There's a few other errors as well; first off, when Johnny talks about the friend that sacrificed himself for him, he was referring to the owner of the dogtags, meaning Robert John Linder, who "gave up his life" so Johnny Silverhand would live. An interesting detail (error?) in that is that the blood type on Robert's dogtags are different than the blood type listed in the ripper clinic that Johnny wakes up in after the 'saka ambush where Alt was taken. Secondly, Arasaka never used Soulkiller on Alt, it was Johnny that killed her, according to Alt herself, who claim Johnny's flashbacks have no relation to the truth. In the lore, Alt had already done a number on Arasaka when Johnny arrived, having stolen 20 million eddies, taken over the building's defenses and turned it on Arasaka, and killed their Netrunners trying to stop her, by the time Johnny arrived she was basically 8ug8ear in that Gig, screaming in cyberspace to not disconnect her, which he did unknowingly, severing her connection to her digital ghost and killing her body. If Johnny had just stayed the fuck out of it, odds are she would have gotten away on her own at that point. Additionally, Yorinobu stole the Relic not to confront Saburo directly, but to sell it to Netwatch (though exactly what Netwatch was offering him was never clear). If you take down the Netwatch agent in the GIM and get hit by the Voodoo wammy, you can read on his laptop a fractured message from Evelyn, talking about Netwatch specifically wanting Johnny's engram, not the Relic in general (likely for the same reason the VDBs want it, for baiting Alt), which seems a bit of a weird stretch for him to go along with just to provoke his father, and potentially piss off Netwatch if he didn't follow through. Yorinobu's purpose was always to go against Arasaka and destroy it, to "become bomb" as he puts it in the Devil ending. Saburo meanwhile needs the Relic itself for his own reasons, again as seen in the Devil/Arasaka ending, Johnny's engram is unimportant to him, and was just a means of transportation from Mikoshi.

A fun hint that Johnny's memories are being coloured by his ego is his gun - in his memories it's a one hit monster, but once you get it, while its a good gun... it's not the same.

I had previously viewed the 3516 once V got it as one of Johnny’s older models. Mike Pondsmith has stated in the past that the latest variant was chambered in an equivalent of .577 Nitro Express which is possibly the one Johnny used in the Arasaka raid. That being said, the idea of Johnny’s ego making it out to be much stronger than it really would be is a lot more amusing thematically speaking so I’m sticking with that from now on lmao

In the scene where Johnny shoots Toshiro, he is holding the Malorian in his meat-hand, even though lorewise the gun is supposed to be so powerful it requires a cyberarm to use without breaking your wrist. These "mistakes" (like Johnny's memories of fighting Smasher on the rooftop) might be indications of Morgan Blackhand's memories being spliced into Johnny's engram. I don't think the changes and discrepancies are entirely ego-driven, since engrams aren't like flesh memories. They are simply digitized copies of memories. When Johnny was Soulkilled, the program would have only copied his memories AS THEY WERE at the time of his death. In my opinion, something else is happening here, and if you follow the tabletop lore, you'll see a lot of Morgan's personality and other traits in 2077 Johnny. For example, in all the ttrpg artwork, Silverhand is clean-shaven, while Blackhand has stubble/beard. Yet in the video game, Johnny "remembers" himself with a beard. That could just be another Blackhand-intrusion upon Johnny's spliced engram, just like him using his right hand (the hand Morgan had chromed) to shoot the Malorian.

Alt specifically states that Silverhand's memories are not accurate. The documentation on the Relic you get from Helman also implies that no Engram is ever a perfect copy of the original person. Spider made an Engram of a dying egomaniac. So it's easy to imagine that his Engram had several memory gaps that were filled in based on Johnny's personality.

It is shown in the game, it glitches out when he originally passed alway, but someone, somehow edited so he thinks he escaped, truth is, he didn't, probably Arasaka messed up with the memories to extract information.

This story may be even deeper. The Night Corp and rogue AI's, Alt being a literal noone knows what, some weird things behind the Black Wall, very sus bartender in konpeki plaza. It is all connected, but we miss the pieces of the puzzle. It all may be a prelude to something realy big. Or not. But it is more fun that way, imo.

Honestly I like to believe that both events on how Johnny died are somewhat canon on what happened, since the first one was his interpretation of the events in his point of view, while the rest was other information that Johnny left out in the memory. His memories were edited, you can see a glitch just after he passed alway in the official version, then somehow he magically scape from smasher running up the stairs and somehow smasher magically appears on top of the building, that was pretty much a false memory implanted so he could be torture by Arasaka and used as a lure for Alt, he was soulkilled when Murphy hits him with the chip, also there is a line in which Greyson said just how, Arasaka indeed retrieved the chip from Murphy's case an that's how they have it an why it doesn't work so well.

A couple corrections: -Johnny didn't "start" the Rockerboy movement. That credit goes to Rockerboy Manson, the guy the movement is literally named after. Samurai were merely a very popular Chromer band. -Aldacaldo is not Santiago's name, it's the Nomad tribe he belonged to. His name is actually Trace Santiago.

