I remember going to watch West Brom play Tottenham at the Hawthorns. I was only a kid, about 12. Not long after the game started West Brom got a corner. Cryille went over to get the ball and was met with dozens of bananas thrown at him from the Spurs fans. I didn't understand the significance at the time, but I remember the look on his face. One of defiance and one of determination. The black West Brom players, Brendan Batson, Laurie Cunningham, Cryille and one who never gets a mention Remi Moses, had to put up with these kind of abuse week in and week out. Pioneers they were

Lovely gesture from Alan Shearer. He saw him breaking down and let him say what he wanted to. Then patted him on the leg. Blokes don’t show mutual emotion enough but that was lovely to see.

Yes, of course we should have. Weather caught up with us and there was a fixture pileup. Deserved to win the FA Cup at the same time. Beat Forest, United and Derby only to fall to Ipswich! Regis, Cunningham, Tony Brown, Statham, Batson and of course a young Brian Robson. Then the board did their usual selling job.

Coventry fan here - I remember the mid 80s-early 90s standing on the West Terrace singing his name. My parents were good people and brought me up to respect all colours but big Cyrille reinforced that for me by being my first footballing hero. I know I'm posting here several years after his passing but thanks Cyrille, thanks for the elation, the goals and for making certain that I would always respect other skin colours.

I grew up in the 70's, when racist bigotry was commonplace. His passing has us revisiting those dark days in football history, and his grace in overcoming it with natural ability. Haters hate yet the human spirit will never be broken, so, no matter what this world (Of people) throw at you, believe in yourself, my brothers, and make the world a better place.

I'm not going to jump on any bandwagon, everythings been said already, but I will say this, I was a youngster just at the tail end of Cyrille's career, during the early 90's, he was still playing but the racism in football in this country was almost non existant, players like John Barnes and Ian Wright were household names, but I always knew there was something really special about Cyrille Regis, and that was mainly just from seeing a few clips of him in his glory days and even from a few pictures of him in Match and Shoot magazines ! I could just sense his greatness just by the look of the man and he always remained in my conciousness ever since, of course in the years since I have the full knowledge of exactly how great he was and how much football owes a debt to him due to all he helped to change ! What a great great man who will always be loved and respected ! REST IN PEACE CYRILLE REGIS GOD BLESS YOU !!!

One more footnote: how many black/mixed race players played for ENGLAND in the 2018 world cup...? And WE got to the semi final!!! Could this been achived if cyrille, brendan, laurie, viv and john barnes given into the racial abuse in the 70s and 80s..? from a white middle class west brom fan... thank you!!

I've ended up on this page after reading an article in the Daily Mail Online about Cyrille Regis, who, event though I wasn't a WBA fan, was one of my favourite footballers of the 70s and early 80s. Any way, the woke and wimp lefty DM journalist responsible for the article felt it necessary to ram down our throats and attack our senses by highlighting that Cyrille Regis was "admired for the way he overcame racism." Cyrille Regis may have overcome racism but he was "admired" for his superlative football skills and spectacular finishing in front of goal. That's what he was admired for and that's what he will be remembered for by football fans - his talent as a professional footballer.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, no one will see the Kingdom of God unless he is born again. I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me. For God so loved the world that he give his only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but gain eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through Him. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord and all who call upon the Name of the Lord will be saved. "Bible John 3v3v21, John 14v6

These are the last of the very last days. The writing is on the wall for this world! If you want to be sure of Heaven and avoid the tribulation and the other place down below and if you want to go in the Rapture say the following prayer sincerely from your heart. "Lord Jesus I repent of my sins, forgive me. I forgive all who have offended me. Come into my heart and save me. I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with your holy spirit and baptise me with your holy spirit. Fulfill your plan and purpose in my life. "I recommend you read John's Gospel especially chapter 3.Gbu. Jesus is returning sooner than you think." Today is the day of salvation. "Nobody promised a tomorrow. Gbu

be frank I'm a white man myself and it doesn't even matter, that's immaterial, I remember what players like Cyrille Regis and John Barnes and so many others had to go through just to earn the right to play on a 'level playing field' so to speak ! The first ever black heavyweight champion of the world Jack Johnson went through similar ignorant abuse but endured it and showed the ignorant that he was there to stay and keep winning, Cyrille did the same but it's just a crying shame that England should have had the same problems with racism that had almost died out in America during the time of Muhammad Ali. Jack Johnson's career ended in the 1920's and American sports fans slowly started to be more accepting of black boxers starting with Joe Louis in the 1940's, so for the UK to be having a serious race problem in the 1970's and 1980's in football towards black athletes is just unbeleivable !!! But in this day and age ignorance is still alive and well although thankfully less prevalent and you are a testament to that fact ! If you were not so ignorant then you wouldn't even have to ask what Cyrille acheived, because he acheived something far greater than any England cap or league title, simply put he left his mark on this world and perhaps it saddens you that that mark is far greater than your own but as ever I digress....R.I.P CYRILLE REGIS YOU LEGEND THE LIKE OF WHOM WE WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN !!!
