It'll shoot pretty good for a group or two and then goes off the rails and I've tested WAY too many types of ammo searching for an answer. All shooting off a level concrete bench too in excellent conditions with great glass. Different torque settings on the action screws, you name it. I’ve owned the 452 & 453 rifles in 22LR & .17HMR. I purchased one that absolutely would not shoot anything accurately with anything. My experience with CZ is that if it won’t shoot Wolf MT consistantly well then you have a problem. After eliminating all the variables on my end I sent it back to Cz. They shot it and came to the same conclusion that I did and they sent me a new rifle to replace it. They don’t try to determine what the issue is that causes inaccuracy. Once they verify it they just replace it if it’s within the warranty period. I love CZ products but I am not a blind fanboy. CZ produces a turd from time to time. It happens. Fanboys seem to have their personal masculinity tied to a brand name and are personally insulted if their brand is criticized. Brands like CZ & Glock have some tenaciously loyal customers that cannot handle criticism of their pet.

I like your reviews, but have some reservations about them, and some of the comments. First, the 457 Varmint has the 20.5 inch barrel, correct? Also you seem to compare this model a lot with the Ruger Precision with 18 inch barrel... so I'm wondering how either would compare to the CZ 457 American with the 24.8 inch barrel. Also too, I wonder about the bullet velocity and either barrels "rate of twist" or "Rifling" but I see they are both the same @ 1:16. And the 457 American is the same also. I have a Ruger 10/22 with a Green Mountain bull barrel, chambered for the CCI Stinger ( slightly longer case ) and it shoots pretty much along the lines of what either of these do in your reviews. I would like to know how/why you seem to measure the results differently in this review than in the Ruger Precision Ammo part 1 and 2... i.e. I am looking at Eley Target and seeing only one of the groups over 2.0 yet you indicate AVG 3.47 ... is that a "projection" of the results at 100 yards? If so, why not shoot it at 100 yard? Anyway... it's all good stuff... I am still trying to decide to bu a CZ 457 American or Ruger Precision, very close in price on Davidson's. I'm a Ruger fan but have seen reviews on the CZ, that compare it to the Anschütz .22 LR and .22 Magnum, at a much, much higher price point. Also a tip... check out gunbot.net to see a listing for comparison of ammo available and different ways to select ( i.e. price per round or by brand ) with links to the seller/distributor.

@Phix I finally decided... I purchased the Ruger Precision Rimfire in .22 WMR. I am very pleased. I put my Vortex 6-24x50 FFP scope on it... and I'm getting about a 1 inch group at 200 yards... not a typo... at 200 yards! It shoots the 30 grain "Varmint" ( Hornady/CCI ) better... but does amazing with the very affordable Federal 40 grain FMJ truncated too! Great trigger pull, down to 2.25 lbs ( I believe ) ... I paid plenty for new triggers on my 10/22 and Gunsite Scout to achieve what comes "stock" on the new Precision rifle... With 15 round magazine it was about $385 ( US ) at Davidson's. ( Scope and mount cost more! )

I appreciate a good honest review where you see the whole target. I had two 455 varmints and they shot like your 457. I want to try again with the 457 but it seems through everything I have looked at, its a 50-50 chance on getting one to shoot MOA. There is a reason they won't offer the same guarantee they do on the MTR. The new Anschutz 1761 is getting some good reviews and like you said the Begara and even the Christensen Arms 22 coming out look to be a lot more promising. More bucks for sure but if accuracy is what you want, buy this at your own risk. Anyways, good work on the video. I've watched others of yours. Appreciate you effort,