Jackie didn't have the relic in him for more than a few minutes. Wouldn't have been enough time to do anything. Also, since it would be in Jackie's head and not V's, who's to say that Johnny wasn't trying to make himself known, but Jackie was too occupied with escaping and dying to notice or mention it.

The Relic originally existed to communicate with an engram stored on it. Due to V getting a bullet to their brain it started malfunctioning and taking over their brain. Only if Jackie didn't remove the Relic upon his death it would do the same

When Johnny shows you the dog tags, they are Robert Linders. So when he says that the guy had to die so that Johnny could live, i took that to mean that Linders died so that Silverhand could be 'born' also seems to make sense with what lore I've read regarding Johnny deserting. And its also a popular literary trope.

I always found it weird that Johnny mentions that the dog tags were his friend's, while they're actually his. now it makes perfect sense! Robert Linders, the soldier, who we can assume was at least an idealist and thought being in the army was a good idea, had ''died'' after finding out the true nature of corporations and how closely they're tied to (if not controlling) the military and politics, so he had begun his crusade as Johnny Silverhand. thanks for your comment, man! giving the dog tags to V IMO means that he still has some semblance to his past idealism, and wants V to hold unto it and never change for the ''worst''.

I think Johnny died inside Arasaka tower his last true memories were the moment he got shot by Adam Smasher in the office but the one who got shot in the arm and got captured might be that of Morgan Blackhand's memories. Mr blue eyes could be Morgan taking over some dead body because in game file they label Mr blue eyes hair as Morgan's hairstyles. Or.... Morgan died but a Powerful rogue AI took over his body. Either way, Johnny's memories aren't 100% trustworthy and the status of Morgan is still a mystery. DLC might explore that aspect...

As an anarchist myself, Silverhand has to be one of my favourite portrayals of anarchists in media. Too often they are presented as overly naive and well intentioned hippies, and even more often as mindless terrorists who just want chaos for the sake of it. Johnny is a lot more believable, an inperfect individual who both cares (maybe even too much) about the injustice around him, while also being quite egocentric and wanting to play hero. He wanted to make the world better while also making himself feel better, and he tried doing so by pacificic means such as protest, performance and music, until he was so desperate and depressed he became openly violent. He is not romanticized, but he isn't demonized either.

I personaly think it might be imposible to achirve, but wanting to achieve it and trying to make our world a bit more democratic and fair is a very possitive thing even if we never reach the utopia. In the mission ‘Chippin in’, Grayson tells you that Johnny died “covered in his own piss, brain scorched by soulkiller….” So he probably didn’t get one shotted by Smasher.

Grayson was not there, no way he knew anything The official story is that Johnny was cut in half by one shot from Smasher and in his last minutes of brain activity Spider Murphy soulkilled him This version seems to be true as many years later, by 2045, some mercs discovered Johnny's corpse and he looked exactly like I described above

You are 100% correct. Every story about past events will always be distorted by the beliefs, interpretations, level of understanding and motivation of the person telling the story. The colective interpretation of these stories by a nation state creates something that tells a glorified version of history. The more a story about a brave person who has done something extraordinary and for this has gained respect and admiration is retold the more the story becomes a legend. This is what happened with Johny he became a legend a person larger then life. Everyone retold his story and many people aded their spin on it. The events presented to us are an idealised „legendary version” of Johny Silverhand.

While the theory that Johnny’s memories are fabricated may be plausible, I still believe that they are actually true. It’s clear that the in game universe diverts from the original board game story somewhat. I’d also like to point out that every character you meet in 2077 recognises that Silverhand was responsible for the bombing of Arasaka tower, whilst never mentioning Morgan Blackhand. It seems CDPR are yet to even touch Blackhand, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw him in the next game.

Johnny is a really interesting depiction of how everything, including resistance, gets commodified under this dystopic capitalist future. His resistance to capital is completely controlled by the corps he's fighting against. The inaccurate depiction of events we see on his flash backs in 2077 are an idealized version of events, as if Johnny cant be honest with himself and doesn't realize his "revolution" was completely coopted by the corps. He's a bit of a poser, he sells himself as a revolutionary all while being a pawn in the fight between arasaka and millitech like most mercs. Something that is completely left out of his idealized version of events we see in 2077.

[*spoilers*] I have a contrary opinion. Saburo says that the dead never lie, what's more we know Johnny reasonably has the skills to do what he said he did. Being the world of corpo lies and deceit I feel that the version where it was all blackhand is actually the lie since militech nor arasaka would like to admit a rockerboy stole the show as it were. After all in the end where you let Johnny control V he solos arasaka tower. Johnny is no saint, and he deserves the majority of bad opinions levied at him, however it doesn't change the fact that even when he was trying to find alt and soulkiller with the virus rogue only thought he was after fame trying to upload some bs. So maybe a lot of his good intentions and moments get outshined by, "oh, Johnny would never do that."
