Cyd over came an almost devastating bout with Polio to become the most beautiful lady and most talented dancer in Hollywood. She is an inspiration to all.

I saw Cyd onstage when I was a kid. She sang well. She actually sounds fine in this clip. I wouldn't expect a girl in a far-north bar to sing like a movie star anyway.

India Adams used to dub for Cyd Charisse for most of the musical films. India declared in an interview that Cyd obviously resented being dubbed. When it was time for India to coach Cyd on the songs she was going to lip synch for camera, Cyd would be testy and cold to India, resenting the fact that India would be the real voice to be heard on screen.

India Adams was the ghost singer for only one Cyd Charisse film, The Band Wagon. Frankly, Adams deep voice doesn't match Charisse's that well. Carol Richards, who dubbed Charisse's later films, is a much better match. Other Charisse ghost singers: 1946 The Harvey Girls - Marion Doenges. 1948 Words and Music - Eileen Wilson 1952 The Wild North - Ruth Martin 1953 The Band Wagon - India Adams 1954 Brigadoon - Carol Richards 1955 It’s Always Fair Weather - Carol Richards 1957 Silk Stockings - Carol Richards

Magnificent movie. Throughout the movie my main concern were the dogs, though.

I believe if MGM worked with her more, she would have been even better. Although not among the most talented, her voice was fine!

Cyd was taller than Fred Astaire, whom she danced with in Daddy Longlegs...but look how short she is next to Stewart Granger!

Yes, not bad at all, though it does sound like she would have been over-taxed by more difficult material. Here's a question: do you happen to know who dubbed her TV variety special in 1959, "Meet Cyd Charisse"? I saw a clip of it at a conference once and I thought it was India Adams, but wasn't certain.

It appears that she never recorded any tracks for her films.

She was so classy, but at the same time Cyd exuded sexuality in a way that was unthinkable back in the 40s
