Explanations from Cycplus to the issues of the T2 bike trainer: 1. To the data and resistance: 1) As you can see, we have sent four trainers in a row, and each one is getting better, and we do not give up on improving product quality to better meet customer obesessions. 2) We keep researching and developing the program. And we had released the latest firmware version on our CYCPLUS app. By completing an update, the resistance and data will be more accurate. 3) We are aware that we still have a lot of disadvantages, however, I assure that we are making products in a strict standard of process and we will treat and solve any problems seriously. 2. To the weired phenomenon: 1) The low-voltage and low-frequency charge leakage are harmless to people, and this kind of power leakage is quite common. See: discussions.apple.com/thread/250613526 2) Tacx's and Wahoos trainers can also light up the LED, which is proven after a lot of real tests. Links to the videos of Tacx's and Wahoos trainers showing the same phenomenon pasted below. 3) Cycplus T2 smart bike trainer has gone through the EMC test, in line with the EU standards. We also passed the KC certification in Korea which is thought to be the strictest wireless certification. 4) The touch failure on the bike computer is a low probability problem. Australia's dry winter air may accelerate the exposure of the problem. In addition to the product itself, this problem is also related to the office circuit design situation. For example, the ground of the power supply is not connected to the earth, or there is a wire passing under the bike. 5) We do not use inferior chargers. T2 uses the Mean Well(from Taiwan) power supply, which is the same as Garmin and complies with all safety regulations. This power supply costs more than the power supplies used by Wahoo, Kickr, and Magee. 6) We've done a lot of experiments to reproduce the touch failure phenomenon, and at the same time and the power-supply supplier (same as NEO) together to analyze and optimize the program. We have developed a solution to reduce the amount of charge- discharge and the touch failure on the bike computer will be completely avoided. 3. To the rust in the inner shaft hole: 1) There was a lot of water vapor generated during the production of the foam box inside the packing box, and there was some water vapor residue in the foam, a cause of the rust. 2) And summer in our city Chengdu(southwest of China) is very humid. The transportation from Chengdu to Australia takes more than 2 weeks, thus the water vapor was sealed inside the carton for a long period of time, another cause. 3) Before shipping the sample unit to Shane, we already unboxed it once and had done some tests on it. That is to say, during our tests on the trainer, there maybe some wears and tears which caused damages to the plating, resulting in the rust. 4) Additionally, the shaft hole of the motor has plating actually. But the inner hole is not easy to plate concerning the shape of the shaft, thus the plating layer will be thin and easy to be rusted. 5) Actions to be taken to improve and prevent rust: a) Improve the plating and coating process, specifically the inner hole. We will separately plate the shaft hole of the motor to ensure that the thickness of its plating reaches the corresponding rust prevention level. b) Strict salt spray tests are conducted to ensure the rust resistance of the product. c) Add air dehumidification equipment to improve the packaging environment and ensure that the products are packaged dry. Desiccant is placed in the subsequent product packaging boxes. 4. Introduction to Our Cycplus team and mission Cycplus is made up of a lot of young and enthusiastic people. For the love of biking, we integrate into Cycplus family. Our brand 'Cycplus' was trademarked and founded by Steven Zhou and his classmates in his junior of the university. At that time, they were only 21 years old. Furthermore, most of Cycplus members including the CEO are post-90s. We are avid about cycling, we are energetic, and we are innovative. that’s wild. This looks to be an Electromagnetic Compatibility issue (known as EMC in the industry, but there is also overlap with EMI). There are strict regulations that products need to comply with a variety of standards to stop this very issue from occurring so the product doesn't meet the AS/NZ 61000 standards (or equiv FCC standards). Given that the previous product didn't have this issue is strange, so I wonder if the power pack if faulty, or an issue with the filtering on the trainer. I would try a different power supply to see if it resolves the issue as there are cheap/bad ones in the marketplace, unfortunately. Also try and listen to a weak AM radio station which I expect to have severe interference issues with. Completely understand your frustration - this is best solved by going for a 2 hour ride outdoors 🙂

I'm one of the few Indiegogo backers and I got my T2 back in March. I also had the constant virtual tire slip issue, but it got fixed in a firmware update. Haven't had any of the other issues you mentioned, but perhaps I should go check with a multimeter 😅 When going up steep hills it does still feel kind of "slippery", and when going fast downhill it sort of "stutters" (no idea how to explain it). This is the only home trainer I've ever tried, so I don't know how it compares to others in its price range - it was only $600 after all. Oh well, luckily it's working alright for me and I knew it was a gamble buying a product like that, but it's good enough for me.
@gplama2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t get to talk much about the ride experience… which was on the cards if this thing didn’t turn my bike into a live wire. The stuttering is the neodymium magnets and their orientation in the flywheel. The Neo had a similar issue that was resolved with placing the magnets at an offset angle.

