That intro made me think what if they added a NPC monster to the game that has a random chance to spawn and hunts EVERYONE. When it finds you, it tries to get you to turn around (which is its kill condition). It is like Cheap Trick from Jojo too, anyone that looks at your back will find the monster transfered to them (you don't die, so you have a way to escape). Not sure about how it selects a new victim (or first victim) after killing the current one though.
