The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️

As a player/fan of the original, it’s likely they remade Silent Hill 2 likely because it’s the fan favourite out of all the games and probably would be the most profitable. They did do a remaster of it a while back, it was HD and mostly looked great, but they really toned down a key component to its creepiness and it made the remaster feel a bit of let down for many. This remake is much much better and nails it, and it also even adds more. When it was announced there was some worry because the dev that did it for Konami normally makes walking sim horror games, mostly known for the Outlast series, which are good in their own way, but don’t have the level of interaction that Konami horror and Capcom horror games are known for. However they’ve done a great job with this one.
@dandyprime53382 ай бұрын
Just a clarification, but the team that made this remake is Bloober Team, famous for their games Layers of Fear and Observer. They have nothing to do with Outlast. The studio that developed Outlast is Red Barrels and has nothing to do with this remake.

The movies (which, yes, both star Sean Bean and also bucks the trend of him dying in everything he's in) are more loosely based on Silent Hill 1 and 3. Silent Hill 2 stands alone in story and characters, and only shares the setting of Silent Hill itself. I don't know if the other games are direct sequels or if they went full anthology, I haven't played any after SH3. I would love an actual remake of 1 and 3, but Im so happy we got 2. The original Resident Evil did in fact receive a fantastic remake back in 2002 on GameCube (it has since been ported several times). The original Silent Hill did receive a pretty interesting reimagining of sorts on Wii called Silent Hill: Shattered Memories back in 2009 (was later ported to PS2 and PSP). The likely reason behind Silent Hill 2 getting the first fully-fledged remake in the series is because it's generally considered the best game in the series, along with being considered one of the greatest survival horror games of all time. Silent Hill 1-4 are all pretty great, in my opinion. The Silent Hill series has an incredible ability to instill the player with an overarching feeling of dread like no other horror game series out there.

They released 2 because it’s a stand alone entry. 3 is a direct sequel to 1 so making two (the most acclaimed) was a smart way to dip their toes in the water with regards to interest. Ironically, while 2 is looked on now as timeless it wasn’t received so well by fans of the original Silent Hill because it changed some things. Players also wanted to know more about where the story was going after 1. Blooper Team nailed this remake and I’m so glad you’re giving this a shot. I hope you’ll love it as much as I did!

Technically Resident Evil was remade for GameCube in the early 2000s, but the original came out in '96. The GameCube remake holds up to this day and I am pretty sure it has both modern and tank controls. I do believe Resident Evil 0 is its own thing and never got a full blown remake as it is graphically comparable to the RE1 remake. It also has modern and tank controls, but it is, of course, a prequel to the first game.

As far as the remastering goes, 2 is hands down the most popular. So I figure that's why it went first. The good news is, is that most of the games have "stand alone" storylines (except for 3 expanding on 1) so you're not missing anything. Although each game does build on the overall lore of how reality operates in and around the town.

Edit: Yes, Silent Hill 2 was one of the inspirations for Shinji Mikami when he made The Evil Within. Edit 2: they remade 2 because it’s the most popular and arguably most important and successful game in the franchise, The reason RE started with Resident Evil 2 and 3 and NOT 1 is cause that’s already been remade and is the greatest remake of all time in my above comment.

Silent Hill 2 was made first because it's the most popular in the series. It's not uncommon to see it declared as the best horror title ever, even beyond the gaming sphere. It also helps that Silent Hill 2 is a standalone game. Part 1 and 3 are connected in story. Bloober Team/Konami might've thought it would be too big of a gamble if they made the first part and it flopped since they'd really need to make two games to finish that story.

Remaking 2 over 1 is because it’s the favorite of many including me. Also there’s no need to play the first one to understand this one because they are separated stories. Good catch noticing the monster design. The early monsters are women in what looks like some sort of bondage outfit, as you said. Pay attention to other monsters you encounter as well. The monster designs are intentional and meaningful. In fact, pay attention to dialogue, notes, and everything else. Especially if it doesn't seem to make much sense. Very little of it is random filler material, which is part of the reason that fans love the game so much. The story is much deeper than it initially appears. Can't wait to see the next video!

So am 5 minutes into the vid and I have not played the remake though I am an avid fan of 2-4 (never had 1) Just had to answer your question about the movies. The first one is pretty much the story of Silent Hill 1 with slight differences (being a stupid hollywood butchering though I still like it) The 2nd movie borrows more from SH3 though its sorta continuing the continuity of the film which the games do as 1 and 3 are connected. Silent Hill 2 is stand alone. It's its own fucking thing. Its a fan favorite because well its dynamic and complex (as all the games (1-4) are) So you dont have to worry really about anything unless they added or changed things in this remake. IDK I don't have a PS5 and I wish I did, but I don't mind watching you play it since you never played the original and I am interested to see what they did with it. Also the movie is based on the first Silent Hill game which was a guy searching for his daughter in Silent Hill. The second game is completely separate story wise. Silent Hill 1-3 are connected though.

Oh, are you in for a treat! Silent Hill was the originator of psychological horror (and the counterpoint to Resident Evil). Also the movies are only LOOSELY based on the games (the first movie was kind of the first game and the second movie was a poor version of the third game).

Like a true modern gamer, completely forgets the D-pad is a thing. Yeah, keep going through inventory to open your map cus you totally missed the on-screen instruction because you were too busy talking. Also, record store, "Just breaking these windows, being a menace" Yeah, and missing an item in one of the cases you broke cus you didn't slow down to check 🙄

I'm currently playing this blind, as well! This game gives me RE2 remake vibes almost 100%! The main character looks like Leon, and you're going through dark corridors and hallways while solving puzzles and using ammo wisely. It's been really fun! I've only died once so far, and it's from a boss fight!

Let's not make remarks about the game until we finish it, because there will be revelations that will explain why James is the way he is, and says what he says!

Yeah Silent Hill! Let's go find your dead wife, James!

Just a note… This game is physically dark as well, and it looks like you’ve increased the brightness in post editing, it could be a little darker, but I understand KZbin makes dark videos even darker so it’s a balance. But I would say it’s a twinge too bright, but maybe it’s just me.
@Cynthetic2 ай бұрын
I do play with the brightness up a bit! Sadly if I played at the suggested darkness level it would be unwatchable to most people on KZbin, had a similar issue with Dead Space, I can try lowering the brightness Ep. 2 and see what the general consensus is, but right now the brightness ensures people can actually see the game.

I understand, but thank you for considering it. I hope I didn’t seem overly nitpicky,.

@@joeb918 Not at all! These videos are for you all to experience so if the general consensus is that it's too bright, I'm happy to lower the brightness. Once a few people have had the chance to watch the video, I might run a channel poll tomorrow to see if the majority would like the brightness lowered for future eps.

18:35 & 36:08. Ok Cyn, these areas. You will find these scattered throughout this remake. Since you never played original Silent Hill 2 you won't understand them. They are parts of original SH2. In this remake they serve as little Easter-egg reminders from the original game. Also 53:05. I get it you doing that is the videogame version of popping all of the bubbles in a sheet of bubble wrap, or why you can't stop eating chips.
