I live in one of the south Asian countries, the traffic and unnecessary honking situation is so much severe here that it affects the quality of life and metal health considerably. I use to enjoy your Japan videos a lot because of the peacefulness and sensible traffic condition. Hope your USA videos in the future will be a treat too.

The one thing I learned on my cycling trips to Vietnam (quite a few years ago) is that speed matters. If you can keep up with the general speed in urban areas you are fine, you are just one of the pack. If you are slow, its very stressful.

@@timtigerz1 curious, where were you from in the U.S.? I live in a small town in Washington and there’s homeless encampments in different areas. We have needles and foil left behind my work from people doing drugs. Children are being shot in school pretty much on a daily basis as there are more guns than people in America (guns aren’t legal in Vietnam) I think if you asked the average American would they feel safe walking the streets at 2 am the answer would most certainly be NO whereas I personally feel very safe in Vietnam. Another thing my wife noticed was the road rage in America. People are so incredibly rude riding your bumper and flipping you off etc. In Vietnam it’s mostly lots of honking to alert each other but no road rage or flipping people off. My dad lives in El Paso TX and had just left the mall recently where the was a shooting the same day, I think 4 people were killed. It’s like the Wild West here in America. Police are being more and more restricted and can’t even do anything for certain crimes. 😬 the best thing here is all the open roads for cycling and parks. Obviously it’s a better place for making money than Vietnam but it’s also gotten insanely expensive to live here.

Would you leave your Phone or laptop on a table and go to the bathroom? That totally blew my mind when I saw a lot of people do it in Taiwan. Really savor your time there as much as you can. After living in Taiwan for 3 years, we're back in the US and it's only been a few months and we already miss it and the food like crazy. Most of all we miss the sense of safety that we had in Taiwan. I live in a safe neighborhood in NJ and still wouldn't feel comfortable walking around by myself at night whereas we'd walk around at 3am in Taiwan through a dark park without any concern.

Hello Thương & Cruise, or better Xin chào, bạn khỏe không...it's Monday April 10th here in our temporary adopted home of Đà Nẵng Việt Nam. After watching your video, I was actually amaze by how straightforward and truthful you was about, life in Đà Nẵng / Việt Nam when it comes to the day to day norms, because most KZbinrs who're passing through Việt Nam tend to embellish what life is really like, by stating everything is great giving a false sense of life here, instead of differentiating what to expect as a foreigner on vacation verse a foreigner who is looking to live in Việt Nam, which is like night and day, on what you'll deal with when it comes to the daily norms & bureaucracy of living in any country. In the 5 years I've been living in Việt / Đà Nẵng I have never been disillusioned about what is, but despite everything I still chose to live here because of my wife who's a local, my past Vietnamese friendship and the warm-hearted welcome I received as a person of color / Caribbean American who grew up in Southern California, now lives in Đà Nẵng due to my open outwardly perspective etc. But I take issue with one thing you did say when it comes to theft and local crime, despite the statistics and mostly unreported crimes that do happen here in Việt Nam / Đà Nẵng you'll still need to be careful with your valuables here in Đà Nẵng like cellphones, cameras, purse or leave a expensive motobike helmet hanging on your motobike. I myself have been robbed of my expensive motobike helmet while I was only 20 feet away from it, my motobike was parked by the Han Bridge when a local guy drove up took my helmet and drove off, plus I've already had 3 accidents and one fender bender, none of them being my fault and each time I was responsible for my own repairs, because the person who hit me just walked off... Việt Nam is a great place to visit if you're interested in the culture and traditions but to live it will take a lot of thinking, which overall a lot of foreigners just come to Việt Nam or Southeast Asia in general because of how cheap everything is and affordable living, but in the long run your health and state of mind matters more, because Việt Nam can be a very loud and stressful place.

@@TwoWheelCruise Wow 😂 That's too funny 🤣 bro, I told you, lol, hahaha. Đà Nẵng is a nice place but you still have to be very careful with your cellphone, cameras, purse, baggage etc. Seriously there's no difference between Đà Nẵng, Sài Gòn or Hà Nội when it comes to daily theft, so you & Thương just be careful out there, I myself have to keep reminding myself daily to be careful as well because I recently not to long ago purchased another brand new 2023 Yamaha NVX 155 motobike, which is very stylish so it stands out, plus I added a few modifications to it, along with a carrier pack and at least a few times a month in the last 6 months since I bought it, a local or my next door neighbors will tell me to be careful because my bike can be stolen or some can steal my carrier pack, so I'm always mindful of where I park my motobike. So yeah bro, safety, safety safety always have to be at the forefront of your mind here in Việt Nam wherever you go. The title of your next video should be (Ironically Theft is fact a in Đà Nẵng) 🤣

