@@_aaRon84_ I think that's his point--the default direction is forward and the ship never deviates from that.

After playing resogun, it's hard playing the top down shooters, but the effects look very nice in this.

@@2KGame I mean resogun was so fun being able to go up down left and right, that this seems boring now. If you have not tried resogun you have to. Made by the returnal guys.

I agree--horizontal shooters have more room for variety and innovation, especially in terms of level design. Vertical shooters are stronger in terms of complex scoring systems, and for bullet hell-style play, but they're somewhat limited everywhere else. We need more games like Square's underappreciated Einhander--that was the beginning of a new revolution in the shooter genre that, well, never actually happened.

@@jimbotron70 The first shooter was really the first video game--Space War! was an amalgam of both horizontal and vertical styles, being essentially Asteroids with a competitive element.

No, it’s nothing like geometry wars. There’s a lot going on graphically wise on screen for your graphics card to handle it.
