Could be a cool video for you to pull up all the clips and photos of SX training related content and speculate what they’re doing for training. I’m more in the off road of things so don’t follow sx/mx but would be interesting to see since they’re pushing at such a high level with so much money involved.

BMX bikes always worked for me. Body positioning and ergonomics are similar. I would do 30 mile rides all standing and not allowed to sit down at any point. It helped improve my riding and racing quite a bit. .

That sounds like it would be extremely demanding, I love it! I might use that to train some of the guys here at MTF lol!

@@JacobPennisiMX Ohh yeah, it's very demanding but it really worked well for me. Is a little hard on the bikes cranks, so you will have to replace them more than normal riding, but it's worth it. I think if you try this out on the guys, they will like it. It's more fun than just straight road riding. I would be curious to hear your feedback, if you do try this out.

That's gnarly! What style/model of bmx were you riding?

@@builttoride It's a 20" Haro BMX bike. I also did it on my 26" GT Cruiser but felt the 20" Haro was overall a better workout.

I’ve always thought about doing all my bike workouts standing the whole time since we stand so much on dirtbikes. I guess a bmx would force you to do that since the seat is so low! I feel like it would work good for high intensity but seems hard to get a consistent slow and low HR z2 pedal stroke going while standing and not having gears

Love your vids! I would make an argument for mountain biking. It has all of the advantages of road cycling, but also adds upper body work, includes HIIT and is not boring. Additionally, you can develop motocross skills like line selection, balance, etc.

I couldn't agree more. Mountain biking might be the best cardio for motocross, and I don't usually label things like that. It's so dynamic and fast paced and it definitely helps you with balance and coordination.

I was really hoping to see a breakdown on rowing!! Thoughts?

I love rowing! Motocross is a full body sport that needs good lower body AND upper body endurance. Rowing provides cardio that gives you both! I think it's a great tool to prepare for motocross!

Hi Jacob , thank you for your video , at my age " 43 " to be a weakend motocross/enduro rider i have to be in shape to be able to ride , I love Cycling in summer time , I do running wen away from home due to work, and I do rowing (waterower) at home in my home gym Any specific rowing workout routine that you recommend? Thank you 🇵🇹

Hey Ricardo, I love that! Keep it up! As far as a rower workout, my personal favorite is called "Fartlek Intervals". For this workout, you start with a short warm up, then you do a 1 minute sprint followed by 2 minute slow recovery row. Repeat this for 7-10 times. You will love it! Jacob

Thank you very much for your tip , I will try Fartlek intervals this week. I usually make the 5:1 system ( 1 minuto rowing) that I read in Simon waterson book I wold be cool one training for adutor in other to improve leg strength for pressing the bike between our knees Thanks I will keep watching you 👍

what about the rower machine how is that for cardio?
@JacobPennisiMX
@JacobPennisiMX Жыл бұрын
The rower machine is also excellent for cardio, as long as you're consistent and training at the right intensities! (include some low intensity rowing for a long period of time, and then add in some time of intervals or threshold work).

Would you say rowing has the benefit of adding grip endurance at the same time as cardio?

Great stuff, thanks for resuming Jacob. I've been working out a lot since last December and trying to apply your lessons. (I do also like the deep technical info from the likes of Dr. Peter Attia but he's more focused on longevity) Question on max HR. I do hours on the spin bike each week as you suggest for zone 2 cardio. For a zone 5, VO2 max or HIIT run I also work my arms with dumbbells while riding. I can get my HR high and really breathing hard. Riding my dirtbike I can get my HR ten bpm higher than the highest I can achieve on the spin bike with dumbbells. Is this due to adrenalin? Which number do I take as my max HR for zone calculation purposes? Thanks!

Hey Jay, thanks so much for the support on the videos! I love knowing that people like you are watching and getting value from them! To answer your question, yes it is mostly due to adrenaline and other hormones such as cortisol. I would use the HR max of whatever mode of cardio you're looking to use the percentages for. Example would be you want to do a bike ride at 65% of your HR max, I would use your HR Max from the bicycle, not from riding. The HR max is constantly changing due to training and adaptation, and it varies greatly between cycling to rowing to riding. Hope this helps!
