@cadw600 Yes, I'm using a modified lathe tool which I can attach various types of inserts into.

The head of my mill is slightly off tram, so I only have to run the front side of the cutter over the head. This is often used in head workshops and I also recommend it to you! The extremely slight U-shape in the deck of the head doesen't do any harm to the sealing.

@dagomachining Around 0,05mm depth of cut and 40mm/min feed.

That is huge step.. Most probably impossible without clearancing pistons for the valves too. Also raising the comp only by lowering the head, poses many other problems like cam belt/chain lenght problems. I think the way to go is lowering the head and cylinder blocks, weld filling the chambers and matching the pistons to all of this. What kind of gas are you planning to run that engine on? Alcohol? Or are you converting it to a diesel ;)?

If there is no damage to the head from gasket failure or corrosion, 0,1-0,2mm is always enough.

so every time u open the head u have to resurface it before getting back everything ? and the maximum u can resurface it is like 1-2mm so u could say maybe 3 or 4 time u can open the head before u have to get a new one right ?

A cylinder head should always be resurfaced before refitting it. The compression rings of the gasket "bite" into the head when the head is torqued. If the head is not resurfaced and the marks of the old gasket are still on, the new gasket won't seal properly. Often just 0,1mm is enough but a maximum of about 1-2mm can be removed.

Wow, that must be the highest inertia fly cutter ever! There is some mass in it, is it home made?

When you do a job like this, is one pass enough? Or do you run the cutter over a few more times (but on the same depth of cut) "just to be sure"? The nearest I have done to this is routing wood with a jig, where you will go over a few times just to be sure, hence my wondering. :-)

Depends on how much you need to remove. The most effective method is to take one heavier roughing pass and then one finishing pass. In practise you usually need to take many light passes cause its often difficult to know how much you need to remove and taking too much is the last thing you want to do.

why do u resurface the head ? and which size ? 1mm or 2mm ? or it depends on the head of which engine ?
