Hilda Heine, President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, addresses the General Debate of the 79th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 24 - 30 September 2024).
World leaders gather to engage in the annual high-level General Debate under the theme, "Unity and diversity for advancing peace, sustainable development, and human dignity, everywhere and for all." Heads of State and Government and ministers will explore solutions to intertwined global challenges to advance peace, security, and sustainable development.
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.

A sincere apology is the least that we can do for what we did to these Islanders, their land, their people for generations, by the testing of nuclear weapons without their approval, but against them. They knew it wasn't good and safe and did not give permission for it. If what is spent for weapons of war and killing one another was spent for cleaning up this planet and keeping it that way, a global catastrophe could absolutely be averted. We are already in the 6th mass instinction event, it's just that too few are talking about it. Do we really have to wait to be the next species to go extinct before we try to make a change? By then it will be over, it will be too late. Man has polluted the earth, repent and turn from it. "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul in the process?"
