Thank YOU!! You went to have a look, see! Thank you, so much for your positive feedback. Capri leggings are currently not available for me, seeing as I have not had enough sales. I will definitely add them though as soon as I have that 'level', I love them and want some for myself. I just added Cousin It items... not all the range, but to see what people would like and then make that available for them. 🌸

Please don't apologize for replying late to my comment. I'm stoked you reply. Thanks for interacting with your subscribers 💚💝🏵 it is so great to ask a question or leave a random comment and actually have a response. I understand some channels are too big to respond to everyone, but thats kinda why i like the smaller channels and the people are more down to earth. I love your content it is very informative and entertaining too. Thank you Nina! I have never watched more KZbin than during this quarantine awfulness. There is some good to come out of it though. I have more time for my kids and my 'chids. Keep the videos coming 😀

I have a list, since day one, on which I keep track of everyone who has been around through the bumps, the early days, the bad quality videos.... etc, IF I were ever to be so 'lucky' to get to a size that all comments cannot be answered, this list that I am currently cultivating, everyone on that list, will never be swallowed up by whatever size my channel may be. I would really like to grow, so that I can afford to do more stuff for everyone, but for now I cannot do anything extravagant... small steps... and hopefully the rest will come. One thing I can assure everyone that has been so kind and supportive of my channel.... my list, is my reminder, and we will always be in touch! I so appreciate this interaction and I am loyal to everyone who supported the channel and helped me progress... I owe you! You make my day brighter! If it wasn't for the pandemic, this channel would probably still be a pipe dream, but... yeah... when the cooties happened, I needed to study this platform hard and fast, editing etc as well... I am glad for the brain food, though, I would have gone mad if it wasn't for that and everyone who has been so kind and supportive! Thank you, Darcy!! 🌸

FFF!! 🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️🙌🏼😍💐 I was relieved about not having to fight this one to get it out!! I was surprised to see the spike fail, considering that it grew 3 large bulbs the past season 🤷🏼‍♀️ oh well, better luck next time, huh!? The only downside to using leca, the clean up of the root debris on the leca... I have started to clean that little batch up by picking out the clean and scrubbing some of the other ones, but I cannot do it in one go .... Golf Green taught me a lesson with regards to raw left thumb 😬 But yes... the PET method, too much material too much waste and too much mess... I am ok... I am feeling a bit 'out of body' but otherwise ok. Had a busy morning, using the sun we had this am to get some filming done... but now, it is YT housekeeping and editing time until I am done 🙂 Sorry for the late reply. Trying to use the weather breaks wisely 🤞🏼yesterday, I thought it would be sunny all day, and nope!! Had to move inside 😬 live and learn! I hope YOU are doing well, meine liebe Freundin! Hi Trish! 🤗💐 this one was easy!! I thoroughly enjoyed doing this, I was expecting more resistance but, it was great that it turned out so well. I would love to see the blooms on this one. I was close... it started a spike, and then, I guess I did something and it decided to sulk and aborted the spike, so... now I have to figure out what I did, and not repeat that mistake. It is possible that when I had to move it inside, it did not like it. 🤔 Thank you so much for watching and your positive feedback! 🌸

Hi Nina...as I was repotting my Cycnoches Jumbo Puff I was watching you repot your Cycnoches...timing is everything in life. One of my bulbs was rotted at the bottom so I cleaned it as best as I could and dosed it with dragon blood. Of course that was the bulb with a new growth starting up near the top. Hopefully the growth will progress enough to get roots into the pot but I don't think there will be any flowers. The other bulb looks good but no sign of a growth yet. Fingers crossed. Brightest Blessings. Elaine.

Hey chica! 🤗💐 I hate having all the papery stuff that stays on the bulbs once the leaves drop, so, when the leaf is just in the process of yellowing and its a gonner anyway, I take it off, and remove the membrane around the bulb while there is still a little 'life in it'... they come of real easy that way. But, I have to be super careful with regards to light doing this. The skin is a protection from burning, so... its one or the other. I am going to have to be very cautious when it is time to get them outside to make sure that I don't risk burning them. I am just a sucker for messing with the orchids when I have reason to do so, so, I really take my time. And yes, it is much easier to remove all the roots, but I have a problem with chopping off viable roots... I struggle having to do it when I split an orchid, and then there are circumstances where you have to do it, to get ahead, or, when I break them unintentionally! 😬 so.. with these guys, if I have viable roots, I try to keep them somewhat in tact. I like to think it helps the orchid to not have to use all the energy from the bulbs to get going with new growths. I have no proof, but I like the thought 😬Covid pastime... yep... been doing a lot of that this past year as well. Thank you so much for watching, Nicole! Te deseo un viernes fenomenal! 🌸

Hi Nina! I just got my first catasetum and was stressed on repotting, your videos are always so helpful and informative, thank you! Also, I was wondering if you had ever tried this method of sterilizing Leca...I saw it on a website but won’t link it because I don’t know if it will be considered spam but I will copy and paste.. Good news! You can sterilize and reuse the growing media by treating it with a 10% bleach/water solution, then rinsing well. *A really easy labor-saving method for sterilizing: leave the medium in the pots. Take them outside, drench them with the bleach solution. Flush gently but thoroughly with clean water. Leave them outside to drain and dry out.
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel 🤗💐 congrats on your first 🤩 i never use bleach on my leca... leca is so different in its porosity that I do not trust the rinsing with water ... when is everything rinsed fully? The little ones don't absorb as much as the big ones... etc... there are no guarantees that a) bleach will sterilise the interior of all leca because of size differences b) no guarantee that all bleach will be removed by rinsing gently or vigorously & eventually release into the pot ... I only ever boil! Boiling guarantees that heat will penetrate through the leca no matter what size and for that to happen, I boil 10 mins for a small batch and almost 30 mins for a massive pot, stirring regularly so that its not cooler on the surface than at the base. I appreciate your feedback on my videos! That really helps me to know that what I'm talking about is of interest and helps. Thank you for not posting a link... you are right.. it would gave gone to spam and I would not have seen it soon enough.even if I check that section, comments with links take days to appear. Let me know if you are comfortable with my response, or if you have anymore questions 👍🏼 🌸

