Why didn't you say anything about EOKA and ENOSIS dear. and mass graves filled with Turkish Cypriots' bodies who killed by Greek militia. You passed that part with only words "life was ongoing in the island " as nothing was happening. Is it fair and honest?

Thank you for your input…The diary was simply written in real time as it unfolded and the film reflects that. Of course the story is much longer and yes, Enosis and Eoka are a major part of the history but I could not include everything/ just what was in front of me at the time as a 13 year old observer.

Great Documentary, great story. I am a Turkish Cypriot, you did not mention WHY did Turkey invaded ? Was it for sport ? Was it because they were bored ? Was it because they had nothing better to do ? You see my family lived in that era as well and you should very well know what was happening to the Turkish population , Burning Turkish villages, killing innocent people on the streets. As you mentioned most people were friends yes, but there is the truth of people who were being killed because they wanted to cleanse the island from impurities ( Turks ) The island should Unite asap but i just cannot believe how every one always forgets what was happening before the invasion and why did it happen. If Turkey would have done this out of thin air world war 3 would have started back then . Again great story great documentary. Kind regards

Greek extremist group EOKA forced Turkish Cypriots out of their homes and killed those who were in their way as well as British and Turkish Cypriots and even some of their own people who were opposed to the idea of unifying the island with Greece. Following a military coup on the island conducted by the leader of the EOKA, Nikos Sampson, Turkey sent a peace mission to aid Turkish Cypriots in the north in 1974. During the Turkish military's operation in the north, 498 Turkish soldiers were killed and about 1,200 people wounded A total of 270 Turkish Cypriot civilians also lost their lives and 1,000 people were wounded.

One thing that sound kind of strange is, the gang part. At 1974 the author was 13. So she was part of the gang at 13, ride in car with her friends, with motorcycles, with her along with other, also Turkish Cypriot friends. Maybe it is my culture, and people I met in USA, but it look a little bit too independent life style for a 13 year old girl. Maybe she lived in a community, where 12-13 year old kids had such a degree of freedom. But it sounds a little strange to me.

I was 18 years old serving aboard a US Navy amphibious war ship, we had all the fire power to stop the invasion including, additional war ships, US Marine infantry, tanks, helicopters, Navy UDT and Marine Force Recon. We were just off the coast for two weeks and we were never ordered to engage. I did not know how bad it was, but we did eventually evacuate hundreds of people. Our administration dropped the ball on this, more over abandoned the Greek people. I have been doing research to find out what happened during the invasion, thank you for putting this on line.

@@planetvix 1. Turkey has never committed genocide in any period of its history, Armenian ancestors cut the belly of pregnant Turkish women with rifle butts and threw their babies against the wall, burned their people alive in the barn, gouged out their eyes, cut their throats, you have committed a great historical mistake by saying that the Turks committed genocide. 2. Turkey did not invade the island, remember that TURKEY is one of the guarantor countries of the island, why don't you mention this in your documentary? why didn't you say that? Also, Greek Cypriots killed Turks, women, children, old and young people before the peace operation. They used the same methods of genocide as their Armenian ancestors did. They killed and murdered the Turks, but you don't talk about it, besides, the murderer called Samson, who declared war even on his own people, waged war on his own people and killed his own people's soldiers and civilians. killed him, turkey used its right of guarantor and prevented the massacres on the island, even turkey brought peace to the Greek people on the island, even prevented the Greeks from killing themselves and those like him are only strong enough for the defenseless old, women and children. 3. Even the Greek constitutional court approved the peace operation of Turkey and found it lawful. I also remind you that. 4. The British rented the island from the ottoman empire and wanted to annex the island unlawfully and unjustly after the 1st world war. The time will come when Greece and Greek Cypriots will attack the Turks again and the rest of the island will pass to its rightful owner. 5. I wish you a more objective perspective on your life. Have a nice day.

What a beautiful, wonderful film.. Every Cypriot regardless of ethnic diversity should watch this film and think .. of what was lost by the Turkish occupation. It just goes to show that every Cypriot, whether you are of Greek, Turkish , Armenian, English has been affected & disadvantaged by the atrocity , which is the Turkish invasion & ongoing occupation of North Cyprus. Turkey should be ashamed of there actions!

A very simplistic view of events which do not take into account Turkey invaded due to a coup instigated by Greece which overthrew a democratically elected government. People also do not realise that Turkish Cypriots were made refugees three times prior to 1974.Many Turkish Cypriots were murdered by Greek Cypriots. Up until 1974 Greek Cypriots (those for or against union with Greece) were busy killing each other, this stiopped when Turkey stepped in. Up until 1974 Turkish Cypriots were living in enclaves and were for many years prior to 1974 being denied basic essentials. Please bear in mind the reasons for Turkey's peace operation and have an objective view which is not one sided.

@faithlessgr
@faithlessgr 5 жыл бұрын
You invaded Cyprus because Greek Cypriot nationalists during the 60s with the backing of the military dictatorship in Greece and armed Greek forces operating on the island at the time were harassing and persecutting the Turkish minority on the island, those events that included, clashes, raids and shootings, became more frequent and more violent at the time of the coup that brought the nationalist Nikos Sampson to power. Following the 1st invasion in July those persecutions peaked and led to mass shootings and atrocities and as negotiatons failed and no solution was to be found, this led to the August invation. That is more or less the Turkish narrative. What that narrative fails to mention is that during that time there were also Turkish forces operating on the island, doing the exact same thing, carrying out raids and shootings and clashing often with the Greeks. Atrocities were carried out by both sides, before, during and after the invasion, to what extend we don't know and probably won't ever find out. But to answer your question that was just the pretext, the actual reason that you invaded Cyprus was because of the island's geostratigical and economical importance.
