You have phenomenal support to have someone follow you in the car for 10 hours. Well done that support person and great effort on the ride too.

Your'e lucky to have access to all that gravel in NZ. As a kiwi living in Sydney we struggle for any decent gravel around here. See you in Emporia in June.

That sure looks like an awesome area to spend a couple of days on a gravel bike.

Wow, that route is spectacular! Man, why don’t you guys make an event of it? That beats mucking about on the mud in Kansas anyway mate! Come on, put the Kiwi’s onto the gravel map! People would go nuts on that course… listen with all those water crossing you know you actually indirectly training for “The Rift”! Otherwise lovely mixture of terrain. Pure Gold right in your backyard! My only suggestion is give this mtb one by a skip, it’s not practical, in an event with unknown elements why would any rider limit there gearing? This not the 1800’s, we’ve developed two rings up front for a reason and plus I think the 1 by gives you a lot of resistance that your chain doesn’t need on dirt. My opinion of course but yeah try it and see if it works. A front derailleur is a thing of beauty, it gracefully does a better job than the rear. 😅 Anyways lovely ride, thanks for taking me along… I just took a little strain on that nasty climb but thank goodness I only Had to walk to my fridge to refresh and finish watching you weave and grind! 🤭 Keep pedalling. 👍🏻

I'd seriously consider going 2x for Unbound. A big ring is going to be a lot more efficient for 85% of the race.