Another random cycling question lol. Is it hard to find the tannus solid tires in bike shops in Japan or do the major brand name shops carry them? I know you didn't recommend them for touring but I don't want to have to deal with mechanical issues/flats on the road and that would take one off the list. I almost forgot, what about belt drive bikes are they hard to find? I wish bmc didn't do away with that 2020 alpenchallenge commuter bike you showed with fenders, that seemed like a good deal.
@TwoWheelCruise

do you still use a belt driven bike or did you just switch to a chain driven bike? Just curious... I got a road bike and a MTB bike and I plan to get a mix of both, without drop bars (my road bike has flat bars, street fighter style). Gravel bikes usually have gear ratios compared to road bikes, plus they usually have drop bars. So my dream bike is a mix of a road bike and a MTB (easy gears for a hilly region such as the one where I am from), and maybe a touring/trekking bike with a belt drive would be great

Obviously, every country has its pros and cons. However, I would really struggle to live in a place where if I wanted to go for much-loved bike rides , I would have to constantly defend myself against dangerous drivers and motorcyclists, who do not care about injuring me and fill my lungs with toxic fumes. As you say, we are all able to adapt and make the most of even the most challenging conditions. But ultimately, does this actually make us happy ? You are being very generous towards that city and its picturesque setting, but realistically, I doubt it would ever offer you any decent future. The US is not perfect, but being a citizen gives you a head start, and coming from Vietnam , Thuong is definitely no afraid of hard work !

Yeah, I've been riding in Da Nang for a few months now. I feel like it's only a matter of time before someone crashes me. Hope it's something low speed and not someone passing blind at the wrong time on Hai Van and hitting me head on. In the last 6 months I've seen somewhere from 1-3 dead people on the road. Some riding is excellent like Hoa Bac and in that case there's almost no traffic so it removes that problem. Makes me want to move over to that edge of town since most of the time Hai Van is also great. The thing I don't think I'll ever understand how it's possible, is .. that guy at @27:30,... when you see him at @27:38, I know with 95% certainty that he is in the process of forgetting what just happened and within another few seconds it will be completely erased from his mind, having never given the situation that occurred a moment of thought. I've asked my friends here specifically about what exactly a normal Vietnamese person would be thinking the seconds after they nearly crash, and the answer is "nothing". Vietnamese are masters about not thinking too much, but in the case of driving safety, it's deadly.

Cycling in traffic in Vietnam is similar to cycling in the Philippines. The only difference is we pretend to have a semblance of order. As some people do follow traffic rules. While the majority of bad drivers on the road don’t. The most guilty offenders are motorbikes with no helmet, no shoes, no number plates, and no drivers license! You can find videos of it at ‘Gadget Addict’ channel on KZbin.

One thing I like in Britain is how we deal with pedestrians. You’re allowed to cross anywhere, as long as you look both ways before you go of course. You’re not mandated to use pedestrian crossings, or judged by people. And in the latest Highway Code, they emphasise the responsibility larger and heavier vehicle drivers have for everyone more vulnerable than them. I think the way this effects cycling in particular has been a disaster and poorly messaged by the government. It’s caused a lot of confusion and anger. It’s hard to not think this was deliberate by the Tories, but that’s another topic. But for pedestrians I think it’s definitely been a step forward. I would hate to be forced to cross at specific locations. That would be far too pro car and anti human nature.

22:30 it doesn't matter, if it is a dog, cat, cow, pig or a chicken. All animals have the right to live. But people always put them in different classes. Some animals are for eating, others to love. So where is the difference between these animals? They all wanna live and don't wanna get killed to get eaten. If the the voiceless could speak, they would tell it you: Don't kill me. But unfortunately they cannot. If people beat a dog on the street, everybody complains and is shocked. But when cows, pigs and chickens get slaughtered, it is normal.... 🤦‍♂
@TwoWheelCruise
@TwoWheelCruise Жыл бұрын
Many people also have pet pigs, ducks, chickens, etc nowadays. I think no matter the type of pet, the owner would be devastated to have that pet stolen, especially if it was used as food. Most people in Vietnam will eat just about any animal though, so at least they do not "discriminate" in a sense. Japan actually hunts down and kills thousands of stray dogs and cats every year, but I think this is much worse since at least in Vietnam the meat is used to feed people. I do wish there were more vegetarian options here and more respect for animals though like in Thailand.
