If it pays well enough, John will probably do any gig.

Can't say I really get it... John's a world-class jazz musician with a complete command of his horn, while Cynthia's a pizza-house banjo-strummer who rarely strays from straight chord inversions and the blues scale. What are they doing on the same session? What's the point?

No doubt John is world-class. During the four years since you posted this, hopefully you have heard more of Cynthia's playing. Having been inducted into the National Four-String Banjo Hall for Performance - Contemporary in 2006, she is far from your average pizza-house banjo-strummer. Do they even play banjos in pizza houses these days? In any case, she has had and continues to have an amazing career.

Music is music. I enjoy hearing a good player adapt to the circumstance of the musical style/group he finds himself in.

Agreed. John and Cynthia are worlds apart in terms of musicianship -- if this performance is any indicator.

Not a great singer, sounds like sinus trouble, banjo ok, not great!

Three weeks ago, she won the annual Steve Martin award for being the best banjo player in the world.
