I have spoken to many Turkish Cypriots and they resist Turkey's attempts to Turkify them ( through the education system and religion etc) they identify as Cypriot first. They are being told that linobambaki do not exist and they are pure blood Turks . Thankfully our compatriots in the north know there history and refuse to accept the lies. If a solution is to come soon it rests with the Turkish Cypriots to ensure the world knows what they really want and to somehow refute Tatars rhetoric that they all want to be separate. Cyprus is our home and we all need to respect that. Bizonal Bicommunal Federation is the way forward. No foreign armies no guarantors and everyone gets 1 vote. In the Turkish Cypriot zone they will get to make certain policies that effect them such as education, infrastructure , development , tourism to a degree etc. Central government will govern foreign policy , defence , power, water supply etc. Settlers will return to Turkey except if they are married to a Cypriot. Greeks to be limited in the North for say 10 years to allow Turkish Cypriots to rebuild economy and settle in. A law should be passed that if it can be proven that anyone is not treated fairly they will be consequences. Together we will be stronger and more resilient. Any EEZ resources will belong to both . ROC has come a long way since the 70's do you TC's Cypriots really think you will be second class citizens. Yes we have a few idiots in the south ( just as you have in the north) but most just want what everyone wants a safe country, nice home, education and health services and to be surrounded by friendly nations. No one speak of enosis anymore. Cyprus has proven it can prosper independently Greece will always be a close friend and hopefully one day so will Turkey .
@StellarionasАй бұрын
@@jonchrys That can't be achieved with a "bizonal bicommunal federation" Anan-type solution. It must be a "single state" solution with everyone having the same rights, and Turkish Cypriots having right to government seats which correspond to their population percentage (20%), no more, no less. By the 1960 Constitution, Turkish Cypriots had 30% rights in Government Seats (ministers, parliament, public officials) and 40% in the Army. Also they had veto to almost every decision. That was not fair for the Greek Cypriots. The Turkish Cypriots did whatever they wanted, and, trust me on this, all Turkish Cypriot politicians wanted Taksim back in 1960.

Cyprus is a country that's semi-occupied by Turkey a NATO member, Cyprus is not a "half country". The free part of Cyprus is governed by Cypriots, and this government is being supported as the legal government of the whole island by Greece, another NATO member. So NATO basically occupies all of Cyprus, one way or another, because of the help of Turkey and Greece, and of course Britain. @nonamenoname2767 Cyprus is a NATO hostage, and you are still seeking whose fault is that we're semi-occupied. There are few aspects of President Christodoulides's speech that I disagree with, but one notable omission stands out. He did not address Britain, one of Cyprus’ guarantors, effectively letting it off the hook for its international responsibilities under the Treaty of Establishment. Furthermore, he failed to highlight Britain's inability to uphold its duties as a Permanent Security Council member and a guarantor state. During the UNSC meeting, the British Foreign Secretary condemned Russia over the conflict in Ukraine, yet remained conspicuously silent on Turkey’s occupation of Cyprus. He also neglected to mention Britain’s annexation of Cypriot land, known as the British Sovereign Base Areas, territories far from the UK, home to Cypriot EU citizens, but with no British inhabitants. As for President Erdogan’s speech, it can only be seen as an own goal and a blatant affront to the United Nations. Standing in the UN, defending the indefensible, his position flies in the face of numerous UN resolutions that condemned Turkey’s invasion, ethnic cleansing, and continued occupation of Cyprus. UNSC Resolution 550, for example, denounces all secessionist actions, including Turkey’s recognition of the Turkish Cypriot leadership, declaring such acts illegal and invalid. Erdogan’s call for international recognition of the occupied territory violates the core principles of the UN. This disregard extends to international maritime law as well. Erdogan’s assertion that Turkey can unilaterally declare an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) to the north and west of Cyprus, and his insistence that the so-called "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" has claims over the entire island, demonstrate the same disrespect for the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). How long will the international community continue to apply double standards, fueling conflicts by failing to uphold the very principles they preach and enshrine in international treaties?

