I’ve been watching many of the aviation ground lectures and noticed that you are one of the best instructors there is. Your teaching method is very clear and easy to understand. It’s too bad that it costs so much get a license to fly an airplane ✈️. By the way, I live in Greenwood near the airport where I also have friends that fly air planes. I have flown with my friends several times in the past.

Great material as always from Cyndy. In non-congested airspace I personally find it easier to obtain flight following once I'm in the air, cutting down on unnecessary delays. While en route, I simply contact departure with my VFR request. In congested areas, obtaining flight following while still on the ground get eyes on you right away while simultaneously reducing workload after takeoff. In either case, I always open my flight plan while on the ground.

Your series on XC flight planning is the missing link. Great job. I wish I was close enough to Greenville to finish my PPL with you!

Your videos are so helpful. Thank you for sharing them. I have a question about the return flight back. When you call and let them know you want flight following back to the original airport, do you file a new flight plan or is it the same one just in reverse?

Cyndy....Great job! I didn't watch every single episode of the various Flight Plan documents topics, BUT did you mention where we can obtain the blank, unfilled-in document you used to enter the planning details?

@@brandonsmith7868 Thanks. Don't know anything about a Flight School in Greenland. I found this content on KZbin when searching for navigation insight. Hopefully she will respond and help with a copy of that document.

This was such a nice and clear summary. Student questions: What is the benefit filing/opening a flight plan when you're on flight following (i.e. on radar all the time)? I was wondering if App or Dep take no action if you drop off radar and FSS would start S&R when you don't close. I'll guess you also can be kicked off VFR flight following depending on ATC work load. I am aiming for knowledge test within the next 2 weeks and am deep into this....

ATIS 50 miles away? That's at about 30 minutes at 100mph cruise.. to far. About 10-15 miles, or before you transition TO the local tower. So when told 'contact XYZ tower on 119.1 you would switch to ATIS, listen, (usually have it set up on COM2 so you can simply use the COM panel add COM2 to your headset and listen) then contract tower on COM1 by flipping to the standby. So your initial TOWER contact you will have the latest ATIS. 30 minutes old ATIS you risk having stale ATIs. Remember ATIS is updated every hour or as needed by local conditions.
