I like the idea of keeping the monarchy but changing the transfer of power. In my opinion, if the fight is NOT to the death, the rule should say that a mother cannot challenge her daughter for the throne--to prevent any uprisings from the old queen. The Rainwings should keep their peaceful game way of changing over, but I don't know if the other tribes would accept that. A good plot line for arc four might be Queen Coral going a bit.. Uh.. Mad..? It could be a subplot, but I have many other ideas, such as expanding underground in the idea of tribes.

Coral going mad? Huh, that’s an interesting idea. She is already super overprotective of her daughters, which makes sense as she has lost a lot of them in the past. And Blister definitely was not helping. Maybe if something happens to Anemone, either she dies or gets hurt somehow, she could go overboard and start being like the IceWings, forbidding her daughters and anyone else from going outside of their kingdom.

WoF IS marketed towards kids, after all. Maybe being injured would work, but Anemone and Tsunami would work better.

I had the idea that started with Anemone and Coral battling for the throne over her bond with Tamarin. It would end with Coral being told of the challenge's abolishment, and Coral ultimately realizing how much her actions have had an affect on her daughter and her kingdom. The fanfic is mainly Tsunami and Turtle searching for Coral after she flees the kingdom in guilt and shame.

The bookmarks are gorgeous!! My favorite queen is Glory, although Ruby and Thorn are close contenders. For some1 so young, she really demonstrates incredible management and planning skills. No doubt very useful traits as she rules both the NightWings and RainWings. Speaking of which, she's also mature enough to know when to bury the hatchet. She could've been vengeful to the NightWings after their exodus, but she chose not to, working to help them get back back on their feet despite everything that has been done to her tribe. We can see the fruits of her labour in Talons of Power, where prior to Darkstalker's spell, most of the NightWings had indeed opted for Glory instead of a fellow NightWing as their queen. I think going forward we might start to see the rise of alternative succession systems with the current generation being much closer to their parents than previous ones. I agree that Tsunami and Anemone would hesitate to kill Coral, and I can't see Sunny doing any better in this area either. Qibli for sure wouldn't stand for it. A few fanfics have already explored this idea, and I'm hopeful we might see some versions of it come to the series canon, ranging from Queens that step down and appoint their chosen daughter as their successor (with a transition period), to a revised contest of skills in the vein of what the RainWings have with their royal challenges. I'm also hoping that, with Darkstalker having firmly planted the idea in everyone's heads now, we might start to see kings with real ruling authority now, and not just be figureheads in the governing structure of the tribes. Darkstalker was a terrible choice for a king, but he had the right idea that a tribe shouldn't just be restricted to being ruled by queens.

My favorite queen is Glory, first off because she's an awesome dragon in general, and because of how much she cares about her tribe and is changing them for the better (making them more connected with the other tribes, teaching them how to read, guarding their eggs and dragonets, etc). my second is Queen Ruby, who, while being very firm and regal, also cares a lot about her tribe. And the SkyWings love her, and after living under queen Scarlet's reign, Ruby will be sure that her reign is nothing like her mother's.

Fun fact: tui actually designed the old queens and tribes to be similar to ants, she even hints at this in turtles book when Darkstalker says “we’re dragons not ants” and after this book we start hearing more about how the queens are better and less like ants, this is also why tui made kings useless, and dead. Like ants all males die after mating and the only king we see alive? He dies shortly before we’re introduced to his daughter.

I feel as if primarily the War of Sandwing Succession impacted most queens to act the way they do, but some were simply malicious and took advantage of that time. Despite not viewing the war as a queen, Snowfall had viewed varying parts of trauma, like losing her mother to the Icewing Plague and not preparing herself for the pressure but didn't act upon this rage and managed to assist the refuged Pantalans and break the wall whole, excluding all of the distress and competitive some of her citizens felt. It's refreshing to see Pyrhia ,a continent with kingdoms ran by terrible queens, to be ran by dragons that deserve the title as queen.

Snowfall has created the precedent of toppling traditions that are millenia old, so it's quite possible that she'll follow her mother in aiming to engineer a peaceful transfer of power. I think that some kingdoms will follow that example, and others won't... The Rainforest Kingdom is likely to stick to a variant of the RainWing tradition in its most recent permutation (possibly now adjusted to include NightWing challenges), but I can see a traditional challenge being necessary to satisfy the queen's hold on the SeaWing aristocracy, for instance.

My headcanon is that they never officially stop having the fight to the death challenges but they become less and less common, the tradition slowly becoming lost over time. Instead Queens either die naturally or step down once they physically (or mentally) can no longer rule. Maybe adding a tradition/rule that queens have to have an official list of which heirs get first claim to the throne. On a side note in Glory's case, I have a headcanon/story (not sure what to call it) that she has two daughters, one that is more RainWing and one more NightWing. Then they would each go on to rule their respective tribes separately. (In this story the NightWings also move to that mystery hill area in Pantala)

there's alot of connectedness between the queens now allowing for easier dialog amongst them Glory and Snowfall know each other Thorn has always been diplomatic Ruby seems MUCH more open to talking Moorhen has remained consistently about protecting her mudwings more than anything else and Coral is really the only fossil old style queen left and I do think she'd step down in favour of Tsunami or Anenome both of which will have the same communitive quality (though Tsu slightly outshine her little sister her in having a close friendship with Glory). it is likely the next mudwing queen will be similar to moorhen even if she'd be the first with less networking with the other queens and whether or not Sunny succeeds Thorne is still up in the air but the eye of onyx I trust to choose a good queen to follow up thorn.

I think we all know the bad blood between the IceWing/NightWing tribes just probably isn't going away for some time. As much as we'd want the bad relations to go away, Snowfall straight-up has PTSD from 2 MAJOR EVENTS with NIGHTWINGS (the magic plague sent by Darkstalker that killed her mother & could've killed her entire tribe, and the battle on Jade Mountain), and I wouldn't blame her if she decides to never ally with Glory.

At this point, I'm hoping that the duel to the death transition becomes overturned, and I see no reason why a son shouldn't inherit, especially in a kingdom like the sea kingdom, where both Tsunami and Anemone probably don't want the throne, (Auklet is too young to tell) but I imagine some of Turtle's brothers would be an improvement over their somewhat overbearing and classist mother
