What about older riders who have no interest in 'wheelies' but rather use our bicycles as a low-cost means of transport, ensure we display lights after dark and never ride on pavements? I suppose we aren't cool, but all the members of Bikelife will grow older in time. My expectation is that most will dump their bikes and buy a car, if they haven't already. This is bicycling as a fashionable trend.

Your expectation. You might be wrong. You might be right. In the mean time, try to embrace it and see the positivity in it. Yes, they should be wearing helmets. Yes, they should be wearing hi viz jackets. Yes, they should be stopping at red lights. But they are on bikes, enjoying bikes, and building communities. They can't be 'beaten', only 'joined' and, slowly, guided.
