Brilliant video Cyd, I followed this tonight to replace the alternator on my 2004 1.2 Polo. The used alternator I got from my local breakers yard was from a 2006 1.2 Polo and didn’t have the threads to fit the heat shield bracket so I have left this part off - thankfully it doesn’t seem important. Really pleased with my £30 fix 😊 Thanks again and please keep the videos coming

Cyd! You've saved the day. A few differences between the 9n 2003 you own and my 2004 9n but we got around them. If it wasnt for your video my car would still be sat on the drive dead as a doorpost. Thanks for the video.. the biggest job before this was changing a wheel. But just replaced an alternator for £37 and a T50 torx ( about a fiver) saved hundreds. Thanks Btw.. I found easier to go under the car to get to the 8mm nut on the tread to the heat shield..

first of all thank you for your video. I removed the 8mm nut that holds the "catalyc Shield" but I can't move it like you to make space for me. does this shield only hold with this 8 mm nut? We don’t see on your vidéo how you we do not see in your video how you were able to move it back so much, thank you for your clarification, if necessary i can sens you pictures or vidéo of my problem :)

We don't have the car anymore, but I seem to remember it having some kind of relay/resistor pack on the fan cowl. Don't take that as gospel though!

It's probably fallen down on to your undertray. Give the tray a few bangs and it should roll down onto the floor.

I found this video.. my dashboard showed me Alternator Workshops and the car was on a hill acceleration...the battery popped out and I heard a lot of shot circuiting noises in the engine area...is the alternator the problem

Highly likely, but look for damaged wires and loose connections too
