Every time I see this type of cultivation I am fascinated by their efficiency! But he asked me, how sustainable is it? Where does all that water go that you rinse the vegetables with!? If the pakagin are plastic!? Isn't there too much garbage being generated? In a world that requires more and more biodiversity, are these types of systems really sustainable? These are questions that I ask myself from my ignorance! since they are efficient it is visible! My question is whether in this world we increasingly have to take more care of the environment in which we live because I can't take it anymore! Is this type of system really ecological?

It doesn't have to be seen, necessarily, as a substitute of soil-based production. I work in a production laboratory with a noise of the same nature, that which we hear in the "background", this increases heart disease by 20%, the over secretion of stress hormones causes the formation of atherosclerotic plaques and calcification of your arteries. Stress also causes hormones to withdraw into oneself and morbid thoughts. So this drives you crazy because you no longer perceive your being through your inner noises and at the slightest annoyance you rise to a very high level of anger because to be able to think about solving a problem it requires such energy from you that you have to do it. repeat several times before your thoughts organize themselves. A work environment where you are just a despised cog. Animal abuse begins between humans, let's be lucid.

This is called hydroponics. Growing plants in nutrient rich water instead of soil. There are many different forms of hydroponics, but the one used in this video is named Nutrient Film Technique. Sorry, working in this industry...it's not NFT... a nutrient FILM technique is about applying an (usually, though depending on the crop what kind of) intermittent flow of water through a channel to apply a film thin layer of nutrients to the crop's roots. This is just floating... the raft part is optional in the phrasing. More often it's referred to as a deep water culture or technique as... well it's a deep water bassin in which the roots are growing. There are many disadvantages in using this technique and often used by new firms and marketing strong companies who don't fully understand the downsides but as it's easy to build... they build it. The only current being developed system with a DWT approach still refreshes the water at high intervals and optimizes the roots development. NFT has climate benefits and allows for more efficient water usage over DWT as well as reducing the risk of diseases in the water itself (from stagnation). As for the rest... Vertical Farming is a marketing craze that has potential applications, lettuce... is not one of them. Lettuce in a VF is not cost beneficial without either electricity surplus or secondary income to compensate for the loss. Lettuce is the one crop everybody uses to 'showcase' but simply doesn't hold proper numbers compared to the alternatives. So... Guess someone should investigate a new project in Korea if they got this viable!
