I had a buddy who owned an H-1 back in the day. I used to ride it a lot. What I remember most about it was its incredible acceleration and the fact that it was really hard to keep the front wheel on the ground. A wheelie machine!

I've got chills, that is music to my ears! My first moto memories were my neighbors H1 with Denko's. My scariest moto memory was when my own H1, which was tweaked to the high end, seized the center cylinder when I shut down throttle after blitzing through the gears. After I pulled in the clutch it tank slapped for a bit, then somewhere around 70 mph it finally stabilized. Just before I stopped I popped the clutch, rode it home and sold it to my old neighbor, the one whose H1 was my first bike memories. The circle of life!

I knew a fellow who built and raced a record breaking H2 drag bike. He was a very innovative builder, and was well connected and respected in H2 race circles. Some of the biggest names in H2 racing today knew him well. When most racers were simply sending their engines to the master, Paul Gast, he did almost all of his own porting, tuning, fabricating etc. He was quite possibly the very first racer to put nitrous on an H2. He told me that he was, and to this day I have no reason to doubt it. Later he solved the fragile transmission issue that plagues all H2 drag racers, and mated a Z1 900 transmission to his bike. This was an incredible feat of engineering, design and fabrication. He was a master welder, machinist and fabricator, and did everything himself. It looked great, and worked flawlessly for many seasons. To this day, I haven't seen another H2 with such a modification. He told me it made 200 HP, and weighed a mere 200 pounds. He was super meticulous about shaving weight, and said this was very important for an H2, since they were so limited on displacement. His 60-foot times were some of the best, and he painstakingly kept up with this and sought to improve upon it. He said his bike was always stock bore too - 748cc. In the early 90s he rode it to a record breaking 8th mile pass in 5.18 seconds. It was a perfect, beautiful pass. I was there, and was blown away by the spectacle. I never forgot it either. To this day I can still watch that pass play out in my mind, and remember every detail. I was near the finish line, and his front wheel was an inch of the ground when he went by. He offered to sell me the bike for $3000.00 when he quit racing, without the nitrous, which he concluded was worth a few extra thousand for the innovative, one of a kind "tricks" that he had perfected and which made it the quickest in the world. I had grown up on Triples, but I wouldn't have ridden that beast with the nitrous anyway. I was a starving young husband and soon-to-be father with a hefty mortgage though, and had all the other bills that came with starting a family. I now wish I had done it anyway, and could donate it to the Barber's Museum so others could appreciate it. I changed jobs about that time and had to travel a lot. Then all the pressures of raising kids etc hit. My priorities changed because of this. We both moved during that period too, and I lost touch with him, but I often think of him and wonder what became of that very special bike. The 2-stroke racing community lost a world class racer and gentleman when he passed away in 2011 at just 58 years of age. RIP, Steven Berton Jacks.

Absolutely loved it. My older brother (by 6yrs) joined the Navy in 1972 right after high school. His first year, month long leave in 73 he rode home to Nor-Cal on a brand new 1973 "H1 Mach 4 Kawasaki 500". I almost died! I'm the bike nut, not him! He knew that and teased me, saying he "almost got me a new Kawi 350 triple when he bought his 500 but since I was only 13, mom & dad woulda said no! ".... Jerk! But he "had to leave the 500 home" cause his first tour of duty was in Hawaii, & "don't touch his G..damn bike!" Sooo ,, he told me 3 yrs later he knew I'd sneak it away when the folks weren't looking and have fun! Love that guy! Which is exactly what I did, of course, always worried as hell! Many many adventures and memories. Thanks guys for the videos, I'll subscribe right now! 👍😁 P. S. I was one of the cool rebels in school because "I had a Kawi 500 and rode it to school" (sssh)! from the 9th grade. Tell ya later about ditching all the cops! Yes I was a dumb ass!

I love 2 stroke bikes. I had a 76 Kawasaki 400KH 2 stroke triple. I sure wish I still had that bike. I could never keep the front wheels on the ground. Used to get many tickets when I'd leave the cops' Harley's at a red light in a cloud of blue smoke. I always did wheelies off the line at a red light.

After the burn out it got stuck in third. It had to be shut off to get it back to neutral to re start it. That bike ran a 8.612 @ 151.11 this January.

Suzuki 2-strokes...ah the memories. 40 odd years ago (jr. high) neighbor kid - a quietly cool high schooler - had a '74-'75 GT380 with ram-air. I recall his dad not being happy when the stock pipes were replaced with expansion pipes - angry bees, personified. Hat tip to these guys for keeping these old machines alive and running.

