if it joins schengen then it may reduce the time that people from the uk spend in Cyprus, for example lets say that someone comes to Cyprus in Autumn time like many do, then they would not be able to have a two week holiday to Frnace in July or August, or they may just take that holiday and would need to reduce the time spent in Cyprus by two weeks to abide by the 90 days in 180 rule. Economically it could actually be damaging

i dunno what significant benefits schengen would bring to cyprus. like they have no land border- not with other schengen country a least and only access from rest of eu is via plane or ship so therell be always need for id or passport, cant board plane without one. and within eu its already free to move there and seamlessly trade with cyprus regardless of schengen membership or not. add to it the headache with northern cyprus and for me personally theres no obvious schengen benefit( that cyprus doesnt enjoy already or cant be achieved without joining schengen- like information sharing etc) thats worth the effort, like its island for god sake not switzerland so its border wont be ever just made up line on map...
