In this episode, we cycle our aquaponic system for the first time! But before that, we have to do a lot of prep work like adding ammonia into the system, doing daily water testing and so on. This whole process of can take you 4 weeks up to 4 months or more. You want to make sure that the ammonia is turning in to nitrate on a timely matter. Nitrate is what the plants absorb as their food. Having too much ammonia in your pond can be detrimental to your fish and we want happy fish. Happy fish means healthy plants.
Once we were able to cycle our system after a few months, we were finally ready to add plants. Special thanks to Loboc Local Government Unit (LGU) for donating our first batch of seedlings to Isla Eden.
