The British Isles cycle tour continues - en route to a movie date at the most remote cinema in Britain! In this episode of the bicycle adventure, We cycled up the West coast of Wales to Snowdonia, or Eryri in Welsh. We stopped in Newquay for some dolphin watching, and cycled on to Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, and then Snowdonia. Travelling by bike through Wales continued to test us with, more punctures and some gruelling hills. But as we bike toured through the Welsh countryside, we were amazed by the kindness of strangers we continued to meet on our journey, who welcomed us into their homes and showed us incredible hospitality.
2023 Update: These cycle touring videos were filmed back in 2021. As of 2023 Jill and I are no longer together and Jill is not affiliated with this channel in any way. Wishing her all the best for the future!

Wow, I’am impressed by those folks who grew their own food in their retirement, even bees.

This is an area I'm very familiar with but haven't seen for some time. When I visited New Quay I had hoped to see the dolphins from the shore as I didn't fancy the boat trip but no luck, so it was lovely to see them in your video. Great video, thank you 😊

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! It's a beautiful part of the coast, and it was amazing to see the dolphins. We did actually end up spotting some from the coast on this trip, but not until we made it to Northern Ireland.

Snowdonia sounds like it should be in Norway, Sweden or Denmark.

Loving your videos guys! I'm organizing to go in September! Can you give me some tips of where I can learn more about this bike repairs? How did you learn this things?

Thank you, so glad you're enjoying them 😁 Good luck on your trip! Where are you headed? To be honest, neither of us knew much about bike repair before we left. We had a crash course for a few hours with a neighbour who is a bike mechanic, but other than that I've tended to rely on KZbin tutorials haha. I would try and find a bike mechanic who can teach you some of the basics, like puncture repairs, truing a wheel, sorting out gear cables, etc. But some of it you'll end up learning on the road.

That’s not ‘Snowdonia’. There is no such place. That is Eryri.

Wow, really?! I am of Indian heritage and the Indian tourist board calls the area Snowdonia and the mountain Snowdon, just like 14 other tourist boards (including Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Indonesia...) It relates to what the majority call things- relative to official listing and historic records. Eryri means simply 'highland', in the oldest of Welsh language, and refers to the mountain region of unnamed baron wilderness. The mountain itself wasn't named officially until the Anglo Saxons named it 'Snow Hill' and the region then officially became Snowdonia for mapping purposes. It's only recently (with the rise of WOKE Nationalism) that the place name became an issue. It's so insular. Why go in so abruptly on people when they mention something that has stood for years?; This is a great video and great channel, and you blight their story with a non- sensical argument over place names. Serve the world my friend and not some little insular-nationalist narrative. That's how Indians feel. My family have travelled there many times and have called it Snowdonia. Come now my friend! It's Snowdonia /Snowdon first, and Eryri second (as a local reference of also-ness). Just like Niagara Falls or Blue Ridge Mountains or Everest and so on. Tourists relate to the sensible opinion- every time. Where ever!🙏🇮🇳

@@timdodds-uu7fp it is Eryri and Yr Wyddfa first. The first language of the area is Welsh and those names have been in use for far longer.

@@CymruEmergencyResponder Absolutely correct my friend. I believe- 4000 years of Welsh language in the making?- but that I'm not disputing, that is not my point मेरा दृष्टिकोण. I am saying that a video- a great video, about cycling/travelling, should not be blighted by local name calling issues. Please, look at it from this point. The great Welsh area we talk of is known as Snowdonia/Snowdon first or Eryri (which I agree is the old Welsh language name). If someone calls it Eryri then great news. But if someone calls it Snowdonia - let them call it Snowdonia! It's still the officially recognised name for MOST tourists, so come on my friend. Love and Peace. 🙏🇮🇳

@@timdodds-uu7fp You don’t understand what this is about. For millennia our culture and language have been subjected to forced attempts at eradication by the English. It was illegal to speak our own language in our own country. Welsh places had their names taken away in order to be replaced by English ones. And it is still happening to this day. This is about undoing the deliberate cultural damage that has been done by the colonising English. Exactly the same reason why Ayers Rock is now called by its native name of Uluru. It is about making a positive change to undo the damage of the past. The only reason people call Eryri ‘Snowdonia’ is because they don’t know that it is called Eryri…which is exactly why I comment and inform them. The whole point of tourism is to visit places, experience the culture and to learn.