Interesting result from an Electrical Engineering perspective. Assuming you have an Earth Leakage breaker running (and if not, WTF, get one now!) then there's no leakage current going through ground, so extremely unlikely to be something going on with the mains power (those things are sensitive). That makes the "dangerous" claim a little edgy without actually knowing what's going on. On the bright side, there's no path through your junk that is likely to provide a closed circuit before some other body part does so your future fertility isn't too much in jeopardy. :) I wonder if there's something that builds a static charge from the cycling motion that isn't grounded out, resulting in the "rubbing the feet on carpet" type of thing going on that you were unable to discharge because of rubber/carbon shoes/soles? Earthing out your bike frame would likely resolve the issue, but it seems like something the manufacturer could have easily put in with a grounding path on the flywheel.

TL;DR The issue is likely a substandard switch mode power supply. Most low voltage power supplies are "switch mode" and turn mains AC into high-voltage DC, high frequency AC and then low voltage DC to reduce size (much smaller transformer cores at high frequency) and cost. The output is theoretically isolated from the input due to the HF transformer, but some designs (with a 3-wire lead) use a coupling capacitor and drain resistor to stop the 0V rail floating. The switching needs careful design to stop radio noise escaping - an AM radio is an effective interference detector. Australian mains sockets are like the UK in that they are 3-wire with a protective earth conductor, likely monitored by an ELCB / GFCI / other local name. Many electrical supplies link "earth" and Neutral so even two-wire "double insulated" devices without a PE connection are still protected should you get a shock of more than (varies internationally) 40mA. Enough to hurt, but much less likely to kill. My Tacx Neo is like this with a reversible two conductor mains lead, so a fully isolated PSU can be supplied at this price point and purpose (it works with the mains input connections either way around so MUST be an isolated output). One issue is when a bad PSU design "floats" up above "ground" PE due to unwanted capacitive coupling or leakage between mains input and outputs. The voltage between you and either of the switch mode PSU outputs can be way above the likely 20ish volt DC design output - likely at low current, but enough to tingle often without tripping a RCD / GFCI / ELCB. This PSU design may also not be properly filtered with HF switching noise likely causing EMI issues with other kit like capacitive touch screen head units. An AM radio may pick up this radio noise and is a standard field test. Either RF interference or stray voltages could be coupled through the bike frame to stop a capacitive touch screen from operating. In short, the PSU is likely below specification - not what you expect from something designed to be in close contact with a sweaty low-resistance human. One for a Big Clive or EEVblog disassembly video perhaps?

Cycplus seems to have shot itself in the foot and given itself a death sentence with this unit. Presenting a rusty, electrically flawed unit to a reviewer as influential as GP Lama is pretty stupid. Just got one last month, due to my Kickr v5 (2020 version? bought at 2021) just don't send power data days before. Actually I am very satisfied with T2, it's just like at least as good as my Kickr V5. And as an engineer, I can say these electric pulse is very very common. All DC electric device with a chip are easy to get some pulse signal at somewhere, just because it's not grounded. I am very eager to see you would try to ground the bike and try it again, but not on your video. Haha. It's perfectly fine for my 1030P mounted on. Anyway...Dude, it's 48V DC power input, whatever it did, it won't cook your balls haha. Anyway pretty happy with my T2 got Nov 2023 maybe just porduced weeks before and ROM is newest out of box. I do have kickr V2(sold because to loud and i always train after 10pm), then Kickr V5, due to V5 stop sending cadance and power data but still sending speed data, not respond to ERG, no resistance at or so cannot even use it as a non-electric trainer. I will stick to this T2 and i don't think i will go back to Kickr.

what is virtual tire slip
@gplama2 жыл бұрын
The resistance reduces and the pedal stroke slips. Like a slipping tyre on a wheel-on trainer. Or riding on wet grass with road tyres and spinning out.
