthrough.

Would’ve been cool to ask Gabe if he has any insight on CDPR switching to Unreal. specifically, “does the team have to rebuild the entire world from scratch in Unreal for the sequel? Is that stressful considering they only ironed out all the bugs relatively recently”

It is way, wayyyyy easier to hire for unreal than a proprietary. They also integrate faster. Staffing was a huge issue on CP2077