@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids 3 жыл бұрын
👏🏼👏🏼 you are very welcome!! Thank YOU for your support on my channel! That means so very very much! BTW.... just another additional thought... when you have the leca cooling, handle it as hot as you can to rinse out the dirty water, and fill it into a bucket with cold water, clean water, as clean as you can get it, ie, as little TDS in it as possible. While they are still hot and you rinse the dirty water off, and pour them into cold water, the dirty minerals that have leached during the boil will not get back into the leca as it cools. Like blanching vegetables. After the rinse, shocking them with cold water will 'close' what pores can close and remain cleaner. I don't know what your water TDS is, but, the cleaner the water is, the better. Then check the TDS daily to see if the leca is still leaching minerals. If that is the case, then change the water daily until you get a steady low reading. I am of the opinion that the leca should always be stored wet submerged in clean water, so that dust etc doesn't start to 'dirty' it up again.
@ancientorchids
@ancientorchids 3 жыл бұрын
@@NinjaOrchids oh yes that’s perfect! I had bought me one of those megahome water distillers for my green babies lol..it produces water at a TDS of 1 or 2 usually and removes all chlorine so I will follow that, thank you!!

Hi Nina, what is the difference between "self watering leca setup " and S/H and why is it a desirable way for growing a catasetum ? Thanks for this interesting video.
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre 🤗💐 the self watering with the micro fibre seems to help with all kinds of wicking as opposed to semi hydro. Semi hydro is a drier version, in my opinion. I use SH for dendrobiums a lot, those that have fine roots and where I can keep the set up a little drier but not dry, if that makes sense. Whereas self watering.. the access to water is constant because of the micro fibre. Depending on which orchid I am dealing with and what time of year, I can tweak that as well, but as a rule, SH is a drier way of growing. Catasetums are super thirsty once they get going / growing... in my dry climate, if i were to use SH only, I would need a big pot, and a very large reservoir to keep the watering needs of catasetinae in par with their growth and this makes it much easier for me to keep up. A bigger pot changes the dimension ratio of what the orchid requires every single day when it is in full growth, and would be bigger than the orchid itself, making it look a little silly. This self watering is great for my climate because I can keep it in a sensibly sized pot, and keep that reservoir filled without wasting too much water to pour through a pot to fill an SH reservoir. Also, I can water from below, not risking new growths when needed. I can start the watering process a little sooner, to encourage roots to go down to search out the moisture. With SH, there is no water from below to fill the reservoir, unless you were to submerge the pot to above the holes, in water. It is a little cumbersome to do that. I have done it before with other orchids that were weak, but with catasetinae .... when it's go time, self watering is the way to go. In my opinion 😬 I hope I made sense and could break down the difference / pros / cons down well enough. Let me know! Thank you so much for watching, Andre 🤗🌸

Holy moly that seems like a lot of slow release, but your potting into a much larger pot than I use (I squeeze them in tight). But, I give two applications, once at the start of the season and a second around the middle of July. Now those are some fatty fat bulbs on that one. I really like that hybrid but it isn't common here (I don't think anyone is importing from Jumbo Orchids). I'm dying waiting for May to get here when Fred Clarke releases his new list of Catasetinae and see if there's anything I want. BTW, every one I have is waking up except for the ones with tigrinum in them. I guess that species makes them start later because there are four and none of them are doing anything, so annoying.
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids 3 жыл бұрын
Don Miguel! 😍💐 I thought so as well, when I was distributing the scoop.... it did appear to be quite a lot, but, my calculation before starting to film was correct... there are 3 new bulbs from last year, so, it has doubled within one year ... if those 3 new growths chuck out another growth each, possibly a 4th, then, this pot will be depleted within the season. We shall see... time will tell if it is too much 😬 Fred Clarke is the catasetinae candy shop like no other. I would have more if I had access to his stash here in Europe. But I am not buying them online anymore... I had such bad experiences with paying good money for crappy little back bulbs! Hapana! Still no news from Floralia and no, I have not been in thouch with them either. Just adding that on, because there is a catasetum in that order. We wait.... if fate wants it to be, they will get in touch with an invoice! Thank you so very much for taking the time to watch, Michael! I hope that you are having a superb day! @@NinjaOrchids It has only been what, a month, since you placed the Floralia order? You can't rush them in Brazil, they work on a _very_ different time schedule than the rest of the world. Even "island time" is faster. tortile is almost fully opened and is quite a nice display. I didn't realize that the buds open so strangely, the petals and sepals are brown and totally recurved and then lighten to purple and start to twist out over a couple of days. I was in a panic when the first ones opened, I thought I had the wrong plant.

I have to go to Brazil then... Spain is notorious for 'mañana' and this cooties situation has slowed me down beyond that... maybe Brazil is my kind of place if that is the pace they roll at! Enjoy the tortile... I am only just seeing some buds on mine. Like little pickled caper berries... I think that is what they are called! Not capers but similar with a stem and a little elongated in shape. That is what they remind me of anyways! I love the petals of the tortile!! 😍
