I owned this toy as a kid, left it out on my mom’s driveway, then came back to it… many years later. Toy: totally intact. They built it to last. It’s now a prized part of my resurrected transformers collection.

@@mariodude345 they were supposed to go in the garbage, as I'd thrown out my collection when I left the franchise as a teen. But somehow, those toys just sat there all that time. Dark Scorponok wasn't perfect (the joints on the Scorpion head are kinda loose and the robot mode visor is gone) but otherwise, it's in great shape. That portion of the driveway has an awning, so they were *partially* shielded from weather, but not by a lot. I have a couple other figures that were a part of my collection as a kid, but the Dark Scorponok is in the best condition of the survivors.

I own the energon scorponok and it's one of my favourite figures and I have to say, those shoulder hinges are the hardest joints I have ever seen, I have this figure since I was 7ish... And I got hurt every single time I transformed it, but I still love him

i always wanted this figure because of the Mega Zarak homage which is a way cooler color scheme than this toys original color scheme and the G1 colors which were just super garish. Little rant concluded, great review TJ.

I owned him and love him, only Unfortunate is that the one arm's hinge at the shoulder got damaged, but it still works! My uncle even put a pair of those locking tie band things on the arms and they looked cool

Energon Scorponok is one of my favorites out of the line. Sadly, those hinges on the chest busted a while ago; it's a known issue and there are replacement kits out there so thank you for reminding me about it!

Actually if you just swap the hinges with one another it fixes the problem there are tutorials online for that

for those who don't know black zarak is a character from transformers super god master force basically he was scorponok minus the head master gimmick and with a new head and was later possessed by the series main villain devil z

That "vehicle mode" you started off on is his Scorpion Mode, the JET mode (being a triple-changer, Beast, Vehicle, Robot) is his proper Vehicle Mode for the mold (both in Energon and the Cybertron remold).

Not exactly something you forgot, but an interesting tidbit is that this toy was (apparently) originally going to have a battle-station mode, that you can still approximate on the final toy (with the exception of the cannons in his shoulders)

i had the energon version it was special for me it was the first present i had ever gotten from my father because he and my mom were divorced when i was two. you have the jet turbines backwards in jet mode or at least thats how the instructions say they go

Is the gold square button (the one that sticks out a little further) supposed to make a noise? I found one of these at a thrift store. I want to sell it on eBay but I want to make sure all of the sounds work first. I put batteries in it and the other gold button works for sound. The transforming sounds also works when you move the tail. The square gold button does not do anything though. I'm not sure if it is broken or if I'm just missing something..

Vector Prime and the Gigantion bots have a combination of Mini-Con ports and Cyber Key slots, but only Dark Scorponok has both of those AND the Energon Star spark crystal gimmick...

Speaking from experience, he's not kidding about how tight those shoulder joints are. My Energon Scorponok is still tight, and that was one of my most played with toys as a kid!

Hey man can you help me? I have a slight issue. The screw in his right arm where it attaches to the shoulder has become loose from lack of play and I cannot tighten the screw. Any tips? Edit: It broke when my uncle tried to fix it but he got it to still work normally

Did Takara ever do a different colored version of this fig? My Dark Scorponok has a bunch of minor color variations, mostly that make him look more like Black Zarak, especially his head, which has a gold face and a red helmet.

I always kept my Energon Scorponok's shoulder parts in the position for jet mode. It allowed for better shoulder movement, so he could actually point his arms forward.

TJ, are you still going to be reviewing the Kamen Rider Gaim toys. Were you able to get the Ryugen Faceplate you had a problem with and or were you able to fix your Sonic Arrow. If not, assuming you didn't want to review them because as you said you wanted to review it as a full set, and if one was broken or missing it wouldn't be as good, mind you I'm paraphrasing. But please let me know been waiting anxiously for that review.

He's one of my favorite Transformers in my collection and I'm genuinely curious they'll remake him. If they do, I'll wait until they do a Black Zarak paint job

Hey TJ, I gaff that figure and found that leaving the shoulder block things in the jet mode configuration gives you more... natural, I suppose, shoulder articulation, though you lose the forward elbow and arm swivel

I really really wish someone on shapeways or whatever would release an upgrade kit for this guy's arms. I absolutely love my energon scorponok but it needs better articulation and maybe a headmaster. No way am I paying for the exclusive one though.

I had both versions of this toy, the energon mold and this cybertron remold, and they were some of my favorites. For one, I love triplechangers, and he was one of very few I had, and the gimmicks while kinda silly never really got in the way of play, and the whole scorpion construction thing I kinda liked actually, only problems I had were the lack of tread pegging and the lack of hook in the dark version you mentioned which were both very frustrating...

Around this time hasbro stopped using the old gold plastic composition. The new version is usually a lot sturdier; The problem is that every single joint on this guy is way harder than it's feasible, so it's vulnerable to standard pressure breackage, but still nowere near more known patients

I lucked out and got this guy for 4 bucks at a savers was missing the extras but the figure as a whole was in great shape. I was afraid to transformers him because the joints were so tight lol. So now he sits in scorpion mode besides my wfc Black Zarak

I like that hasbro tried to homage black zarak with this verion of the figure but i must say that i like the color schemes on double punch and botcon 2014 scorponok a lot better, i guess its the crazy colors and being a 90's kid (though yes i know g1 scorponok is 87 but still colors are crazyplus having the headmaster on the 2014 retool

Is gold plastic syndrome still a thing with 2000 to present toys?

Only in a few figures. Universe Snarl and Repugnus are both known GPS toys, Energon Scorponok and Cybertron Dark Scorponok both suffered a form of it, and Beast Wars 10th Dinobot has two different plastics that have GPS. Generally Hasbro is more aware of it now and avoids colors and practices that causes it.
