Yep, got quoted £400 to change the front passenger seat belt, got a decent one from a breakers for less than £30 and fitted in less than an hour. Front discs and pads less than £40 fitted, oil and filter service less than £30, another £20 for air filter and pollen filter.

I believe it is the same engine and gear box as a 2012 Toyota yaris 1litre 3 cylinder. Am I right in saying it takes 1.7 litres of gear box oil?
@JLyck3 жыл бұрын
It might be a stupid question, but I will ask it anyway. What are the reasons for changing gearbox oil? What would happen if I didn’t had the oil changed?
@CycloneCyd3 жыл бұрын
There are no such thing as a dumb question. Asking questions is how we learn. The oil degrades over time and with use. It's ability to lubricate, cool and protect (gears bearings seals) reduces. The manufacturer has determined an average lifetime of around 150k with no further action. Refreshing the oil occasionally can extend the box life massively
@JLyck3 жыл бұрын
@@CycloneCyd I was wondering how a gear box with old oil behaved? You mention that it protects the gear bearing seal. How would an unlubricated seal behave in a car? Will I have difficulties shifting gears or something similar?Thanks.
@CycloneCyd3 жыл бұрын
@@JLyck noise, difficult shifts, leaks, economy loss and eventually complete failure of some sort. My son's Polo suffered a seized box at just 96k miles having never had an oil change. Average 'life' being 150k means 1/3 to 1/2 of all boxes will suffer early life failure before this. If you do nothing, you might be lucky or you might be unlucky.There is no way to predict which. Changing the oil is not a guarantee of long life, but it does stack the odds in your favour instead of against you. Oil is cheap - a 'box rebuild is not.

I'm a little confused about the M18 size for the fill and drain plugs you recommend: the wrench size is 24 mm, so shouldn't be M16 size for the plug ?
@mikhaillindan90912 жыл бұрын
Thanks, if you had the car level (just for ectra safety) would the drain plug still drain fully and would fill plug still fill (fully)? Is having the right sideof the vehicle higher strictly necessary? thanks

How mentioned dropping the car down the check the level of the oil is correct but didn't say how to check it. Can you please explain this? Is it just that if its overfilled that it will spill out of the fill hole? Can you even overfill this?
@CycloneCyd2 жыл бұрын
The fill hole is also the level hole. When the level in the 'box is correct you should just be able to discern oil on the threads of the hole. Any excess will drain back out from the fill hole.

Thanks for this Is one litre of oil enough?
@CycloneCyd3 жыл бұрын
NO, absolutely not. The capacity is 1.7 litres, you should not run the box with a severe shortage of oil. Oil is important for lubrication of bearings and cooling of gear teeth (the contact between any two gears is a few mm^2 only.

YES. my hose is 18mm OD and was a snug fit so had to be pushed in firmly. Hence recommending 16mm OD if you are buying a piece especially.
