At first it is not CZ82, such thing does not exist. Only US importers use this name. It is pistole vzor 82 (pi. vz. 82). Just the civillian version was ČZ83, manufactured in three calibers. Vz.82 was exclusively used by army and police units. When police dumped it and replaced by CZ75 BD Compact years ago, some were released for civilian market. Army is also dumping them slowly while replacing them with CZ75 based polymer Phantom. Only active reserves and some backup units are still using vz82. Concerning police, only some last Slovak police units are using this gun today. Firearms were designed here since Austria-Hungary empire. It is not about hating Soviet union. Just other stated under WP had difficulties with own designs and just took AK/Mak/PKM copies. Concerning 9x18M pistols there are polish P64, hungarian FEGs too.. not everybody used PM63 Makarovs. Magazine release is better accessible with index finger, which also prevents soldier from touching the trigger while removing mag. That holster is similar to police holsters (some were also brown or white. But this is definitely not military. Military uses either leather gun + 1 reserve mag holster or camouflaged vz95 holster made out of nylon fabric. Congrats for purchase.. I like mine too.. But unfortunately most of army surplus pieces were sold to US and here in Czech republic it is not very frequent gun on 2nd hand market. It also cost over $300 usualy while in states they were sold under $150 in past :( But there are plenty of CZ83 in 7.65 BR (.320) or 9 BR (.380).. and of course only few CZ83 with 9x18M that are hard to find. btw. .380 and 9x18M mags are identical as far as I know.. i have five of them :D basically the only difference between ČZ83 .380 and Vz.82 is barrel + vz82 orifginal has zero markings on slide.. just serial number and acceptance mark. And second note.. not all CZ83 chambered in 9x18M have polygonal rifling. Some do have classic rifling too and were produced for export mainly. Original vz.82 is always with polygonal hard chromed barrel as it was designed to shoot vz.82 rounds with projectiles made out of compressed steel particles. These are a bit hotter, they fly faster and have more energy. Unfortunately these rounds wear classic rifling fast, so it is not a good idea to shoot them with anything else than vz82 :) Concerning reliability.. well.. this pistol has so many parts... many small parts. And in ugly mud or sand the simple PM63 Makarov is much more reliable.

Well done review. I have two of these. Never had a bit of problem from em. Let me also add that this is one of the most accurate pistols I’ve ever fired.

The magazine release is not a thumb release. It is designed to use the middle finger. The grips are clearly in the way, blocking the thumb. The grips do not block the middle finger allowing the mag to be dropped without moving the position of the firing hand.

Do not buy those aftermarket so called CZ mags they are garbage. Look for real surplus.
