Great reaction. The video quality was Excellent. It really allows you to appreciate the tone and tuning of Neil's drum kit. Absolutely fabulous sound. Its great to see a guy in his 60's still hitting that hard and working his ass off during the solo.

JUST Fantastic! Great find, I have never seen this one! Happy Father's Day, to YOU! This song is pretty rare and they DID relace the middle parts, a bit into a drum solo, nice ad libbing! Neil knew about his brain by this point. HIs kit got a little smaller and better, IMHO. Thanks for the Vid.

Neil’s solo was always around 8-9 minutes until their last two tours. On those two tours he did three shorter solos spread throughout the set instead of one big one. Your should check out Binary Love Theme from the Clockwork Angels tour. Now there’s a musical drum solo!

The favourite part of my drum kit was my rack of rota-toms. I got to semi-pro so I had to buy all my kit rather than being given it by manufacturers otherwise my kit would have been massive. Niel was a musician first, percussionist second and drummer third, and it shows in the way he played so tunefully instead of just smashing the crap out of everything, as you pointed out.

I think you would love his percussion work on Xanadu the Exit Stage Left concert. There’s a remastered version from Stickhits. His drum fills are outrageous and it’s an excellent performance from the whole group. Recording is from 1981 so it’s also interesting to see them all so young.

And it’s really the height of his acoustic kit, before any pads. Man, he had everything: chimes, tubular bells, temple blocks, and you gotta love the real glockenspiel!

Cygnus X-1 (book 1) does have lyrics. This song got me started in amateur astronomy back in the mid 1980s. Then there was book 2 continued on the next album.

This tour he had two kits. The first one was his most recent setup and when they changed sets they were going back in time musically and he thusly changed to an older version of his setup, that’s why his solo isn’t like the other ones (newer) that you mentioned.

I like the way this kit sounded, I think it sounds better than his main kit.

he had alot of electronic parts to his kit, even in the 80s

Another great solo, in a very different setting, is the following from a Buddy Rich tribute concert Neil played in. This is his solo form Cotton Tail with the Buddy Rich Big Band: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ6vi4V3rbiEpZY The full performance is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4WcZGZpjc6Farc Definitely worth checking out. Cheers!

His best solo by far is YYZ 1980 done in Canada.

I like his more recent solos as well, but I couldn’t agree more with you. The YYZ solo from 1980 is my favorite 👍🏻
