CYCLING UP A VOLCANO, TWICE!

EPISODE #70
Cycling up Mount Teide is top of most cyclists list when visiting Tenerife and in this video you'll see why! Not only are the views some of the most beautiful and dramatic I've layed eyes on, but how often do you get to say you've ridden up hill for 25 miles (40km).
All the way up you are surroundede by incredible and ever changing scenery, then once at the top the magestic baron landscape, much like the surface of mars... quite literally is mind blowing!
If the Volcano is something on your cycling bucket list, I urge you to get out to Tenerife and take on this monsterous climb... it was honestly one of the most incredible (yet very gruelling) days out on the bike I've had, period.
Oh and I've forgot to mention, Me being me... I couldn't just be satified with the one ascent! NO! I decided make this a proper day out...
The route starts in the North of the island in a town called Puerto De La Cruz, climbs up Teide before descending down towards the south of the island to Los Cristianos. I then turn myself arounf and head back the way I come, taking on this beast of a climb twice in one day. Ouch!

lordy. I did it once three days in a row. The best was the back road from Playa de Americas. The T563. Much quieter to suffer on. The descents are mad. I remember cycling down and going through the cloud cover freezing to death and then heating up as I went down. Best descent and the most boring climb route (I avoided it) is the T38 as there is only two corners and the first one can be taken at full pace. If I go again I'll use the bike shop, they transport you past the horrible coast roads so you do the wonderful bits of Tiede and the west coast. Great place. I want to do the other islands as well.

lol i have climbed mountain first time in my life last year in switzerland last year, and i gotta say forget everything about avg speed when climbing up the mountain, just enjoy the view. Because i got my hard cramp lesson first day :( and second day was more enjoyable and fun when i just went with the feeling instead checking my speed.
