I'm bawling my eyes out during this song. I'm a 30-something year old person who just started working in a Senior Care Community as a caregiver. All the elderly residences are so sweet. On my third shift, an elderly gentlemen who liked to joke around with me told me he was off to visit his wife at another building. She was suffering with Alzheimer's and they haven't seen each other since before christmas because of Covid. He was so excited. Then when I came back, I asked how it went, and while helping him get ready for bed, he couldn't keep his brave face on anymore. He broke down crying saying 'She just smiled at me.'. She didn't remember who he was. He went on talking about how he loved her, she was his life, if she left he wanted to go too all while crying. I couldn't help but tear up and hold him. I can't imagine being elderly, and many of my friends, family, pets, places, associates, all slowly disappearing from me. ...idk, just wanted to say that. Please treat everyone with respect, because we are all hurting and many feel so lonely, but there are those out there who are willing to talk to you and understand.

I am one of these people. I tend to lose myself in relationships. The last one was really bad. I was also dealing with a narcissist though but that one damaged me so deeply. 5 years later and I’m still trying to heal. I’ve remained single. I need and want to learn how to love myself first before I can love another. I often wonder about what love used to be like back in the day…..when people stayed married and stayed together thru the ups and downs in life. That doesn’t seem to exist anymore.
@chaotic.interference.processor Жыл бұрын
@@sari5045 The first verse really hit me. Dealing with a narcissist is the worst. 4 years alone next week for me. After 18 years with her I was left with no friends, no self esteem, a huge empty void in my heart, and hardest of all, questions that will never be answered. Discarded with no discussion and no warning. I thought we had made it. I was so wrong. Sucker punched. I hope that love of which you speak still exists. It's probably just a little harder to find with all the noise in the world. I don't seek it. I seek my self now. Perhaps that love will find me of its own accord. Perhaps it will find you. Keep on keepin' on. You still have you. Peace.

But confidence building at the same time, it’s crazy
it takes a lot of untapped courage to admit to yourself that you have to choose you, and to free your heart from the burden of knowing that you were not chosen by the person you would always choose in a heartbeat is a great form of bravery- much more, to leave no grudge to the person who did not choose you, I think, is the greatest gift you can give yourself. It's hard to admit that we can not amount to the person they need but it is always necessary. There is a great relief that with everything that has been said and done, you can still find it in your heart to be yourself, to choose yourself and to love yourself.

But you'll (and I can assure it) leave it in the past and move on, so when you look back you'll feel the love, but know it was the best to just leave it behind. Maybe you wont stop loving him, maybe you will, but you love yourself in the first place :)
@catherine56846 жыл бұрын
actually, you can never stop loving someone. if you truly loved them. if it was actual love, you cannot. how can your heart forget about something that once made you so happy? it can't. you may find other loves. greater loves, that will lessen the sting of your past heartbreaks, but no, you can never stop loving someone. once you love them. it's there for good.

It's do-able if it's true love. It happened to me. I can; but unfortunately, he can't. Love is unconditional, so it's worth fighting for; but he always gave up whenever things went down without putting a 100% effort in it. In the end, it hurts when i was the only one who's holding at the end of the rope for us. He has a choice, either to move forward for the betterment, or to stay the same. He chose the later. The video is a nice commentary on how in earlier generations - in my generation, in fact - people felt that they were not whole people without a mate. For my own part, I feel like it's a shame it took me til I was in my late fifties to figure that out. Now I'm sixty-four, I'm alone, and I'm reasonably happy. And that brings me to the fact that happiness is vastly overrated - in the sense that in the world today, and this began in my generation, I guess, everyone started chasing this illusion that they could be happy all the time - but that's just not possible. All kinds of things come into our lives: illness, heartache from the loss of loved ones, and it can be possible to attain some kind of superficial happiness "all the time" when you're younger, but as you get older, it's harder and harder to hang onto that kind of happiness all the time, until at last (if you're lucky!) you realize how hollow it is. There is another kind of positivity that one can have, that acknowledges sadness as well as joy, and embraces all that life has to bring, changes what needs to be changed and can be, and accepts what can't, and looks for a greater sense of meaning, in whatever form that sense comes. The ability to be content on one's own is part of that kind of adjustment, and the consequent inner wholeness.

I remembered I first found this song from when I was thinking I would be single forever, and now coming back to it again for strength after losing the love of my life suddenly after a year and a half of being together. 3/18/21. He was 31 and died in his sleep. Life is so unfair. Kaitis was my everything and we thought we would be together our whole lives. Now I must live my life for us both. I love you so much honey. I will never forget you.
@genesismedrano6183 жыл бұрын
wow your comment. I send you my comfort. You see this song from a different lens. And that lens is the lens I'd love for everyone to look through. That although the love of their lives passed away you know you still have you. The strength it took you to come back and make a comment. To share it with us. My heart. My spirit. My soul. I send it over to you. I send you over my love and comfort. You are needed. You are divine. You are a blessing to have come across.

To all ppl struggling in different kinds of abusive relationships, I want to remind u all that u are precious. You love somebody so much and maybe you don’t get what you contributed in the same way in return. But that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve it or your love is not valuable. YOU ARE PRECIOUS. And your ability to love somebody is wonderful. Things just sometimes don’t work out. You still have you, a precious you.

I was at a friend of the familys wedding reception. I was 16 years old. I didn't have a very good home life back then, and I had zero confidence, kind of an ugly duckling and even at such an early age was extremely depressed, hopelessl and very alone. I was dancing by myself just like the old woman in the video and I heard a voice say " Why are you dancing by yourself? Let me cut in." And it was a handsome guy around the same age, with a pretty smile and an earring. I d danced with him and I just laid my head on his shoulder like I knew him forever hahaha*cringe* but it meant so much to me. Afterwards he asked to kiss me and I had my first kiss. I never saw him again but his name was Brandon and I smile wherever I hear that name. Never be afraid to dance alone, because you never know who is out there that will want to cut in.

When my grandmother died my grandfather went down hill. There are times when he improves. But i think it’s still killing him that she isn’t around anymore. They were married 43 years when she died and this year would have been 50 years. The pure love he had and still has for him is beautiful but so heart breaking at the same time.

Skylark it all comes down to everyone being there for him. I’ve lived with my grandfather since i was 6 months old along with my mother and sister. I’m 21 now. He has always had us around for him. I think if we weren’t, he would’ve died a while ago just from heart break alone. Just make sure you spend time with him and that he knows he’s loved no matter what. A relationship with your grandparents and parents are so important and can be so amazing. They have stories that you wouldn’t believe.

best thing you can do for a a widowed person is to say "tell me a story about them". Allow them to reminisce. Stories told are a way of celebrating a lost loved one's worth. There may be a few sentimental tears, but don't allow that to keep you from asking.

I'm going through a hard time now with my relationships and I've decided to have more alone time by myself. I love the title of this song, "I'll Still Have Me". It reminds me that it's okay to be alone or single. I still have someone special, myself. If I can be happy with my own company, I won't depend on others too much for love. If I'm happy on my own, it doesn't matter if people are around me or not, if I many or less friends. People come and go. Those who truly cherish you will stay. So, I'm stopping chasing the love of others.

Recently kinda 'lost' someone really close myself, but one has to follow your last two statements for being happy on his own. I've discovered this a long time ago. One should always focus on themselves, this way you can't get hurt as much. Maybe... some time in the future, there'll be the one, but if not "I'll still have me" and you'll still have you, just remember that :)
