These things have 2 or 3 electric motors. You get all the torque at 0 rpms. Trains are really a diesel generator powering electric motors. Also, the tri motor cyber beast is crazy powerful, 845hp and gobs of wheel torque.

A stock kia sorento can do this. Literally. Kia engineers did. The only modification that was done was sway disconnect, A/T tires (they come with all seasons from the factory for the soccer moms), and a skid plate (to protect the oil pan). I would be very worried if it couldn't make it up since it essentially has lockers on demand on the front and rear.

I think it's great that Tesla ran Hell's Gate and you are correct, many have run Hell's Gate with many different types of vehicles and a experienced off-roader that is familiar with this trail can easily tackle it in a basic stock 4X4 with street tires.

Now if you could fix the steering failures, give it mechanical backup steering, make it look like the prototype again, beef up the paper thin upper control arms, give it good looking rims again, and make stainless steel that doesn't rust or at least wash it before you deliver it, and drop the price to at least reasonably near the reservation price, that would be great. Oh yeah, and actually test them before you launch them and deliver them with features that are done and you can actually turn on. I'm sure I missed a few things.

@CaliMeatWagon yes it dose... 2wd and 4wd differentials will have physical, selectable, in differential lockers in their drive axles. The CyberBeast will have the same selectable front but will have a software defined rear since it has one motor per rear tire. Currently the lock option is grayed out and 'coming soon' in customer trucks.

It's going to take a couple of decades to build enough EVs for everyone. If you want to wait at the back of the queue and let other people go first that's no problem at all. By the time you have to switch all the kinks will be ironed out and range and charging will be much improved. Just look how far things have come in the last 14 years!

Pretty sure I saw this exact truck in town in St. George, Utah last weekend. He was parked outside of the dollar store and it was gathering a crowd of people looking at it. He was on his way to Moab to film this.
