If I had animus magic, I'd lose my soul testing it. It's like the wish spell but vague as hell. For example, can you create something? If so, how big? Can you give an animal intelligence? Can you make illusions? Can you break the laws of physics? You can't bring someone back from the dead, but does the darkstalker method work? How does overwriting spells work? Can you make something to answer every question by wording the spell better than Jerboa III? How many effects can you cram into one spell? How many effects can you get through one simple spell? For example, if I made it so every atom had an extra electron, would the magic alter the world so it didn't implode or would everything just die?

What about bending time? Creating and editing the fabric of dimensions(Like a 4th spacial dimension)? Creating entirely different universes, or a multiverse, where every possible future exists, no matter how radical? I think animus magic really has no limits, only what us mortals can perceive, and that can probably be changed too, like increasing out awareness and intelligence.

I honestly chuckled knowingly when you said you'd enchant a way to water animals faster or make healthy food taste good. Despite living in the north, I have the life values of the south. Honestly, I would just create little shortcut spells to make my life a bit easier and admittedly a few bigger spells. I think I’ve spent enough time at college in discussion-based classes and in my major debating ethics and how good intentions can still lead to failure or backfiring that, paired with my habit of overthinking everything, I’d probably second-guess myself out of making anything other than little, trivial things and I’d be very secretive about it unless there was dire need for something only my magic could do and it had to be done /right now/. It reminds me a lot of an animated video that was discussing the nature of genies (apparently laying down the groundwork to discuss AI). It discussed three types of genies - ones that aren’t very powerful, ones for which all wishes are safe, and ones for which /no/ wishes are safe. They described a computerized mechanical probability manipulator that worked by pulling the probabilities of certain outcomes from unwanted outcomes and dumping them into requested outcomes, essentially (if I’m remembering this right), using math to fulfill your wishes. But walking through a scenario, they showed that even this kind of genie, that does its best to fulfill your wishes, is a completely unsafe genie, because it cannot read into your intentions. It will fulfill your wish as concisely and logically as possible, often choosing pathways you did not see coming because you never considered them as options. They concluded the only genie it would be safe to make a wish to is one to whom you could say “I wish for you to do what I should wish for.” Animus magic is a genie of the third type. No wish is safe. It demands that you consider all possible contingencies and value everything in existence for it to be certain to do something in the way you wanted it to. Even then, who am I to decide what is best for the world? I have many strong opinions, but I am one fallible great ape living on a rock hurtling through space. I do not have the brainpower to absolutely avoid the catastrophic side-effects that could come with this magic, nor the authority to use it on such a grand scale even if I could. I think that’s the real issue with animus magic and “playing god.” Shortcuts around work are a problem too because they strip fulfillment and understanding of others struggles from the caster, making them callous and disconnected and prone to making awful decisions for their own benefit (we see it all the time in real life!). But I think the real problem is that we are not gods. When we try to act like we are, we always miss something, and it always blows up in our faces.

If I had animus magic, I’d just do small things for myself and probably not reveal it until I’m older because I’d rather make a bunch of silly birds plush birds to do my bidding while I sit in a tower and cackle evilishly when all I do is create random that can help or are just fun talisman like: “I enchant these plush crows into living plushies that aid me in my life when I ask and act as companions to myself whenever I am lonely or I’m in trouble! and also they can store fruit or meat in their body and gift it to dragons on the verge of starvation.” (There’d probably end up being an ancient story about plush crows gifting food to starving dragons and nobody can tell if it’s an illusion from hunger or there is actually living plush crows)

That's a tough question. The first(logical+useful) thing that comes to mind is giving myself and others the ability to pick up on others' feelings and emotions. Like, not reading minds and sensing them or anything, but being able to pick up on the smaller things, recognize them, and have an idea on how to react and help. Another thing would be a stronger sense of morals, the ability to be able to look at the world around you, and inside yourself, and see what is harmful, what is helpful, to who, what, and why. These are both things that would require heavy layering. Like, how much will the empathy spell effect people? Will it make it so that everyone has the same amount of empathy? Will it build on it, and amplify it, or will it overwhelm others by making it so that they see every bit of what everyone is feeling? Would it benefit the world, or make it harder to get by? Will it frustrate people, or would they be grateful? Where do I stop, and put the limit, and when does this spell cross my moral boundaries? If I were to use this heightened sense, regardless of my intentions, will it hurt others? Is it really right to know what others are truly feeling, especially when they aren't ready for me to know? This is what you meant when you said it's extremely difficult, and almost always goes into moral territory. It's very interesting to think about, and wonder what would happen. I could go on and on with this, and it's good food for thought.

There’s a really good movie that shows this concept of endless magic with endless opportunities. I forgot what it’s called but this guy waves his had and what ever he’s says happens. On example is when he says “end all senseless war” and suddenly there are people fighting that have no idea why they’re fighting. I find that the thought that has to go into your words or writing balances out animus magic in a way that it’s still endless.

