Good job making it through the smoke. I’ve been out in a bit of it when it’s been pretty bad down near Chicago, I can’t imagine being right in it and cycling. It really does impact your breathing. Hopefully no more smoke and no more bears 🐻!

Dan, good to see you again (we met in Tok). Those are Wood Bison and on our way back through Alberta we saw a huge herd. So exciting, especially the little calves frolicking. Did you find any road/city signs from the UK at the road sign forest in Watson Lake? And I can’t believe it but all 3 of us braved the Skywalk at the Columbia Icefield - hope you were able to go there. Safe travels.
@DanCyclesTheWorld Жыл бұрын
Wow it must’ve been amazing to see a full herd! I only found 1 in the sign post forest from the UK :)

You should have been able to dunk your rear axle cassette under water and spun the pedals and let it freewheel all the dirt out and dealt with a relube later.

What was the issue with your bike? How did the shop fix it? Watching a little further in the video...the cassette and hub. Bummer. Would your bike be a Surly Ghost Grappler?
@DanCyclesTheWorld10 ай бұрын
It was a jammed free hub, the bike shop took it apart and cleaned it and it was all good, and yes it’s a ghost grappler… or just a grappler I think now

Having food in your tent is not a good idea in bear country.
@DanCyclesTheWorld Жыл бұрын
Yeah absolutely it was just a tough day and I made sure anything I didn’t eat I packed away with the rest of my food :)
@elijahkraatz9700 Жыл бұрын
You probably know this already but a bear’s sense of smell is 7 times stronger than a bloodhound. The odor of your food will linger on in your tent long after you’ve eaten. Nothing makes a bad day worse than a bear ripping through your tent! I like to carry an ultralight tarp for eating in the rain. In my opinion it’s well worth the extra weight. Really enjoyed the longer video!

Where are your front bags?
@DanCyclesTheWorld Жыл бұрын
I changed my set up a bit, I’m trying to carry as little gear as possible and those front bags were causing my handlebars to wobble when going downhill so I moved my sleeping bag and mat into a backpack on my rear rack
