Cyclone Oma - Behind The Scenes

Oma has to be one of the best swell events in the last two or three decades. Waves for a solid week, pumping Kirra, perfect Noosa,16 second periods at five and six metres. Currumbin Alley was as big as it's even been. Check out behind the scenes with some of the most barrelled men during the epic run of waves.

I remember one time when I was up visiting my sister ( using her for her place near dbah) , I didn’t want to get amongst the crowds, so I did a bit of a trek about 40 mins south and boy did I hit the jackpot. I was the only guy out for about 5 hours straight with perfect runners. Sometimes shit just goes your way, and that was my day. The next guy to come out said he was watching for an hour or so before he came out as he was enjoying the show. Haha. Yeah baby. Crushing it.

Aside from the crowd, the worst thing about Kirra is the current but the pros wouldn't know cos they just hop on a ski and get a lift back to the prime take off zone.

Having grown up on the gold coast points, when kirra used to be proper kirra back in the 90s the current was shocking but it was good as it would keep the crowds down. Even the pros had to do the run around, these days gets over 6 foot and the wankers on skis are out wrecking it for those who use paddle power.
