Cycle Outer Hebrides - Eriskay & South Uist

Episode 2 of the Cycle Outer Hebrides series. We cycle from the slipway on Eriskay where the Barra ferry docks, then travel the whole length of South Uist.

looks like a great ride , did you wild camp ? or are there plenty of b&b's to stay in ?

We stayed in independent hostels while in the Hebrides. The quality of the hostels/bunkhouses was somewhat variable, but fine for one night each.

thanks Donald ;) , I was going to take my tent but it does look a tad barren of any shelter from the elements , owt's better than nowt as they say ;)

Indeed. We encountered some fine weather, but also horizontal driving rain with a near-gale force wind. That said we met someone who did wild camp the whole way, so it is possible :)

that's what I was thinking of haha , how did you get back to oban , did you use the cycle taxi that I've read about ? , it supposedly takes you back to the start and the ferry home

We didn't go back to Oban as we all live in Glasgow, so we caught a train back from Inverness. We did use the Bike Bus from Ullapool to Inverness which was an experience! The driver did a steady 60mph the whole way and we were quite surprised our bikes were still on the open trailer when we got to Inverness :)
