Immediately upon opening the video, I could see the clean air, clear horizon, and big sky. That's a great feeling. I was so sick of that haze in Thailand. Really makes me reconsider vacationing there. I might have to just go to Vietnam instead.

To be fair Vietnam has a lot of EU support and it makes da nang amazing Seriously amazing Head south or even Saigon and it makes Thailand look like Florida clean Biking in the south is a challenge too or more stressful than the north Best thing about the north for me was the mountain rides near son la to sapa

Ahhh...Da Nang! Hoi Anh is stunning and lots of great riding on smaller roads there. When it all gets too hot take a bus up to Dalat: temps are much cooler and the architecture is French/Swiss mountain chalet style...it's a very European feel. And you will really get your hills in! Vietnam was such a great choice...you will never want to leave!

Wow, having just moved to Saigon to be with my wife, I wish there were such safe, beautiful stretches of beach-front road like in Da Nang. As it is, I was able to get an indoor trainer setup to alleviate the cycling blues. Still don’t know when I’ll gather the courage to venture onto the streets. I’ve been to the beach towns of Da Nang and Nha Trang, and know that the slower traffic with fewer cars makes those destinations a lot safer than here in the big city. Anyway, congratulations on your move and good luck! I think you picked the right location to accommodate your love of cycling.

At this point, the only reason I'd want to move back to the US is to get Thuong a US passport. The US does offer a chance at a better life for many people coming from poor environments though, but for us right now Vietnam has more opportunities for us I believe.

Really interesting guy as he's a good looking guy so he does modeling and then is out there in the mud fishing and in the dirt growing bananas. LOL! Phuc Map also moved there around the same time Dustin did (about 7 years ago). And Max McFarlin came from a tiny town in the south and moved there after visiting a few countries. Chris Lewis moved there from Colorado and he speaks amazing Vietnamese.

I’m not a fan of the urban highway type of road design they’ve implemented but in general it looks pretty safe. Probably safer than my town on the south coast of England. It’s actually similar along the seafront road. Except ours is single lane and the drivers speed along there and can pass cyclists aggressively. So maybe the dual lane works in this case. Especially when traffic is low.
@TwoWheelCruise
@TwoWheelCruise 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's really bad design and doesn't work well with how the local people need to use it (lots of backward driving). But it's at least a little safer than Thailand's with the lower speeds.

The beach and the surroundings look amazing! What a place to ride. I'm sorry for Thuong's bike, I also hope it is just surface damage and nothing underlying, hopefully you guys can get it checked soon! I know you don't like biking on the walkpath, but it looks actually wonderful even for biking, I would definitely rest it (sure I don't have carbon roadbike, so I wouldn't be too worried about a couple of bumps :)) I saw on strava you guys enjoy long rides now on the mountains, so I'm looking forward to seeing more and more videos coming out! I was in Danang 10 years ago. Took a bus from Bangkok to Laos border, changed bus and drove on to VN border. There were 60 of us cyclists on Central VN bike tour. We biked from Lao border to the coastal city of Danang, Hoi An and biked back. Visiting tunnels, emperor tombs. We also biked up Banana Hill and stayed at the hotel up there. No aircon as it was quite high and cool year round. Traffic on country roads are not heavy but Danang was similar to Bangkok but a little less congested. Hardly there was any traffic lights, but cyclists, motorcyclists and cars seemed to know to avoid each other quite well. We could not do that well and needed to follow the guide Van around Danang whenever we left the hotel. There were many empty buildings in Danang. The guide said real estate was overdeveloped and could not sell. We spent in Central VN for 8 days altogether.

I'm glad to see you guys made it back to Vietnam and welcome to my neighborhood and playground Đà Nẵng, even though I'm American / from Southern California, I've made Đà Nẵng my home base for everything Asia etc... At any rate Vo Nguyen Giap is perfect for riding just heading towards Sơn Trà mountain, plus the weather you're experiencing in Đà Nẵng has been odd for the last 6 months with cold to wind and rainy at times. Also please do not live in the Expat Bauble, call (Cracker Town) aka (An Thuong) you and your wife should look into the (Anh Hai Bac area) where I live or (Hải Châu area) there's also the ( Cam Le area) which also have a beach view, the one thing about all these area is that they're very good and convenient local areas with more to offer than the Expat Bauble. Any way much love and welcome home from one Fellow KZbinr to the next. I will love to do a meet and greet if you're OK with it, when I get back from Thailand. @@BrianMax Oh, too bad. LOL. I'm from Edmonton. Happy Easter. Actually, when I got down Hai Van, I was testing my SA drum brake a bit aggressively and the fork snapped clear thru near the top. A laser couldn't do a cleaner cut. My faulty designed brazeons and it was too wimpy to start with for the weight. So anyway there was a welder only 2 miles away. Then later it broke 2 more times. LOL. Geeze you need a bunch of rain, Lake Mead is sinking like the Titanic. I've been there half a dozen times. The last in Oct. 2019, I just drove thru. Nothing is boring in Utah, eh? Can't say I agree with filling up the place with settlers. DaNang is beautiful and sure is growing. The weather isn't so great, coastal is always windy.

Right now, there is not much motor scooters on the roads during the lock down. So bicycling is safe. But I’m curious once they open up and more scooters are on the roads…are you guys still going to bike around the city or go toward the country side where there is less traffic?
@TwoWheelCruise
@TwoWheelCruise 2 жыл бұрын
There is no lock down now, but maybe there is less traffic from less tourism. We're going to look for the safer roads for riding.

The horns are much more intense in HCMC and Hanoi. It's a wave of sound that starts from early in the morning until late in the evening. It's an unhealthy amount of noise pollution.

Where is your Trimm One? I need a new bike computer and considering one. I live in Tokyo and wondering about the maps. Does it have a Viet Nam map? I've been to Hoi An and loved it. Wish i had my bike to ride there.
@TwoWheelCruise
@TwoWheelCruise 2 жыл бұрын
Thuong is still using the Trimm One, I usually use my Bolt since I like the Strava live segments there better. The maps are connected from your phone, so it works fine here.

The highway along the beach is well designed and maintained, only if the people driving were little more sensible with the traffic laws then cycling on the highway seems fun.

RC- Right in Danang you won’t find many gravel roads. But Hoi An is not far at all, and you can find gravel roads down there. By careful of the heat. In Danang and Hoi An , it was very very hot by mid morning. I was there in June. Pretty sure is cools down a bit in December January. I recommend Dalat . Dirt roads just outside of the city center. With big elevation gains / loss. Not hot at all.
