In the early morning light I put some rounds through my little brush gun, the CZ 527 Carbine chambered in 7.62x39mm. This rifle is a ton of fun to shoot. I am working through a number of different brand and bullet weights of ammo, searching for what pairs best. Today I try some Wolf 123 grain hollow points and some Silver Bear 125 grain soft points...

I just found your channel when researching for a light rifle. I'm glad you brought up the .311 vs .308 bore of the 527. At first the larger bore dia.was a deal breaker for me since I'm a reloader but there are quite a few 7.62x39, .311 dia bullets available designed for this round now so it's a nonissue. Great review.

Interesting series with your CZ527. I never seen anyone cut the barrel to 14.5 before. Interesting brush gun. I know this video series has been made a bit while back....It is still interesting to see your next videos in the series and I like the way you keep all your shots in video instead of cutting that out. I keep my mishaps in my videos too. SUBBED.

I'm blaming that accuracy on the pin and weld or the muzzle break. Every other review is 1 1/2 to 1 inch with the occasional sub moa. For accuracy to suffer that bad can't be blamed on a factory gun that assuming met quality control standards. Not only that but I believe they test the guns before selling. My spo1 handgun came with factory accuracy shots. Can't remember if my 527 came with it but I'd bet it did.

My 527 is very accurate with all kinds of ammo. You wrecked it by cutting down the barrel and adding a muzzle break. That was unnecessary.

Thanks for watching Facile Hound. I fell I am getting acceptable accuracy for what I am looking for through some of the different types of ammo I have tried. And I actually enjoy the shortened overall length, making it even more handy, as well as the smooth recoil impulse the muzzle brake provides, and the ability to suppress it. So, overall win for me, but understandably not for everyone.

I bought a CZ-527M in 7.62x39 3 years ago and have tried just about every factory load I could get my hands on. Firing 5 shot groups at 100 yards from a Lead Sled rest, using a 1-3/4-5x Redfield scope, about the best I have seen from it has been a 1-3/16" group using the Federal JSP that comes in the blue box. Second best has been Lapua FMJ, which is usually good for about 1-1/4", and Winchester JSP (silver box) is normally good for 1.5" or a little more. Hornady Zombie Max has been the 4th best at only about 2MOA although it is extremely consistent at that size. It all goes downhill from there regardless of steel vs. brass case or country of origin. I would submit that the reason you are seeing such crappy accuracy is simply because you bought cheap ammo. I know you will read that everybody else's 527 prints 3/4 MOA groups with Wolf ammo all day long, but generally when it comes time for them to post pictures of said groups.... Crickets. Or they are only firing 3 shots that happened to be under an inch and thus they think their rifle "does the MOA." My personal experience is that the cheap steel case ammo out of the 527 does little better than you would expect from it out of an AK or SKS. Probably the best of that bunch is the Golden Tiger if you can find some. It shoots noticeably tighter groups than the other Russian ammo, and while I haven't chronoed any of it, it prints to a point of impact several inches higher as well, so it is a bit hotter. I, too had my barrel threaded, although instead of having it shortened I had the front sight base moved back so I could retain my irons. I didn't note any change in accuracy when I had it done. I haven't had very good results shooting it suppressed, but I think that is specific to the particular can I tried, and AAC's %$^&tarded mounting system. Anyway, a more complete outline of my experiences with the rifle thus far can be found at the following forum thread, if anybody is interested: theguncounter.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24036

Ruger american ranch and CZ 527 should have around 1 moa. When he cut it down to 14.5 inch the group is worse than my 10.5 inch KS-47 pistol which can consistently do under 3 moa with a suppressor(7.5 inch). Something went wrong with this modification man. I'm expecting maybe 2 moa from a 14.5 inch bolt gun.

Quick question, I'm just getting into long range. Bought several boxes of 308 for my howa 1500 build. Do you do anything inbetween different brands? I see soo much stuff out there some say use bore cleaner make sure everything is perfect for the next box, some say you need to do fouling shots, others just go out and shoot.

Mine does better open sights, and I'm nothing special as a shooter. Cutting the barrel seemed to have ruined yours. Taking that rifling off seems to had a negative effect. I'm not sure why you felt a 7.62 needed a muzzle brake? Recoil is light as is. Think about replacing the barrel to get your accuracy back.
@KitBadger

Possibly, it is hard to mount my SureFire can without the brake though... I'm probably going to get it recrowned and see how that does. Thanks for watching Gary!

I took a look at the specs on the rifle. The 7.62 carbine has a twist of 1:9.5 and a 18.5" inch barrel. That gives the bullet about two full spins to stabilize the spin. I wonder if the 7.62 needs that number of turns to give it give it stability. Did you see any evidence of tumbling on your target paper or were the holes neat clean circles? @@KitBadger

I love the way the rifle looks I think you did a great job and it looks pretty boutique. However, why would you shorten the barrel? The gun is already super light and very accurate. You're just making it harder to achieve those groups you're after and reducing the muzzle velocity. It's pretty for sure but man it makes me cringe. Whatever makes you happy though, and to each his own. It's unique and good looking that's for sure!
@KitBadger

Because it was before they offered threaded barrels. So I needed to cut and thread it for a muzzle device, for a suppressor. :)
@andyh3446
@andyh3446 4 жыл бұрын
@@KitBadger you have to cut a barrel down 3.5" to thread it? That seems pretty excessive. You shouldn't have to cut it at all. All your doing is inducing threads on the existing barrel which should be between .5" to 1". Not sure you need to shorten a barrel to thread it. Doesn't make sense.

The 527 should do much better , something is wrong . My AK Sam-7 SF is more accurate than your results and that is confusing. I would think that a fine bolt gun ( and CZ makes really fine quality rifles, we all know that ) should do better . I have read that others have much better results ( I have never fired the 527) . Perhaps the cut down barrel and brake screwed things up?
@KitBadger
@KitBadger 7 жыл бұрын
I think one of the issues is my stock. While it looks beautiful, there are some bedding issues I have been dealing with lately. I finally put some locktite on the screws to keep them from backing out. I talked with CZ and they said I could send it in, but I don't know that I want to part with my rifle for a matter of months... I may end up bedding the action myself.
@jamesjanssen2378

I posted before brain was engaged !. Thinking about it and you are probably right. I have short barrel bolt rifle with flash hider installed, and no change in accuracy ( if crowned properly not a problem) . On the other hand I have never owned a wood stock Bolt gun that didn't benefit from glass bed and BBL float --Win M-70s--Rem's-- Ruger's-- Mausers ect. I bedded a friends Rem 700 7mm mag that shot exactly like your CZ ----it was bedding that was the culprit. With a quality bolt rifle like CZ , there just isnt that much to go wrong , so I believe you are right,,bed it . I stand corrected .
