Thank you.. I ordered seeds online and did not know to peel the flesh off and clean first. I'm thankful I had the smarts to search proper planting before just popping them into soil!! Will be looking for the germination video.

Thanks for the info. I picked up some Cycad seeds from the San Diego Wild Safari park. They're all dried with the fruit casing on the outside. I'll soak them and see if they float or sink.

How long should I soak the orange seeds
@barkunlimitedorganics71242 жыл бұрын
The seeds can be soaked until the flesh can be removed easily. This can be a quick as a couple of days or may take up to two weeks, depending on how ripe the fruit around te seeds are. Warmer temperatures will also exhilarate the fermenting process of the fruit.

Why is my cycad seeds making noise when I shake it?it's like a small ball in the middle
@nicolangovender77492 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this buddy. I just checked that my cycad has completed its flowering and all the cone is falling apart now. Is it legal for a person to sell the cycads in SA? Checking before I go through this process.

How do i sell my cycads?
@janwillemlubbinge83163 жыл бұрын
Hi Terrance, thank you for watching my video and your question. I live in South Africa and the family of Encephalartos cycads are indigenous to my country. We have a permit system, monitored by a government agency. In our country you need a permit in order to trade in these plants. You also need a transport permit and a permit to own our indigenous cycads. For the exotic species, in other words cycads from other countries we do not need permits. I presume you do not live in South Africa? If their is no legislation in your country for trading in cycads I suggest you try and contact other cycad growers and collectors first as it is easier selling cycads to other people with the same interest. They normally have the same enthusiasm and valuation of these very special plants as we do.

All parts of a Cycad are poisonous. But specifically the seeds can be fatal if any part is ingested.

Is the seeds not toxic? Are we not supposed to wear gloves?
@barkunlimitedorganics71242 жыл бұрын
Hi Nellie. Thank you for watching our videos and your question. The seed kernels are highly toxic while the pulp around the seeds is generally considered non-toxic, but could have trace elements of the toxins cycasin and macrozamin. The amount of these toxins will differ from species to species. The toxins are known to cause severe liver damage in humans and are also carcinogenic. It is not necessary to ware gloves but one may do so if it makes you feel safer. Kind regards. Jan.

I just got plenty of orange seeds, took them out of the cone, and put them in a bucket of water. But there is no way the skin comes right off. How long do the seeds need to set before you do this? Now I have to dry them all off and put them somewhere until they are ready. How long would that be?
@danibecker3911 Жыл бұрын
Leave them in water for 2/3 days or longer till the flesh softens and them take it of easy. But you must have figured that out by now ( a month later) .
@Miami7 Жыл бұрын
@@danibecker3911 actually no, I hadn't figured that out, and really appreciate your reply. I've had them outside "aging" and they have started getting wrinkly. So now I'm going to give them the water treatment. Thanks!