I know this is a 4 year old video but wanted to chime in. A few guys in our town (very small) started putting rimfire shoots. I thought it would be fun, which it is but I got to watch that I don't go down a rabbit hole with it lol. I have a habit of spiraling out of control with projects. Anyways, I watched a bunch of reviews on 22 rimfires. I didn't have a lot of money to spend so I settled on a Savage Mark II. 275 bucks out the door. 16inch bull barrel. It will shoot sub moa groups all day with SK match and SK Long Range. But sub moa isn't quite good enough. It may do better with some 35 dollar a box ammo but I'm not paying that much. So I came across a Ruger Precision. If I didn't get such a good deal and was easy to get my money back out of it I would of been extremely ticked. It isn't half the gun that the Savage is. Not no where near as accurate and had a lot of issues with failure to feed and eject. So I sold it and ordered the cheapest CZ457 I could find. It's an American suppressor ready with black nylon stock model for $530 It isn't pretty but man it can shoot. It took about 3 boxes of shells for it to start breaking in. By the 4th box it was shooting one hole groups. One group was incredibly small at .285 inches. That's 5 shots at 50 yards. I also shot two flys that were walking around on the target. Best part is that it was the cheaper SK Standard plus ammo. The only issue I've had is failure to fully eject. I gave the bolt a good cleaning and lubricating but haven't had the chance to take it back out to try it. Hopefully that issue will go away. It's also the pencil thin threaded barrel. I figured it would heat up quick and start shooting all over the place but it never really got hot. So I'm hoping I can be a little more competitive since the barrel will drop me down in the standard class from the outlaw class. I can't justify several thousand dollar rifles to enter a competition where you might win 10 bucks a round.

I am three years late, and maybe you don't even have the rifle anymore. I have found that when I get a new rifle it is usually filthy in the bore. You said you ran a bore snake through it 5 times. I would thoroughly clean the barrel. I use JB bore paste with a good CLP or gun oil. This has the effect of lapping the barrel, and with these less expensive rifles the factory does not hand lap them. Looks like you are correctly seasoning the barrel before shooting groups for each ammo. Perhaps shoot indoors at 25 yards with a rest to start. All CZ 457s come with the same action and trigger, so adjust your trigger as low as you can get it because trigger pull weight will affect your accuracy. Perhaps put in a YoDave trigger spring. Maybe take it to a gunsmith and measure headspace. Perhaps shim the barrel to tighten up the chamber a bit. Play around with action screw torque. Lastly, maybe swap out the barrel for an MTR barrel or aftermarket match barrel.
@coreyd14742 жыл бұрын
perhaps i will.
@markeisenhower64224 жыл бұрын
Maybe you shoud bore brush, spray wd 40 to loosen lead flakes inside the bore, ive done that before, and then rolled piece of tissue in the brush, make sure its tight inside the barrel and scrub it ang large lead flakes came out later.

Thanks for the videos. Having watched quite a few CZ 457 Varmint + ammo videos on KZbin, I can only conclude that your test results (and with that, your rifle) are an exception to the rule and most probably not indicative of the precision & accuracy of the CZ 457 as a whole.

@jimbuono24044 жыл бұрын
Any distribution of factory made rifles will follow a bell shaped curve for accuracy. Actually, I probably should say barrel as the rest of the rifle doesn't count for much except the trigger. A few will be great, a few will be awful and the majority will be somewhere in between. When you pay more, like for an Annie, you are getting quality control that weeds out the worst of them. With a $500 rifle you roll the dice.

Eley Target is the second cheapest ammo they make. it's still about $65 for 500 today, in 2022. the best for the CZ 457, I have two Varmint Trainers, is the Eley Tenex and the Eley Match. I consistently shoot sub .35 at 50 yards. I shoot matches and at 50 yards, I hit the 1/4" circle 97% of the time with Match and Tenex. remember also that not all lots are the same. also, you should NEVER put any ammo above 1120fps in a match, or Benz barrel like the higher end CZs. if you think Target is expensive, you'll faint at the Tenex price, $195 for a brick of 500, plus tax, shipping and the $25 fee the FFL dealer charges. to train, I use Eley Club, $80 for a brick

Unfortunately, not all CZ 457's shoot the same. I love 457's, Super short slick action. But ive seen excessive headspace and bad muzzle crowns on too many rifles. And ive seen rifles that are perfectly within spec that just don't shoot well. And likewise, ive seen Sporter barreled 457's that shoot dirt ammo at half an inch all day long. Frankly, it's just the luck of the draw at the end of the day with any mass produced rifle. They just aren't all going to shoot half inch groups at 50 yards with most ammo.

yea i know cz makes quality stuff i shoot with a ton of guys who have 445s/457 and they are tac drivers. things happen no doubt! definitely a good action.

