Finally someone addresses tire pressure. All those videos criticizing the off-road capabilities of any EV truck need to acknowledge the tires have higher psi ratings for efficiency on the road. Off-road generally goes better if you release pressure from the tires so they are able to compliantly spread load over irregular terrain.

But they fail at actually addressing pressures. They are still running at 37+ psi, which is more than most ICE vehicles. With my jeep with traditional wheels (non beedlocks) I would air down to 16 or so for most offroading. 37 psi is still street pressures.

Cool to see stock versions of each truck go off-road. The overland version (with a tent on a rack) of the Rivian skewed things a bit for me. The lack of long-travel suspension, especially in the rear created bucking that was to be expected,. Both were noticeably nose-heavy vehicles. I thought that with the battery pack between the wheels and down low that they would be more well-balanced than they were. Airing down is very important. EVs are much heavier than my Tacoma but I thought they would have reduced the tire pressure more than they did for traction. All-terrain tires also leave something to be desired in sand and rock crawling, but again the vehicles were more or less stock. Decently capable for stock rigs. I'm interested in seeing them modified for true off-road performance.

EVs thrive when off-roading due to slower speeds (exactly opposite to diesel-powered cars, that loose a lot of range due to excessive idling). Well, unless you are going up a literal mountain. Even then, you can simply go back down to gain like half the range back thanks to regen.

As a Cybertruck owner-Tri Motor Foundation Series (from Austin, Texas)-the latest software update will add more features to this truck (and there will be more update every month, for years to come, that NO manufacturer can do). Additionally, I have the Cyberbeast, which is way better than the Rivian R1T I traded in. Long story short, this video didn't really show what the Cybertruck can really do, as they only compared the Dual Motor to the R1T Quad Motor. Period.

Interesting you would assume this, when Tesla are said to spend nothing on advertising including social media, whilst companies like Toyota have massive worldwide advertising budgets, including significant spending on KZbin. Sounds like you just didn't like the conclusion.
@ck173508 ай бұрын
I don't know that they were paid for this but they sure didn't mention a single thing about the battery life. Donut couldn't get an hour out of LA without needing a charge. The battery life of their Cybertruck actually ruined the outing because they were simply unable to reach the destination with enough charge to both go rock crawling and get back to a charging station. The range was absolutely abysmal making it completely unusable for off roading. The Rivian may have exactly the same issue but Top Gear somehow didn't bring this up once.
@GDM228 ай бұрын
@@ck17350 I would find it hard to believe that it would only travel for 1 hour before requiring a charge. I don't know who Donut are but it sounds like their planning was pretty poor, recognising these vehicles obviously don't allow you to venture significant distances away from the charging network.
@ck173508 ай бұрын
@@GDM22So they were headed into the mountains outside of LA which is probably why they were burning up so much charage, but your point about poor planning... the point was, can an EV truck go offroading. How many charge networks extend into the wilderness? Hence my point about battery life for an offroading vehicle. You can't seem to get there and do your thing and get back. You've got to pick only one, so what's the point.
