35:54 I noticed the Hatterene did not get its Special Attack lowered by Snarl, which means it is actually Covert Cloak. This explains why its Dazzling Gleam hit Dachsbun so hard.

Getting random crits is the equivalent of being in a fight with someone and a random person trips the other guy, doesn’t feel great to win on that. Better to not rely on RNG like that and to think what you could have done in a level playing field.

As someone with aspirations to try and rise to this level and beat them on a prominent stage, hearing him rattle off info like that off the cuff was terrifying. That is a level of knowledge surpassing most sports broadcasters who get paid by big media corps to do essentially the same job. I'm not sure how to win against people with that level of knowledge without spending a similar amount of time learning. Truly impressive.

@@zernst2798 Megas are the worst mechanic competitive wise, maybe only better than z-moves by a marginal amount. It got no drawbacks, basically a huge stat boost not conditioned to the battle situation. Both dynamax and terastalize must be used wisely or it can backfire, a stat drop on a dynamaxed pokemon can just lose you the game for example, and terastalize is very flexible because you can basically do it with any pokemon in your team. Mega's are the coolest, of course, but glad they are out, made the meta really niche due to very few pokemon that could do it.

Dachsbun really does feel solid in this Meta, where there's a TON of Armarouge, Torkoal, and Arcanine. There's just a lot of common fire going around, and Dachsbun can be a sweet switch in to catch fire attacks and get bulky fast. He also can learn Yawn! I've found Yawn on Dachsbun to be super handy in a lot of clutch situations. Switching in a Dachsbun to eat a fire move, getting +2 Defense, then immediately Yawning at their biggest threat feels super good to pull off. Feels like he pairs great with Scizor, since a lot of people want to click Fire moves at the Deadly Iron Bug himself. I've also picked off some of the big dragon types roaming around thanks to Play Rough access (Even with a fully bulky set you're looking at 44-50% against a No-Bulk offensive Garchomp, which Dachsbun is great at walling) and he just all around feels way more potent than it seems like he should be. I've been running Body Press/Play Rough/Yawn/Helping Hand and putting him in a sun team with Lilligant/Torkoal/Scovillain in my test teams on Showdown (Still working out my last slots before I get a properly bred team for in-game) and the man puts up some solid work. As you saw, he can struggle against specially offensive teams that don't have lots of Fire moves to eat up, and Gholdengo feels pretty spooky to see on the opposing team, but pairing up with allied fire users can help mitigate that. (Sun-Boosted Scovillain Flamethrower kinda deletes Gholdengo super hard, and Dachsbun can 100% eat a ground or water move launched at Torkoal if they go for an attack against a Torkoal/Scovillain lead for a good switch and a dead Gholdengo. Really hope you check out the Habanero Hydra soon!)

If the Johto beasts count as dogs, then suicune, but if we're only going with definitely dogs then stoutland. I won a VGC draft league with him! He's so good. Also I just want to mention that I do prefer when you spend 2 episodes with a team before switching. It's easier to learn how to play a team when I can see more games of you playing with it :) but I understand there are so many teams and new pokemon you want to try early in the meta!

i was using something similar earlier this week, but tera ice dach because fire can't harm it, rock and steel get countered by body press, and fighting gets countered by armarogue. Did quite well, but i didn't feel it worked consistently enough. Glad to see others have noticed the synergy possibility there

I’m pretty sure Dachsbun’s pronunciation is meant to be similar to the dog breed it’s based on - the dachshund, often known as the “wiener dog,” “badger dog,” or “sausage dog,” and pronounced like “daak-snd” / “doxend” (at least in American pronunciation).