1972, I was 14 years old, and I bought a brand new H1 and boy was it fast, it was my 5th motorcycle, novice riders need not apply, they weren't called widowmakers for nothing, what's really amazing is that these bikes only had 7 moving parts, 3 pistons, 3 connecting rods, and 1 crankshaft. 🇺🇸👍

I bought a H2 in 1974 on the east side of Indy. I raced it until 79 then sold it. Bill Burdette of Denco performance of Indy helped me with motor work and I did all the chassis work. I sure enjoyed the video and thank you for doing that.

1984 at Ft Riley, KS I bought a Kawasaki H2 750 from one of my soldiers for $100.00. About $350.00 later it was a nice and very fast motorcycle. New tires, 3 sets of new piston rings , 3 new exhaust pipe baffles, new chrome headlight bucket bezel, new battery, reupholstered seat, new paint on fenders and fuel tank, and new 2 stroke oil pump. Rode the bike all summer and then sold it for $500.00 just before I had to leave to go to school at Ft Lee, VA before being station in Europe.

I had a 1969 H1, and a 1972 H 2. The H1 500cc had practically no torque, but at 5600 rpm you better hang on. The 1972 750 was a lot easier to ride because of more torque. The late great Dave Schultz pioneered the two stroke Pro Stock Kawasaki’s. I remember him running 8,40s in a quarter. WOW. The hardest thing in these bikes was trying to keep the transmission together. He was a great person.

I have a 63ccm 2 stroke with 12hp at the wheel mated to a 3spd manual Transmission. All in a moped frame from 1971. We have 100m drag races over here in Germany racing these mopeds against each other... Its the most fun ever... And you can litteraly build an engine for less than 700€

I owned an H1 Kaw in 1970. Great fun bike. EASY to work on. No cams, took the heads off to have them honed, put them back on, and it ran. Unfortunately a high school kid, with a criminal record, stole it and ran it into a low brick wall, flew off the bike into the school’s brick wall. He survived with a fractured leg, got up, and attacked the cop that was chasing him. That was the end of my H1. One trick I learned, wear two pairs of athletic socks, greatly reduces the foot vibration. Y’all ride now, ya hear.

In tenth grade back in 1971 at the ten-minute break they made ten-second 1/4-mile's on the strip in front of John Glenn high school with these bikes launching into space! 4 lanes and a middle turn lane was ideal for drag races and no fancy stabilizer bars in back it was Wheelie City. I can still see the smoke rising above from burning off the rubber for traction and the fierce noise, it all came together. Cops were always there, but never on time!

6th grade, circa '76. Neighbor had a '72 Lime Green H2. I was never late for school, it was my 7:30 wake-up call EVERY weekday morning as he fired it up to head to work. This thing was as sinister as I thought a bike should be, snarly and nasty with the expansion chambers on it. I remember it being stretched a bit and all he did on the weekend was bolt on the wheelie bar's and head over to "Phenix City Dragway". The good ole' days...

I had a S2 350 about 20 years ago. I loved that little thing. Should've hung onto it. Hell, should have bought every triple I tripped over, every brit bike, cheap Ducati single and stuck 'en all in a shed to triple in value. Oh well, next life I'll be wiser.

@@craigstreetzel7743 yep thought the Z1k covered it coz pretty much the same motor n pipes but any earlier big Kwaka with that 4in1 was great sound. My mate had a B1or2 GPz1100 with 4in1 and it was wild. I had a Z750turbo and never really played with anything on it but people said they could pick the turbo whine as i pulled away from them... to be fair any brand big 4 banger with good 4in1 is sweet. latest bikes not so sweet coz different motors these days i guess... oh and lets not forget emissions and Db crap. a mates worked 96ci Harley has nasty Santee pipes that rip hard too but aint my thing and more annoying than any other bike if you ride with him.

I went to buy one at the end of 75 19 75, and that's when the first 900 L.T.D Kawasaki came to South Louisiana, buying it still today.I regret not getting a two stroke

My first street bike was a 1972 H2 that I bought from the original owner in 1974.He was a older guy and he was scared to death of it.I was 18 at the time and invincible or so I thought.I was wearing a captain America helmet with a full size face shield and the very first time I cracked her open in first gear,the front end came up and shattered my shield.I had that bike for 18 months and about 10 thousand miles and was always scared of it and those dam wheelstands.Bought a new Z-1 in 75 and that was also very fast but very controllable.

I remember the Kawasaki 3cyl 2 stroke street cycles. A widow maker to the foolish, and a neighbor had a Yamaha RS (350cc) prior to the 400cc RD series 2 strokes.

Joe Kurtz rI re bet my friend just got a500 cc three cylinder. We were at TV He bar drinking and someone tightened the trees down, when he took off like a streak he hit a car within 100 ft going over 60, he suvived, the bike did not. So he bought a new one with the insurance money.
