Just seen this and wanted to say - the rear brake caliper is only positioned like that on the smaller frame sizes - on the larger frame sizes it’s down on the chain stay in the normal position.

Maybe you can help me out. On that bike, does the headset / stem spacer move freely on your build or is it fixed? Mine turnes with the handlebar and I am not sure if that is correct. I hope you see that comment even though the video is 1 year old!

As a former big bike shop owner I recommend increasing signage for the coffee shop, traffic begot traffic to the shop. Think about a custom one-off steel frame and carbon repair area.

im willing to bet the new frame is not just NOT LIGHTER but actually heavier. trek lies on every single component and frame weight by 15%+

Yo actualice con un manillar integrado roval 420 mm por 100 y un sillín largo fizik antares R1 , y quedó más aero , más adelante le pondré un par de ruedas carbono DT swiss de 38 mm perfil .y con esas me jubilo …

The di2 wire at the rear deraileur is a bad joke. Havent seen a heavier more ugly bike than this in a long time. The gen 7 was a gorgeous weapon. This thing is dead on arrival.

same design for SLR gen 8?

Did they forget the TREK logo or is this cost & weight savings😅 the rear derailleur cable seems under tension, but other than that a nice ride...
@LAURENTMARTORELLАй бұрын
The logo is actually at the bottom near the bottom bracket. Granted the logo is way too small so unusual from Trek

I don't buy that it's more aero without some kind of indepedent aero tunnel testing. I think they were able to make the claims that it is "just as aero" as the previous madone because of the water bottles that fill in the bottom section of the main triangle of the frame. That being said, I bet if you got some aero bottles on the gen 7 madone it would likely be more aero. I think this is more of a bussiness move to avoid having so many different frames to produce, and the marketing team needed to find a way to make it seem like a good choice. They also used to charge $3400 CAD for the emonda SL5 and now the Madone SL5 is $4800. $1400 extra for what? A speed hole and arguably more aero tubing that might acount for 5 watts at like 45km/h? Again, I'd like to see some proper aero testing but this just seems like a marketing scheme to improve bussiness.

Exactly, Trek is going to whine how sales are down but do this
@oliverjacobs8594Ай бұрын
Totally agree about them only doing this to reduce SKU's, but assuming its even reasonably fast it should still be at least a 10 watt improvement on the Emonda. Tour tested the 2023 Emonda at 222 and the 2023 Madone at 207. Assuming the new Madone is 210ish (a little slower than SL8 and RCR) it should still be a decent savings. Honestly given how slow the Madone is compared to other aero bikes maybe it's a good thing trek is giving up on full on aero.

I can’t Stand that they put the di2 wire in the rear in the middle of the chain stay. For that reason alone i wont buy this bike

Thanks for the video. It is worth pointing out that the Checkpoint sl6 2023 model I just purchased has Rival asx not Apex, and has a single 40 T upfront with a 10-44 12 speed cassette.

Apex not Rival is bottom tier. Rival is comparable to Shimano 105

Good effort mate but sadly have been wondering what’s been happening with all of the DNF lately… Even with the Taupo gravel grind. It’s sad that you did not do the preparation with regards to hydration, nutrition and acclimatisation as well. Even then, this was your longest recorded ride on Strava and I thought you would have done more training before attempting such an event . Understandably you have the shop to manage etc, but if you are spending that much money to fly there, it definitely is worthwhile to be well prepared . I would recommend Jaselikesbikes with regards to his preparation for the Leadville .

Nice ride mate! This was my first unbound too, so I took the fatbike. Looking at your splits, you were going pretty fast out there. Do you think you cooked it going too hard? I was alone and wanted to quit but had no support, so I just kept soft pedaling and ended up making it. Your breathing issue sounds scary for a young bloke, did you get it checked out back in NZ? It is awesome that you got to ride unbound though. The heat didn't look bad on the thermometer, but it really felt hot out there.

Kudos for doing unbound. You have to have balls just to even try that monster of a race. You actually did pretty good and I think it was smart to stop when you started getting chest pains can you imagine just dropping dead out there? Do it again but next time bring food and you’ll be golden.

Great effort Tom despite the reality check. You did what a lot of people could only think about doing. This video sets itself apart from most others in that as viewer, we can enjoy it as "there's one of us giving it a crack" - making it relevant for those that either just enjoy gravel riding or compete in gravel races or just challenging ourselves. Despite your personal disappointment you can be very proud of what you actually achieved.