If you can't remember the results, let me remind you. %64.91 Turkish side accepted the solution, %75.83 rejected by Greek side. So please do not blame Turkey for this dispute. He is not the President of Cyprus. He only represents the southern part of the island. Greek side. He only represents them as the Greek nation leader. They forced Turkish Cypriots out of the partnership from the Republic of Cyprus with guns and genocides since 1960. THERE IS ANOTHER STATE IN THE NORTH OF THE ISLAND. TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS. THIS Greek GUY HAS NO LEGITIMATE RIGHT TO REPRESENT AND NO AUTHORITY IN THE NORTH OF CYPRUS. NORTHERN CYPRUS HAS IT'S OWN DEMOCRATIC GOVERNING BODY AND PRESIDENT.
@techno79Ай бұрын
So who runs the North side, Abbas?
@StellarionasАй бұрын
He is the President of Cyprus. By the 1960 Government, that Turkish Cypriots also agreed on, the President of Cyprus is elected ONLY by the Greek Cypriots. So he represents the whole of Cyprus, both free part and occupied part. There is no Greek and Turkish side in Cyprus. There is turkish-occupied part and free part. Native Cypriots were always Hellenics/Greeks in origin. Even "Turkish Cypriots" are not Turks, but almost all of them are descendants of Hellenics of Cyprus who converted to Islam during the Ottoman era, in order to avoid taxes. Before 1974, most of the Turkish Cypriots also knew Greek fluently and spoke the language. The basic difference between "Greek Cypriots" and "Turkish Cypriots" is not ethnicity, but religion. Their blood is the same, according to scientific studies which confirm that "Greek Cypriots" and "Turkish Cypriots" share a common pre-Ottoman paternal ancestry. The Turkish Cypriot politicians wanted Taksim (division of the island) even after 1960 constitution was established. They insisted on separate squads in the Cyprus Army, and not mix-Greek-Cypriot-Turkish-Cypriot squads. They wanted separate municipalities control, one Greek and one Turkish, not mixed. They wanted to sow Taksim in every way possible, because they wanted to control Greek Cypriots. Turkish Cypriots were not forced out of the partnership. They tried to create a separate state in Cyprus during 1963-64 and they failed, so they left the legal government of Cyprus and created the exclaves (ghettos) all over the island. The fanatic members of the Turkish-Cypriot organization TMT persuaded their own people to become refugees by being concentrated in these exclaves, many times by TMT itself wounding or murdering Turkish Cypriots and then blamed the Greek Cypriots in order to create fear and distrust. It is true though that after 1964 and the creation of the exclaves, specific people, who were Greeks and Greek Cypriots, committed atrocious acts against innocent Turkish Cypriots, leading to 600 Turkish Cypriots being missing and ~ 1 000 between 1964-1974. Then the NATO-friendly dictatorship in Greece conducted a coup in 15th July 1974, following secret agreements with Turkey to divide Cyprus 80%-20%. Turkey invaded Cyprus in 20th July 1974 as a result, and because of the atrocious acts of the Turkish soldiers, 6 000 Greek Cypriots were murdered, 1 619 were reported missing, over 900 Greek Cypriot women were raped and 200 000 Greek Cypriots were made refugees. Turkey occupies 37% of Cyprus since 14th August 1974, after breaking the cease-fire agreement, and since then Turkey refuses to live the island. In 1975 Turkey also demanded that all Turkish Cypriots who remained to the free part of Cyprus to be transferred to the occupied part, thus also creating 60 000 Turkish Cypriot refugees and violently changing the population analogy of the island. There is no such thing as second state in Cyprus. There is only Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία/Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti who has sovereignty over the whole of Cyprus. The turkish-occupied part of Cyprus is not a different state, but stolen lands, that belong to Cypriot refugees, who still wait to return to their homelands. There is no such thing as democracy is the occupied Cyprus. The only law that is applied there is the law of the Turkish army. Turkish Cypriots have no real power there, but only some corrupted Turkish Cypriot politicians who lick Turkey's boots and betray their country Cyprus because they have interests with Turkey. Turkish Cypriots are also a minority in the occupied part of Cyprus, as the illegal Turkish settlers that Turkey brings from the mainland are now 4 times more than the indigenous Turkish Cypriot people.
