The Arc Trainer is by FAR my favorite machine at my gym. I like the idea of the elliptical, but after about 10 minutes, my knees start to scream. I can go for 40 interval minutes on the Arc and have ZERO problems, so I can stay on longer and get more benefit. Thank you for a brilliant machine!

True it is because it gives you resistance in your upper body more than the elliptical

Harts Hauling how does it provide an upper body workout? I don’t see moving handles in this video, the arms are stationary on the machine.

I really wish you guys made a home use version of the lower body arc trainer that was actually affordable. I can't even afford the refurbed ones.

I believe that one applies the Forward Motion on the elliptical only during initial start-up. When the machine is up to speed, there's a great deal of inertia which takes care of that forward motion. Of course, someone could try go out of his was and keep pushing forward throughout the routine, but that would feel very unnatural. When I do the elliptical, the only burn comes from the quads.

I had knee surgery a few months ago. I normally use the elliptical, but today I tried the ARc trainer. I loved it. The arc trainer bothered my knee in the beginning because I was attempting to mimic the elliptical movement. When I adjusted the way I moved it actually felt better. The arc trainer is definately a new part of my workout.

I love this machine. I don't have it on my normal gym but it's located at another gym which I'm not a member at. The gym is awefully expensive, have very few weight plates (pathetic low amount actually), lacks equipment like benches, space to workout and have far too many machines (it's good to have many cardio machines). There is a machine for every muscle in the body and what I have learned is that free weights is the best way to increase muscle growth. The gym where this machine is located has a special offer every year. You can train for 1 week for free when the gym is manned. And every year I use that offer :) My personal record is 65 minutes at resistance level 35 and incline level 8 to 10.

The Planet Fitness gym's in my area have a mix of treadmills, elliptical, bicycles...they have quite a few Cybex 750A's. I love the Cybex hill programs at level 10 for an hour = awesome! The simulated hill climbing experience on the Cybex is the closest to mountain running/climbing I have come to on any device. Only thing it doesn't do, simulate the downhill experience ;D

Love it! I got a chance to use this at an apartment complex, felt really good. I definitely noticed the difference between this and previously using an elliptical. I know that exact pain that was referenced with the use of the elliptical. I didn’t feel it with this machine. Very well thought out.

I LOVE the Arc Trainer. Unfortunately not a single gym here in the north has one. It drives me crazy. I cannot use the elliptical because it hurts my knees. I have since joined aqua aerobics, and love those classes. If I could afford an Arc Trainer I would totally buy one for use at home. I saw such great results - and rather quickly - when I worked out on the AT.

An old post, so sorry for late response but for anyone else with the same question. Adjust the incline. You can adjust it so it feels almost like a x-country ski to a run to a climb. I would vary the incline throughout my workouts to really burn more calories.

I tried both at my gym last night and it felt like the arc trainer was placing more strain on my knees than the elliptical (walking on the tredmill they feel fine). On the arc trainer part of the problem was the steps felt very high so my knee had to lift up pretty high each time. I'm 5'4. Maybe it's a stride thing? Is there usually a way to adjust it?

Any elliptical is NOT a natural movement of your legs and they no where near mimic the natural movement that you would do if you were to be running or walking outside without a machine.

But running can stress the knees too. All joints, in fact, because of the force of coming down from an airborne position.

So instead of using muscles to move the plate forward, you’re only pushing down and back. Less stress, less work , less results.
@tommydeluca2120
@tommydeluca2120 5 жыл бұрын
Nah. Stress on the body does not equate to increased oxygen consumption/calorie burn. The only thing stress means is that a joint, tendon, muscle, or bone is being pressed on, stretched, or used in any way INCORRECTLY. More stress means less exertion during future workouts, and therefore, less results.

Cybex, I started using this machine a week or so ago, I always enter my weight into program(right now I'm at 253) I did 35 minutes on it today on 30 to 50 resistance, and 5 to 10 on incline, varying both. The computer had me at 501 calories burned, is this accurate?