So I think magic and wishes in general (animus magic is basically a form of infinite wish) fall into I think 2 categories, one where it does the thing you intend perfectly. and two where you can’t predict any of the outcomes and therefore need to attempt to think of every outcome possible, which is impossible. All magic of this sort is limited by the amount of thought you put into its specifics before you actually attempt to apply it. You basically need a lawyer or to be a lawyer, or you start with something so simple that it can’t mess up, like a magic pizza creating stone. Now animus magic as shown in the series tends to do the thing intended by the caster of the spell and therefore doesn’t seem to have side effects in terms intent. The problem comes when you are so helplessly vague that it ends up defaulting to some easiest interpretation. It’s not entirely so much like how ai works because it’s actively using the the thought of the caster. I just realized I’m rambling somewhat but whatever. If I was an animus I would try to eliminate meaningless tasks so I could focus on important things. For instance I would make an object that eliminates chores or busywork. Or I would just become an omniscient being and take control of the universe. Just depends on my mood at the time lol Btw The Murtagh book was basically on something, it was so crazy😂

For my old Wings of Fire OC-fic a few years ago, my RainWing asked the animus SeaWing of the group (this story happens a long time after the books) for an earring with three sapphires. The sapphires were enchanted so that, when you crush one in your talon, it teleports you to wherever you wanted to go in your mind. The sapphire would ‘regrow’ for indefinite use, but since there’s only three on the earring, there’s a maximum of three participants, something the RainWing mentions he should’ve considered hehe. In a rewrite I was thinking he found a tiny fragment of Darkstalker’s scroll and managed to write an enchantment on it to turn it back into a fully fledged scroll to use but I’m still deciding that. Another was an animus NightWing who was hiding out with his sister due to his magic, he hid her and himself in an enchanted room whose entrance changes location occasionally, kinda like the Room of Requirement in Harry Potter. An enchantment he gave himself when he was a dragonet discovering his power was to make his footsteps entirely silent, which is where he got his name, Quietclaws. Quietclaws is not afraid of his magic and uses it very liberally, especially to protect his sister and her friends, but he does know it’s unwise to do basically everything with it. He tries to use it in more subtle ways, unlike the animus SeaWing I mentioned, Iris, who is very bold about her magic usage and asked the friend group for literally anything they wanted, including giving the SkyWing of the group a ring that made him firescales at will. Quietclaws distrusts her and tries to stay far away from her, but as Iris has a crush on said SkyWing who happens to be dating Quietclaws’ sister, they come into conflict with each other anyway. Animus magic is fun to play with even if the limitations and logic don’t make much sense. However, since the limits are really only defined by you yourself while writing an OC, it gives a lot of creative breathing room ✨

Animus magic good as talismans, then look icewing gifts. Hunger is cured through a means hungry icewings can reach both weak or old dipping claws to a hole at will. Consider carefully a larger problem, and a solution thats both manageable and controlled for everyone. I’d probably start by casting a spell to preserve my soul/sense of right and wrong, and then I’d cast a spell to tell me how well the first one worked. I’d also want to cast a lot of personality-altering spells on myself, even though those have been shown to not work very well

I would revive everyone who has ever died (other animi would be revived without their powers), make everyone immortal, make pain voluntary, create a being that feels everyone's emotions as their own to grant or deny future spells, create a testing realm everyone can access where realities can be created where their fundamental rules are editable, and finally I would make a universal language translator. Everything else would come by granting suggested spells, editing bugs out of aforementioned spells, and bringing in trusted consultants for their opinions.

5:25 Its not the animus magic thats making me confused, its the drawing. I love the shading, the coloring, and the look in geeneral. Yet as a drawer myself (I draw on paper so I could be wrong), the positioning and pose in general is wrong. For one, the wings. There connected at the bottem, how? Also wheres the rest of hee body? The wkng should he connected to her arm as well, and you should see more of the arm (Maybe, im fine with the arm tbh), and neck seems a little too thin, and the position of the second Wing looks wrong its too bulky and up for my type of drawing. Sorry if I am making anyone feel bad, this is just how I feel about this drawing. Everything else I love, its just the pose that got to me. Also, if I had animis magic, I would make a mind-reading bracelet or earring. Its a very complicated spell, so please tell me if you want to hear it :3

Animus magic is very interesting, and could be used 4 many different things lol. Evil things, good things, personal things, and more. I would probably make a friend, or give myself a pet lol. If anything, have magic/animus power is cool!

I’ve had this idea in my mind for EVER, and I’d like to share it. Magic is amazing- the idea of it, anyways. But how would everyone treat you? Definitely not the same, that’s for sure. To some you’d be an outcast, to others, a danger that they need to Eliminate, and to more, a source of power for them to obtain, control, and use for their own benefit. Of course you could use your power to stop them, but you would still live your whole life alone and always ready to defend yourself. Not a great life, is it? Your power couldn’t be secret, if you used it enough. And wiping their memory- we all know that’s unjust. But, hear me out; one enchantment. Carefully worded, so there’s no backfires, but this enchantment would give you everything you want and more without actually effecting your real life. And enchantment so that when you dream, it feels like you’re in real life. You can touch, taste, hear, smell- but your in a dream. You KNOW you’re in a dream, and you realize this, but in this dream, you have unlimited power. You could visit worlds, create your own life, experience amazing things (personally I would make a replica phyrria and chat with qibli) and in generally do whatever you want for how ever long you want… then you’d wake up. In the enchantment, it would make it so you would not remember the dream that well. You won’t remember, just in case you have a big longing desire to just sleep forever, so you would still live your life, but every night you would return, explore the most amazing of places, do the most incredible things, only to wake up in the morning and think it was a simple dream.

i'd love to say "i would only use it for good" but if i remember correctly-- and it's been a while since i've read the series, i really gotta go back and read it again bc i only even got to like the second or third book of arc 3-- that was the problem lol. no one ever _intended_ to use it for evil

I think i might have a solution to the problem with the dangers of Animus magic doing things that wasn't what i meant like if i say that no one can ever get a disease again and then everyone turned into sand it definitely my solution would to make a spell that goes like this "every spell I make goes the way i intended it subconsciously or consciously" even with a spell like that it probably would need changes or revisions