Well that just sucks Corey. While I understand your frustrations, taking a bit more time with it may have improved many of those issues. It took a good while before I learned my 455 to shoot .8 or less consistently. At first, my 457 didn't do so well either. Then I learned that I didn't need to torque action screws when either bedded or pillared. Fixed my issues right away. With and without bi-pod and/or cheap/expensive ammo too. And no, I'm not like the other CZ fanboys who shoot 1/8 groups at a 100 yards. I'm much better at 1/16... Kidding aside, just as you took the time working with your other rifle, maybe the same should have gone into your CZ. Also, your groups weren't bad for a standard non-match barrel. What a lot of these you tube commenters forget to mention is that they likely modified their CZ to the point the only thing CZ is the action. Anyway, I wish you would've had a better experience and got your money back. Good day and good shooting.

thanks for the input! glad to hear a positive comment for once. You're right about people on the internet, everyone's rifle shoots 1/32" at 150 yards and you know nothing about shooting because your rifle doesn't shoot well. not kidding i have to thumb through those comments all day. who knew such negativity around 22 lr videos? Anyway, i sold this and ended up buying a tikka t1x mtr and it is MUCH better. not even close. Action, trigger, accuracy all much better.

You may have a bedding issue, or a barrel issue, maybe your scope is "lose" internally. Something. That rifle should shoot better.

can say for sure its not the scope i had it on other rifles that shot well. hard telling i think its just a lemon.

@@coreyd1474 I've had lemons before also. Seems ironic that a rifle that's known for being very accurate is acting up like this. Maybe give some thought to CZ re barreling it. I bet they would for free. Just a thought.

Ouch . . . . This barrel should have gone to the CZ Auto Supplies Division. It was supposed to be an auto jack handle. Seriously, I've never seen a CZ perform this poorly and I've sold at least one hundred over the years. I sold 25 to a local club which supplies them for Boy Scot Merit Badge qualifications, Woman On Target, and other miscellaneous public shoots. They all still shoot well and I've only had to repair one in ten years. Now, I'm retired and just purchased a 457 for 'shits and grins.' Still in Commiefornia 10 day waiting period.

My 457 Varmint MTR with 20 inch barrel is very accurate. I shoot playcards in half in 1 shot at 30m. Excellent groups at 50m. I can't do better with the Tikka T1X MTR and with the Ruger Precision Rimfire. And it's not ammo sensitive. I got the best results with Eley sports, but even cheap ammo like CCI standard does very well.
@coreyd14745 жыл бұрын
its funny you say that because i sold it to buy a tikka t1x mtr and its MILES ahead of the 457. i can cut playing cards consistently at 100 yards with it easily. glad you're getting good results with yours though!

@@coreyd1474 I'm from Belgium and the ones we get all are with threaded barrels. I didn't tried cutting cards at 50m and you're speaking of 100m? I have a Bushnell Throphy 6-18x40 high contrast scope on it. Maybe I can do it at 50m or more, I should try it.

@@coreyd1474 I've seen your other video now. The Tikka is a very good gun. I shot also with the Tikka T3X RH TAC A1 in .223 and it's a very good and precise rifle, a bit expensive tho with a price of 2400€. The Tikka's, Ruger's and CZ's are in every gunstore here in Belgium. You said you had to order yours by Cabela's? I always need to hold the rifle in my hand before I buy it. But we can't buy firearms on the internet and let them deliver it on our doorstep. To crazy gunlaws here in Belgium. We can buy a .338 lapua magnum and immediately take it home, just like any lever-action, bolt-action, double barrel shotgun no matter which caliber. But a .22lr revolver is with a permit and we have to wait 3 months. A .22lr pistol we also can take immediately home with a Sports Shooter Licence. My Sig p226 LDC in 9mm is also with a permit. Really strange laws here...

@@Morpheus02000 you are right its a bit expensive and the stock it comes with from the factory is trash. I actually didn't order it they happened to have ONE in stock and that was the only one within a few hour drive of my house. Also, we can order them off the internet but they don't ship to your door it has to be shipped to a dealer where you go and then do the background check and all that. LOL thats pretty funny about being able to take home anything but a 22lr pistol. just goes to show you how stupid the people are who make the laws.
