Fem Van Empel, she's playing with multiple worldchampions in cyvlocross, Marianne Vos and Lucinda Brand. Only a Bit behind are Shirin Van Anroy and Puck Pieterse. All three could already have the same impact on road as Wout Van Aert, Matthieu Van der Poel and Tom Pidcock

Another brilliant video Dan. Racing is so exciting right now and the super talents keep coming! Pogacar won Tour de l'avenir in 2018. Vingegaard came in 41.34 minutes later in 67th place. We've had one hit wonders in the tour before. Think about that.
@Knud4512 жыл бұрын
As a Dane I can vouch for Vingegaard not being a one hit wonder 😉
@stineagerbk92342 жыл бұрын
The fact that people develop physically at very different rates is for bizarre reasons still a forgettable fact to many. So a 21 yr old Vingegaard (summer/autumn 2018) not performing in l'avenir while not being a full-time or WT pro, is hardly proof of that much in either direction. And seriously, anyone who've raced as teens will have memories of those riders who won everything due to earlier development/physical size/geography of races, then plateaued when people started catching up or the race type got more varied/specialised... people develop, circumstances change, and it's all pretty undramatically normal even in outlier groups like here. Plus the list of bright young boy wonders that shone brightly at 18-22 yr old but burned out is probably still longer than the list of the ones who made it big.

I enjoy this type of program but when you are introducing relatively NEW names (or data), in addition to just speaking it would also be very helpful to put it briefly in text form on the screen. Also providing the country of origin or other relevant information might be useful. This also might apply to lesser know races and places. Dan is a terrific presenter but when he zips through unfamiliar names it is difficult to grasp what has been said. Remember, the purpose is not only to entertain but to INFORM. (And yes, I am a native English speaker-American). Thanks, you do a good job.

How many of they are GC contenders? I know how much people loves sprints and classics races, but what really did I fell in love with cycling was big mountain stages and GC battles

Archie Ryan technically not a neo-pro yet as he's still in the Jumbo Visma Development squad. Lennert Van Eetvelt could be a breakthrough star being one of the few climbers for Lotto this year and most likely having a free role wherever he starts.

Interesting. I see this in the music industry (stay with me). There seems to be a business model in that world based on intensive investment (ie hype) around a new artist who is ‘the one to watch ‘ and is everywhere for12 months. Then, the following year it’s a new ‘one to watch’. It’s all front loaded. They keep the interest going and they keep you spending your money. There is no need for long term investment or talent development. To say someone is branded as the new Remco Evenepol says it all. I still haven’t learned to spell his name and he’s being replaced by a young pretender. I don’t like it. Having a brand new wunderkind win grand tours every year may be good for sponsors but it’s dull for the sport. No more heroes anymore, just flash in the pans.
@paulbradford64752 жыл бұрын
Good points. Cycling is an enterprise where the "product" must be trained and promoted as early as possible in order to make a profit.
@MDP17022 жыл бұрын
The reason Cian uijtdebroeks was called the new Remco was that a trainer that trained both said that Cian had done some better numbers than Remco at the same age. Which numbers and by how much wasn't said I think, could just be more explosive (which isn't special vs Remco) or on shorter timeframes (like sub 20'), which isn't necessarily special. If it is in the longer (30'+) category it can be promising. Ofcourse this statement was jumped on by the press as they do so often. He doesn't really have a great ITT, said so by himself. It is decent or even good for a GC rider, but nothing like the top level Remco can do, which is one of the main advantages Remco has both during ITT's in GC and to do his long solo's. So even if he is slightly better at climbing (which isn't certain), he won't be as good as Remco as a general rider imo. Obviously teams and press always are trying to look for the next 'big thing'.
