Cycle touring around Islay & Jura

August 2022
A four day cycle tour visiting the islands of Islay & Jura. Visiting distillery landmarks along the way and wild camping. I visited Caol ila distillery and sampled their peaty delights.. Using my trusty steed Bored Man 'on tour' and resting in Jack Wolfskin exolight 1 - it was a great escape.

A great adventure Jim and I enjoyed joining you. The weather was good for cycling somthing I've not done in Scotland. Plenty of motorcycling and hiking though. I did enjoy 4 nights on Islay and Jura 4 years ago with her indoors and an excellent place for a holiday and I certainly enjoyed the distilleries. Thanks for sharing Jim. ATB 🌞👍

There's a lovely cafe at Ardbeg distillery. Also a cafe at Kilchoman distillery on the far west of the island.

Really enjoyed watching / listening to this vid Jim. Good video and colours brill. Stunning scenery. 🚴‍♀️ ride looks good too [liked the bike]. It's maybe somewhere for me to think of travelling to by 🚙 me thinks. Maybe B&B a few days as it looks quite photogenic to me. Best Jim... Now I'm on my pins again I'm hoping to get fit enough to redo Fionn Loch causeway.... midgies have 'almost' gone so it's in my 🧠

Nice one Jim. Was there early august bikepacking with the kids when the weather was too poor for hillwalking. We cycled round to port Charlotte, machir bay and then ardnave point. The camp at ardnave point was a highlight. Well worth a return visit. Didn’t envy you the cycle up from port askaig! Atb gordon

Cheers Gordon. You visited all the places I've still to do. I'd like to see more of Jura too. Lovely islands and very lucky with the weather. The hardest part was the return to Port Ellen into a headwind. Having cycled it the day before via Bowmore, there wasn't much to appreciate... Loved it though. Cheers Gordon. 🚴😎

@@BoredManOutdoors we had planned to go to Jura but liked islay too much. Highly recommend those southern beaches for a wild camp. Good to know Jura is worth the visit: well defo go back. Still got 3 of the distilleries to visit too :-)

Well what an enjoyable nearly 40 minutes, you know my feelings regarding that Island, to me it is sacred ground, I have attended a church service at Bowmore and found it a wonderful experience. The west coast is definitely worth exploring, machir and Saligo bay are both fantastic beaches as is Ardnave Point near Loch Gruinart. Port Charlotte and the hotel there are also fantastic. The island is truly beautiful and Jura for tranquility is even more quiet. I hope you loved as much as I do All the best TtT 👍
